Acting was good, I wanted to punch Meryl Streep in the face.
But I couldn’t figure out if it was supposed to be funny or dramatic. I didn’t think it was funny. But it didn’t Armageddon level of drama, “what’s going to happen”
I don’t know. Some of it seemed realistic enough to be dramatic, but other stuff wasn’t so it seemed like it should have been funny.
I skipped forward to see how it ended after pausing a million times.

I really liked it. It was definitely too long. Even though it was an out there comedy/satire film, it hits a little too close to real life. Jonah Hill's character was my favorite. And I really liked Jennifer Lawrence too.
I haven't watched it yet, so I'm curious what people think. Maybe a little flameful, but I was bummed when I learned this was a satire about the climate crisis. I just wanted to watch a good movie with all these big actors and not a world ending depressing thing. I do hope it brings some much needed attention to the issue though, but I also kind of wonder if it will actually change anyone's mind or if it will just validate those of us who already believe it's a serious problem and annoy people who don't.

I’m going to venture to guess that those who need to hear it won’t get it.
I was having such trouble following the posts because I was all “What is the name of the movie?” because my brain read ‘Don’t Look Up’ as a command, not a title.
When I googled the actors, I found the movie and realized my mistake.
I also enjoyed it. Jonah Hill's character was great. When he and Jennifer Lawrence are talking about how he made sure they put a bag over her head I got a good laugh.
Has anyone seen Leo's documentary Before The Flood? There were some things that stood out to me that were similar to the documentary, like how people online were calling the scientist a specific name (I want to say "crackpot"? ? ? maybe?). For some reason when he said that word in Don't Look Up I immediately remembered the same word being used to describe the climate crisis scientist in his Before The Flood documentary and knew this must be about climate change.
If anyone follows Leo's social media, bringing awareness to the climate crisis is basically his life's mission. I've learned quite a bit about the climate crisis from him- like how severe of an impact palm oil has on our planet. I had no idea just how significant the impact was. Just remembering those clips from Before The Flood about palm oil are devastating.
I think I'm enjoying it? I'm about 45 minutes into it. I suspect it's having the intended impact on me. I'm laughing out of discomfort, I'm horrified by the reaction of the president and the general public even though I think it's literally spot on, etc.
I just got done watching it and I’m somehow simultaneously appalled and horrified and entertained. And imo Jason Orlean is an amazing compilation of Ivanka and Jr.
Ok, I laughed really hard as the comet is coming down and the one network tv guy is just unable to talk and then they show the "Fox News" network and the anchor says "And now, the story people can't stop talking about: topless urgent care centers." How fucking accurate. lolsob

Eh. We didn’t hate it or love it. It seemed a bit flabby for satire and we really didn’t care about any of the characters. Overstuffed with things like the concert. My H and I liked the family meal at the end; that was touching.

It made me feel like someone decided to make a movie about how it felt to be an American with Donald Trump as president during a global crisis, and I felt seen, but also felt ALL the emotions and stress that was so specific to his 4 years (and somehow both similar and different from the general stress of Covid) come rushing back, and that was not so enjoyable.

Ditto. The end was my favorite part.
It felt like a tug-o-war between different writers/directors that couldn’t agree.
Leo’s affair seemed to come out of nowhere and was just weird and depressing.

I loved the cast and premise. Too bad.
I did absolutely hate the affair portion, but I could also see where they were probably being pretty realistic in showing how a quiet mid-west guy thrown into the limelight might make big mistakes like that, especially if he felt despondent regarding the current state of affairs. But yes, I really wish they would have had him remain faithful.
This tread gave me the idea to watch this movie and I liked it a lot. I think it really helped that I was prepared for a satire on climate change and prepared that it was generally odd.
I don’t think it was brilliant or anything, just clever. When they got to the part where they had a National, public campaign saying “Don’t Look Up” in response to events literally in front of everyone’s eyes I was all “yeeeesssssssss” in more ways than just climate change (I am looking at you January 6th Committee). It was oddly satisfying to see my many years of pent-up anger expressed in art/film.
I would say more but I don’t want to spoil the movie too much for anyone who has not seen it. I would recommend it.
It’s interesting how the scuttlebutt on SM is whether the characters are Trump or Trump Jr, or Ivanka.
I did read some right commentary on how Strep is playing Biden, but I laughed too hard to continue reading.
All the above.
Also Bash is an amalgam of apple, zuck, musk, bezos, and the MI complex.
But no to Biden. As the internets would say, that's Ludacris!
Jonah Hill is definitely javanka. I died at his speech about elites and spas.
It won't go up there with best movies. But it was an entertaining time. When I thought it was too on the nose, it rescued by going ott into satire. Arianna's song lyrics were fab.
I liked the fact that Dr. Mindy changed his ways and did not die alone as his "algorithms" had predicted; not so much for the Prez who was eaten by the Brontaroc.
