First, DH and I both agree the girl who plays Miranda looks amazing!
Secondly, while it does follow a predictable line of what these women would be like in their 50s - the teenage relationship issues and the podcast seemed a bit forced. I guess the writers took the bit from "This Is Us" about the crock-pot, and now Pelaton is the culprit...wonder if these companies pay for these parts in the shows.
Also I'm not sure where the characters will end up going in NYC post-pandemic, it might have behooved the writers to continue the NYC as if the pandemic didn't occur or not for a while into the show. The show was a way to escape into a world of amazing lounges and experiences that a average person wouldn't have - I don't want to watch a show about the life of NYC now we see it everyday... I also don't want to see Carrie with her hand sanitizer or the awkward conversations of if they are shaking their hands or not. Also WTF was with Carrie watching Big suffering and not calling 911? Again, just awful decisions made.
First episode in, wont watch another...
Peloton says they knew the show featured a Peloton bike and that one of their real instructors (Jess King) was playing the character of instructor Allegra, they didn't know of the plot twist at all. Their stock dipped after the release!

Ohhhhhhh. See, I thought Peloton PAID for that and thought that was an odd move on their part.
One thing that was weird, these women are only in their 50's. They were talking like they were too old to know about podcasts and Instagram, I found that odd?

I guess it really depends....I'm 46 and I'd say about half the women I know my age aren't really into anything much newer than FB, so I think it could be feasible that women in their 50's might be a little resistant or uninterested in it. Carrie herself obviously needs those platforms to stay relevant but I can see how someone like Miranda might not have it on her radar. I only recently started giving podcasts a chance myself.
But "He had over 1000 rides! Cycling is excellent for your health." I felt like the writers knew Peloton would be pissed and were trying to head it off with that very unnecessary Miranda-Steve convo.
I watched if for no other reason that Sara Ramirez is obscenely hot. Their scenes were not remotely worth it. It was worse than I could have imagined. And depressing. And I cringed so hard it physically hurt.
I’m not planning to watch. I heard how the got rid of Samantha and I think it’s lame!!
Spoil it for me.
Carrie drops her as a publicist due to lack of funds and just not needing one anymore. Samantha is pissed and moves to London and doesn’t speak the ladies anymore.
I was thinking about it this morning and decided that I don't mind that Big died. I mean, it's sad and it was not what I was expecting the show to be about, but it is also a real part of life and relationships and something that hasn't really been explored in depth on the show. I think it makes sense as a character arc.
I think this reboot so far is a big improvement over the terrible movies. But it was a little awkward and manufactured, which I expected. And it is interesting that the writers have clearly heard the criticisms of the cast being too non-diverse and tried to remedy that - although sort of in a weird way? Like, each woman now seems to have a WOC sidekick? ("It's the black Charlotte!") I don't know what a better approach would have been, but it doesn't feel very authentic - but then again, I guess not much about this show ever did.

This is what struck me as well.
I also don't like where they went with Stanford's character development. I have no idea how they will write him off given that he passed away during filming, but he was always such a bright spot and he's really unpleasant.

I watched 😭😭😭
I’m not crazy about what they did to Samantha but I did see it coming as I know irl KC and SJP DO NOT get along … tucking her away in London leaves the door open for a return
Charlotte has stayed the same … still always worried what people think about her 😫 I love the dog is Richard Burton 😂 and I felt a sense of relief that the Rose at their house is like the Rose at mine ❤️
Miranda drove me nuts w her constant foot in mouth gaffes. Brady and his gf .. that would have NEVER flown at my house
Carrie … she was just plain uncomfortable, she’s trying but oy … never pegged her to be the prude she’s become
Big … why omg why !! Nooooo he’s was to be Carrie’s happily ever after and you do THIS to him ! It hit close to home … J’s cancer can come back at any time and do god knows what to him.
Anthony and Stanford just seemed to be so insufferable … I wanted them to go away.
Carrie didn't hire Samantha as her publicist anymore because "the book business changed" so Samantha wouldn't return Carrie's texts and she moved to London.
eta: None of the ladies talk to her any longer. Samantha was basically "fuck off" to all of them.

i
I thought it was weird how, when at the recital, Stanford was there and then he was gone and explained as being up on the balcony to watch. I googled it and it seems he was sick and no one on the show knew until he couldn’t do the show anymore/right before he passed. I wonder if they are going to sort of set it up that him and Anthony divorced and he left. I can not imagine them having two major deaths in one show.

