We have a family Halloween party at 4 and then an adult party for h and I later tonight. Should be lots of fun! And the weather is beautiful, after a wash out yesterday.

My big kid is making her pine derby car for the Girl Scout Grand Prix today. She has her plans all drawn and is ready for some power tools. Her dad and poppy are her assistants (and there to make sure she doesn’t lose a hand). She’s going to call it, “Speed Buster,” and is planning to weigh down the front with pennies.
I hope she puts in a good showing at the race, but I’m sure she’s going to come up against cars where helper adults built the whole thing. Major eye roll.
No real plans this weekend, just watching sports today. I am at the point after surgery (12 days out) where I am just over it and want to do all the things, but still need to take it easy. My belly button was hurting quite a bit yesterday evening because I think I overdid it. It was better already by this morning, but the more I get up and down and bend over, the more I feel it. So I need to be careful. What I really want to do is clean up the yard (dead flowers), go for a walk around the lake or hike, and do a ton of laundry. I may actually do the walk later and/or tomorrow - we'll see how I feel. The weather is nice today so I would like to be outdoors a bit and enjoy it!
I also have a ton of reading to do for school so I guess I need to do that.
Our school is having a Halloween carnival this afternoon so we will go over for that. Then the older kid will go to a party at a friend's house and the rest of us will go to a party at another friend's house.
Tomorrow we will watch football then go to the trunk or treat in school town if the weather is ok. I'm hoping it is because ds will be pretty disappointed if he can't go and there is no where to TOT in the mountains.
I am currently trying to meal plan for next week so I can hit the grocery store if I need to while we are in school town this weekend, but I am tired of the same damn food all the time and tired of picky eaters.

I hope she does well and has fun doing it! My son was in cub scouts and they started the pinewood derby in 1st grade and it's only for the cubs. I was surprised when we got it and saw it's just a block of wood to start with. So they start participating when they can't possibly build it themselves and stop when they get to an age they can actually take it on primarily by themselves. So many things are so backwards.
It’s 10:30 and I just woke up. I still feel so sleepy. I think I can hear DH making me coffee, which would be most welcome.
The boys had a trunk or treat event last night and were so cute in their costumes. DS1 went as Princess Peach and his wig legit matches his actual hair color. It’s like looking at the daughter I’ll never have. Lol
We don’t really have any plans this weekend. I need to make a list of things to get done. I will be out of town next week for work, so I need to make sure everything is ready to go Sunday before I leave Monday morning.

My kids are grown, I’m retired, and I have all the time in the world. Why tf did I put off shopping for a dinner party I’m having tomorrow until Saturday afternoon?
Today is my first birthday without my mom. Its not as happy a day as usual but not as crushing as I expected. I was going to go to yoga but decided to stay in bed with my too big too fast puppy to watch Drag Race. DH is going to get me ahi tuna avocado toast before I go for a walk around the lake with a friend.

Yes, I was SHOCKED when I opened the box to reveal…not a car.
She’s in 3rd, so can run the sander/do hand sanding, make her plans, glue weights on, paint, etc. The only thing she can’t do is cut. But yeah, it’s hard to be like, “The kid has to make it,” when they can’t do the most integral part. I’m sure that’s how adults end up taking over - well if they can’t cut it, I’ll just sand it and shape it and…myself.
I made an orange angel food cake trying to be festive and it was a disaster. I think maybe it’s the weather? I did the upside down cooling thing and it slid out and seems overly moist. Now I have 12 yolks to deal with from this failed experiment too. Giant pumpkin omelette?
The concrete people left rubble under the wooden risers for the new steps which seems a little odd. Shouldn’t they have taken that away already?
We’re cleaning up the house and getting ready for a Halloween party this evening. I put everything off today that I was going to do yesterday because I felt so terrible after my booster. Luckily everyone pitched in and I can probably even take a nap! Both boys have late afternoon football games so we need to have pretty much everything done by 4:00. I slept so much yesterday. Two 2-hour naps and then 10 hours last night. That shot wiped me out, I’m glad it’s done.
Happy birthday namasteak! I think the firsts of everything after losing my mom were some of the hardest days. Enjoy your day and do everything that makes you smile!

If you have an ice cream maker, I always make the NYT master ice cream recipe when i make angel food cake. It uses 6 egg yolks for one batch.
DD1 is going to a birthday sleepover tonight and DD2 is getting picked up by XH to go TOTing for Beggar’s Night in his neighborhood. I plan to fall asleep to some scary movies. I’ll probably pick them both up sometime between my OTF class in the morning and football. Go Bills!
I had book club this morning, which is good, but we got the sad news that our oldest member passed away last weekend (she was in her 90s). She had led a very long and interesting life, but her and her daughter hadn't been participating on Zoom, so I haven't seen either of them since before the pandemic.
I'm also getting a migraine. I'd hoped I'd ward it off with caffeine and tylenol, but I'm going to have to bust out the triptan, which sucks because it makes me sleepy, and that's going to put a damper on my planned Halloween Pelostack.

Child has been baptized, family has been given food and drink, and now we're just going to become one with the couch for as long as possible.
In related news, it's HOT here, even though it's just barely spring. We get full sun all afternoon because we face west, so the past 3 nights have been an overheated bedtime disaster even with open windows and a fan. We're going to look at a portable AC unit, but I'm already stressing about how hot he gets in his infant carseat/stroller - it was nice and cozy in winter, but how do people take their kids on walks on hot days? Even in just a short sleeved onesie he gets sweaty!

I’m sorry @dcn My parents are the same way or were until my mom had a major health scare over the summer that possibly could have been avoided if they had been open with my sisters and me and not waited as long as they did to address it. It scared them and we had a major talk with them about the whole thing. I hate that they are getting older. I know they want to protect us, but we’ve turned that corner where now it’s our turn to help take care of and protect them.
I found out my Dad has prostate cancer yesterday. My parents have known since AUGUST and just told me and my sisters. Why do parents do that??!?
He’s doing radiation and should be just fine. I’ve been kind of down in dumps all day bc of all of it though.
My dad did something similar. I lived overseas for 19 months and he picked me up from the airport and literally while we were still in the airport said "oh yeah I have prostate cancer, granddad has been taking me to appointments when I need someone to drive me, but since you’ll be living with me for the next few months, can you drive me to my appointment tomorrow. Thankfully they’re not talking doom and gloom and this isn’t going to kill me."
I was like uhhh ok, sure. Lol. Anyway, I don’t tell my parents my health stuff either so I guess I get it. But hopefully your dad’s treatment goes well! My dad has been doing fine for several years now.
