I have a popular Christian name, so growing up in my school there were 5 of us (in a school of like 50 lol). As an adult though I don't meet to many people with my name.
Names are so funny how they seem to come out of nowhere. I have a three year old and almost without fail everytime were at the park there's an Adeline. My daughter has a name that's similar, and now I feel like hers sounds like a knock off lol. I had never heard of Adeline before though and had no idea it was so popular!
I'm Ann, so common but not popular at least as a first name in the late 70s. Most others I've met with my name are quite a bit older. I don't recall another Ann growing up. I often go by Annie. I always thought my name was boring as a kid and wanted something more interesting. I like it now, but for years I sure wished I had one of those popular 80s names.
I had only heard of 2 girls named Courtney until college- then there were 4 in my graduating class! I didn’t hate my name, but sometimes wished to have a more common name!
You can buy yourself an American Girl Courtney doll then you'll always have a name twin.
My mom got DD her for Christmas and the 80’s is so well represented- it all came back to me. She said she was getting it for DD or for me. Haha.
spindle92rebneen That's so weird because I don't think my mom has ever met another Nine-ah and no one pronounces it right on the first try. She just doesn't bother to correct strangers anymore. Supposedly my grandma said it was a common name in the south but my mom now lives in Texas and nope. Grandma was lying.

I know one - but Courtney was her mother's maiden name.
No matter how you spell it, nothing about my name is unique anymore. I did not know anyone with my name when I was little, but then the 90s hit and everyone was naming their baby Caitlin and giving it Ks or that special Y specialness.
No. It's never been in the top 1000. It's one letter off from a much more common name. I get so tired of fools telling me that I have spelled my name wrong or thinking it's made up. One plus, it seems whenever a movie or TV show wants to have a female Russian Spy they have my name, so, there's that.
I’m actually an 80s baby! I’ve always been told Aimee is beloved in French and Amy is Americanized spelling. Maybe that’s not true? Every barista seems to only know Aimee ha.
kittenponypony , okay I can’t figure this one out! Give me a country hint?
rebneen yours is a common name in my (Jewish) community. Also my mom’s name but hers is pronounced Nine-ah.
Whenever people see my name in print, they pronounce it Nine-ah and when I correct them they ALWAYS says "Oh sorry, I know a Nine=ah". Im not doubting there are Nine-ahs in this world (clearly there is) but I have never met one and based on how many times I have heard this, there should be tons of them running around.
I’ve only ever heard it pronounced like that (nine-ah) in The Riches! I didn’t even know what name they were saying until I saw it in IMDB lol

Another ****. I used to read easy in how popular it was; now Zoomers spell it wrong on my lattes (“oh that’s my mom’s best friend’s name, I should know how to spell it” SHUT UP)

I think so. Though it was not until high school that I had another one in my class and I think were the only ones in the school. So, maybe not as common when we were born. Oh, it's Laura.
When I was born in 1982 I believe Laura was quite a popular name. I knew a number of other Laura’s at school. These days it’s unusual to hear of a baby with that name though!

My name is Zara. I love it and have never met another. According to the SSA it’s getting popular now. It’s in the 200s and never broke 1000 until a few years ago.

Hey, nice name! 😀
ha! I just looked it up. It was the #20 the year I was born and now it is #357.

I love this name. The only ones I know are Arabs though, none who were born in the US.

Or the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth
It was on the list for if we had a girl. I love it.
I go by that too. I only use my name in full when I’m writing a formal something or other or just meeting someone for the 1st time. Otherwise, it’s shortened.
Fairly. I think there was one other girl at my high school (maybe 1000 students?) with my name, but she spelled it slightly differently. It’s not UNusual by any means, but it’s not Jennifer, Lauren, or Lindsay either. I was born in the early 80s so there were always multiples of those just in my class.
Another Jennifer here. Being "a Jennifer" sometimes feels more like being part of a team or group - like being "a brunette" or "an avid cyclist" - than having a name of one's own.
I am in the <poof> group. No recollection of meeting another until college, then I graduate and bam!, kids and pets everywhere with my name. It also sounds like "daddy" so I ignore everyone that says my name in a group setting.
I tell restaurants that my name is Amy. It is just easier. Maybe I will try some more uncommon names just for fun, or join the jennifer/stephanie crowd. :-)
I have a very common name (you see it on the internet all the time now when racism is called out) but with a very uncommon spelling. I've met only two other people with the same spelling (though I've seen it several times elsewhere) and they both happened to be within two weeks of each other, about thirty-five years ago.

It’s Lauren.
If for some reason you’re stalking the people in this thread, good luck trying to find the right Lauren in her early 30’s because hoo boy there are so many of us.
I have a very common name in that versions of it show up in every European language and some Asian languages (and perhaps other language groups). There have been famous and ordinary people with it for hundreds of years. But in practice, you don’t actually run into that many of us. I’m usually the only one in my class. For example, in the database for the kids school which has about thirty thousand names (all students, teachers, parents of the district) there are seven of us.
