Did anyone watch And Just Like That last night? I was hoping for some terrible but fun light hearted reminiscing moments… spoilers below… X X X X X X X X
WTF. Those first two episodes were so, so depressing. The first episode was a bit awkward and cringed, but it felt like they were settling into something fun for a minute and then boom. Big dies and it’s all death and despair and ughhhhh. I watched it before bed and just felt totally bummed out for a long time, which was not what I thought I was getting into. Do I even keep watching? I’m not sure I’m up for a season of mourning.
I don't want to spoil, but I'm going to say that I already know a lot of people are going to say they hate it. I actually think it was fine. It's keeping in line with the show and subsequent movies that followed. I always thought of SATC as kind of light-hearted and campy, with some serious stuff worked in. I feel like this follows all of that. I've also never been super into the franchise, but always ended up watching everything eventually. This is the first time I've watched anything SATC related in real time and I'm surprised by the hate I'm reading. I thought it was going to be terrible, but it was okay. I do miss Samantha, she was my favorite.
vamoose , Did you watch the trailer at the end of Ep 2? I feel like they killed off Big in the beginning to make way for a much more light-hearted rest of the season.

I watched the first two episodes last night and cried through most of the second one (I had a little buzz which I'm sure contributed!). Overall I like it so far, I like things that make me feel even if it's sadness.
The first movie hit me emotionally because of some things I was going through at that time and I've watched it a million times (second movie was garbage). So it was little things that got me last night, like in the second episode Carrie was standing in their closet crying and the same music was playing as when Big "proposed" with the shoe in the closet at the end of the movie. Then I cried when she found that Samantha sent the flower arrangment.
But OMG how pissed is Peloton?!
ETA: at the end of the first episode I was like "WHY ISN'T SHE DOING CHEST COMPRESSIONS ON HIM?!" Guess my CPR/First Aid certifications stuck with me.
I wanted and was expecting something fun and light hearted. I feel like we have had enough room and gloom in the past couple of years. At least save the downer death tragedy for later in the season.
“I’m sure ‘SATC’ fans, like me, are saddened by the news that Mr. Big dies of a heart attack,” said Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, a preventative cardiologist and member of Peloton’s health and wellness advisory council, in a statement to The Times. “Mr. Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle — including cocktails, cigars, and big steaks — and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in Season 6. These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death. Riding his Peloton Bike may have even helped delay his cardiac event.”

I’m not planning to watch. I heard how the got rid of Samantha and I think it’s lame!!
I found that scene very awkward. It felt a little too close to their real life rift. The reference to Samantha’s ego seemed like a dig. I don’t know. It made me uncomfortable!

Do we know exactly what happened between them? Al I know is that Kim Catrall is PISSED and hates SJP.

I think she wanted as much money as SJP was getting and felt disrespected.

I am literally watching episode one during lunch and came here to see if others had watched it. The writing is just terrible. I can’t take much more of this. Lol

YES! WTF? Or like, call 911.
OMG in my head I was yelling ‘call 911 lady!’
I liked it and agree with what you said in an earlier post. Also, I was never a huge fan of Big. Or Aiden for that matter.
I was laughing at the ridiculous inappropriateness of that blonde lady (can’t remember her name but her husband was the yeller she left and Carry convinced to get back together with) when she approached Carry at Big’s funeral.
I am a little WTF to Miranda’s son and Steve acting as if he’s 90.

I know, I was sitting there thinking no goddamn way is my teenager going to be allowed to have loud sex in my home and leave used condoms on the floor. Please at least be discreet!

And he was still slightly conscious when she got home! It's not like she found him and all this time had gone by. I'd be pumping away at his chest with 911 on speaker!

Right!!! She's like "go into the light, Big!"
I'm sad, his character wasn't even 60. It feels a little like the Bridget Jones books. Gotta kill off the husband to make way for all of the single sex she's going to have! I think she's going to bone that cute guy that works on the podcast. I noticed him Ep 1 and he is cuuuuuuuute.

When they said what happened I thought mmmm....I really don't think that's how Samantha Jones would handle that. She's got thicker skin than that and wouldn't let business end a close friendship.

I was so sad too. When I went to bed I gave H a big hug even thought he was already asleep. I'm not sure I can handle a full season of "How Carrie got her Widowed Middle-Aged Groove Back" lol

Yes I read that and thought to myself that I can't believe a medical doctor had to weigh in on what lead to the death of a fictional character!
First, DH and I both agree the girl who plays Miranda looks amazing!
Secondly, while it does follow a predictable line of what these women would be like in their 50s - the teenage relationship issues and the podcast seemed a bit forced. I guess the writers took the bit from "This Is Us" about the crock-pot, and now Pelaton is the culprit...wonder if these companies pay for these parts in the shows.
Also I'm not sure where the characters will end up going in NYC post-pandemic, it might have behooved the writers to continue the NYC as if the pandemic didn't occur or not for a while into the show. The show was a way to escape into a world of amazing lounges and experiences that a average person wouldn't have - I don't want to watch a show about the life of NYC now we see it everyday... I also don't want to see Carrie with her hand sanitizer or the awkward conversations of if they are shaking their hands or not. Also WTF was with Carrie watching Big suffering and not calling 911? Again, just awful decisions made.
I’m not planning to watch. I heard how the got rid of Samantha and I think it’s lame!!
Spoil it for me.
Carrie didn't hire Samantha as her publicist anymore because "the book business changed" so Samantha wouldn't return Carrie's texts and she moved to London.
eta: None of the ladies talk to her any longer. Samantha was basically "fuck off" to all of them.