Why isn't the show exploring sex in middle age? I read a few reviews and reviewers have seen 4 episodes. The original show was about sex, relationships and female friendships in NYC for women in their late 20's- early 40s.

They should lean into wen and sex in their 50s
Oh, I was hoping that's where they were going with this. That's part of why I loved the idea of this reboot.

I think what is most irritating to me is the same thing that irritated me about the movies- they've turned them into charicatures of themselves. Everything about Miranda/Steve/Charlotte/Stanford is so overexaggerated and doesn't feel authentic.

i think this is part of why they killed Big off. If the show is just about 3 happily married women, 2 with kids, there is a limit to what they can explore. By Carrie being single, now they have a woman in her 50s navigating dating again and “new” sex. And i think that will make her role as podcaster more interesting too.

I think they will explore sex and middle age. At the end of episode 2 they showed a preview of the season and Charlotte was talking about giving Harry a blow job. And I kind of got the vibe that Miranda may explore her sexuality more. There was a definite spark between Miranda and Che Diaz. Plus Carrie being single now, they have too, right?

Don’t like how they handled Samantha’s absence.
Each review I read (I read around 4-5) everyone got a 4 show screener, and a big complaint was that it's...dry (lol) in the first 1/2 of the season. There are small hints at sex but apparently no, not a lot 🤷♀️.
I was thinking more about this today and just wanted to respond to your post because I had the same thought, that Carrie moving through grief and back into dating and sex as a widow makes her more interesting than the "white cis hetero" host on her podcast...it adds in concepts of grief, ageism and sex in a gendered world. Maybe not what Che asked for but I feel she'd take it!
John Corbett is definitely coming back as Aiden too. So help me if he and Carrie start up again I will lose my fucking mind. Surely the writers would never, right?
I was not prepared for this. I thought it was forced and cringey and then they killed Big and now I'm invested, so I guess they knew what they were doing. Miranda is a hot mess and Charlotte and Stanford are just terrible people now? I'm so confused. Were they always awful? I haven't watched SATC in FOREVER.

So I was super into this show back in the day, but I can’t remember why aiden was so horrible. I have always thought John Corbett was super hot. I know this is a nonsensical comment lol.
So stupid. Like, if he choked on food would everyone be freaking out that it made FOOD look bad? Peleton being weird is making it worse!
But it’s kind of weird it’s *specifically* a peloton. He could have been on any old treadmill, or something.
But bougie brand names are the show’s thing. Carrie could wear any fancy shoes, but we all know her penchant is for Manolos and Jimmy Choos. She could have just gotten a designer wedding outfit, but we all know it was Vivienne Westwood…and so forth, and so on. Of course it was a Peloton.

Well he wasn’t, Carrie was horrible to him. Cheated on him with Big, wouldn’t wear his engagement ring etc. Then there was the second movie where they bumped into each other when she was on vacation (both married) and had a flirtation and kissed I think.
For me it’s more of the “there are more than 2 men in the world” thing. Like don’t bring an ex back into it because she’s widowed, have her move onto something/someone new. He was always second to Big. But I get why they might go in the Aiden direction.

Nah it was Carrie who was terrible. Aiden was adorable and she treated him like shit. It made me crazy that she had this perfect guy who was everything that Big wasn't, yet she kept going back to that toxic dumpster fire of a relationship over and over.
