I made an orange angel food cake trying to be festive and it was a disaster. I think maybe it’s the weather? I did the upside down cooling thing and it slid out and seems overly moist. Now I have 12 yolks to deal with from this failed experiment too. Giant pumpkin omelette?
The concrete people left rubble under the wooden risers for the new steps which seems a little odd. Shouldn’t they have taken that away already?
If you have an ice cream maker, I always make the NYT master ice cream recipe when i make angel food cake. It uses 6 egg yolks for one batch.
That’s a good idea too! I do have an ice cream maker!
My cousin and I were part of a live-action Rocky Horror Picture Show all through college and we're watching it in an Amazon Watch Party right now. I forgot what a freak I used to be, lol.
Child has been baptized, family has been given food and drink, and now we're just going to become one with the couch for as long as possible.
In related news, it's HOT here, even though it's just barely spring. We get full sun all afternoon because we face west, so the past 3 nights have been an overheated bedtime disaster even with open windows and a fan. We're going to look at a portable AC unit, but I'm already stressing about how hot he gets in his infant carseat/stroller - it was nice and cozy in winter, but how do people take their kids on walks on hot days? Even in just a short sleeved onesie he gets sweaty!
I bought a clip on/battery operated stroller fan for the really hot days. Otherwise I just dress him lightly and keep the sun off him if we’re out during the hottest part of the day.

My friends and I used to take the subway to go to the midnight showing of this in the Village in NYC. I was 16!
We won’t be home tomorrow night and I’m debating whether we should put out a bowl of candy or not. I don’t think we’ve ever not been home on Halloween. Our neighborhood gets a decent number of trick or treaters, but we also have plenty of houses that don’t participate. 🤔

I’ve done the one in NYC, Chicago, and LA. So fun! Although I wish I had done the virgin games at one of the big ones not the crappy one I did!
Happy Halloween! Got home from vacation yesterday, and missing my pup hit hard in a lot of small ways.
I bought my girlchild 2 new Halloween costumes and got a free one from a Buy Nothing group. She loves playing dress-up so I figured she'll pick whichever for actual halloween and just play in the rest. Yesterday, girly announces that she will be wearing her brother's old spiderman costume. LOL. She burst in my bedroom this morning already wearing the mask and yelling "HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEEN!" She's an absolute nut.
DH came to bed at some point last night, which he does pretty rarely. I woke up around 7 when DS2 did and now I can’t go back to sleep because H does this thing where he exhales really loudly and I find it disruptive. It’s fine, I guess. I have to get up soon anyway to pick up DS1 from MIL and take him to a friend’s house. But I’m tired.
Today I’m going to get that pick up/drop off done, come home and do a rowing workout, prep food and lunches for the week, then spend the afternoon watching tv and doing laundry. I think the weather isn’t supposed to be great for trick or treating tonight, so I’m glad the boys got to do trunk or treat on Friday.
So apparently my family wants to participate in our neighborhoods Halloween activities, which is cool with me. I just didn't expect that from them lol. So our neighborhood does a kid's parade and then a potluck and then the kids get set loose for trick or treating. This year with covid this is the request for the potluck...please help me figure out what I can grab for this. My brain is blank.
"This year please bring items that are individually wrapped, covered, or otherwise easy to grab and go. " "If participating, please bring a healthy main course, side course and/or drinks to share. If you choose to contribute drinks, please only single serve cans or bottles."
I can just grab some drinks but I'd prefer to bring something more substantial.
I found out my Dad has prostate cancer yesterday. My parents have known since AUGUST and just told me and my sisters. Why do parents do that??!?
He’s doing radiation and should be just fine. I’ve been kind of down in dumps all day bc of all of it though.
My parents do stuff like this all the time. My mom is on her 4th bout of cancer, all have been different, this time she makes it sound like it's just this one small spot in her lung but they'll do chemo and she's got this great prognosis. Then she has an episode of pain and shortness of breath before her chemo gets started and her doctor sends her for a CT scan. She sends me a copy of the CT scan results...um this is not one little spot and there is no way her prognosis is good. It was like a punch in the gut to read those results. Parents.
Dh spent 6 hours and $1200 at the emergency vet last night with our 16 year old shih tzu with no definitive results. She started a constant dry cough yesterday in early evening but it wouldn’t let up. One of the potential diagnoses is lung cancer so DH is very upset.
I know she’s old but we got her when we were engaged and she adores DH. She doesn’t give a crap about the rest of us. Dh said everyone at the e-vet was fawning all over her; despite being old and half blind, she is still super spunky and full of personality with a strong streak of honey badger in her.
We’d appreciate good thoughts for Lola. We just put one of our other dogs down a month ago.
I am going to a birthday party for a 4 year old from 1-3 today and then home for the Patriots game.
I woke up too late to run this morning, so I may go after the game even though it will be dark out. TOT will be mostly over by then so I don't anticipate a lot of people being out if I do run.
We skipped Halloween last year, and I keep the decorations that I've made that are more prop like in my studio, so I forgot that we took our bins with Halloween decorations to the storage unit after Halloween 2 yrs ago.
We don't normally decorate until the day of anyway, but it was a bit of a surprise to both of us when we couldn't find our inflatable Jack Skellington this morning. If we had known, we could have picked him up on our way home from Trader Joe's this morning...we drove right past the place.
DH went to find him, and I caught him just in time to have him look for a few more of our standard decor. We're scaling back a bit from our usual this year, but we were missing some important pieces.
I'm glad we didn't decorate earlier. Apparently there has been a rash of stolen inflatables in our area. I would be pretty upset to lose Jack...we've used him in our decor almost every year for at least 12 years. Someone had a brand new, $200 Oogie Boogie stolen.
Our neighbor across the street usually does a pretty elaborate set up, and people come all the way down our very dark, dead end street to see how the two of us have decorated, but they are in the middle of a whole house renovation, and are really scaling back this year as well.
It will be interesting to see if people make it down this far tonight.
lostrn the hotdog in foil was a good idea, sloppy joes in foil, or Hawaiian buns made into deli sandwiches. Cheese sticks, bags of sliced apples, individual bags of Pirates Booty. Not sure how healthy they want.

Lol, I’d hit up Taco Bell can get a party box of tacos and/or burritos and call it good.

I don't want to upset you further, but just want to tell you to prepare yourselves for that to be the diagnosis. My best guy passed from lung cancer and it started the same way. They initially diagnosed kennel cough. Antibiotics didn't help. They then diagnosed pneumonia. It got worse and they discovered the cancer. It was too advanced for chemo to be effective.
It's been 7 years since we lost him and I don't think I'll ever get over it. Lots of hugs and well wishes. I hope it's something simple and treatable!
I don’t know who needs to hear this: your friends and family are happy to see you as you actually look. You don’t have to blur and filter your sm photos to the point everything is a shiny smudge. We know you aren’t a CGI character.

bag of cuties. healthy and naturally single serving packaged.
Turns out that if you wait till Halloween to buy candy, you are SOL. After going to 4 stores today, we finally just bought a bunch of single serve chip bags and will give those out instead.

next time check out the nonhallpween candy aisle at target - Andes mints and individually wrapped mint lifesavers usually last longer than other options. Cutie oranges. Dollar store pixy Stix.
I always stock up early, then panic and overbuy at the last minute.

PSA: If anyone is looking for a rowing machine, the ProForm I got at Costco for $400 is really nice and the iFit app has some really great outdoor classes that are very motivating.
