I was reading the letters submitted pleading the judge for leniency in the sentencing of Josh Duggar and I see that Michelle Duggar dots her i with a heart.
FIL is still combative about being in memory care. SIL went to visit him to set up some extra furniture and a TV in his room, she showed up and he was packed up and ready to leave. When she said no, he threatened to beat her. So sad. DH is heading up to visit tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how he reacts.
We visited MIL last weekend and it was a nice visit. She seems happy, but is obviously also confused. She mentioned that she's talks to her older brother every night on the phone, he died 40 years ago. But we went through some of her old photos and had a nice time hearing a few stories she could share.
I need to clean up our yard, it's terrible. Hopefully, our heat wave will disappear so it won't be as bad.
Every time I look at the thread topics I'm disappointed that someone isn't asking for help picking a fight. I can't help with flights, but I'm your girl if you're looking to start a fight.
Want to go up against an elementary school SPED teacher?
Oh I have a lot of pent up anger about how DD's school handled (or more specifically, didn't handle) her significant learning disabilities. I could fight about this.

I did self checkout at the grocery store the other day. When I loaded the groceries into my car afterwards I realized I had not paid for a lime. I internally shrugged and tossed it in the grocery bag and drove away.

We are still battling for the correct services . They keep saying they don’t need to give him what we & his private therapist think he needs because it isn’t affecting his academics. It’s like they have totally forgotten that GT kids (like DS1) can be SPED students too.
What? I have never seen that. I mean of course I have seen basements plumbed for a bathroom but never a random toilet out in the open. That would seem odd to me too!

Houses I've looked at in the last year I could still find pictures of:]
At least the last one isn't completely out in the open, but this isn't an uncommon setup. br]
My parents had two houses like this. Best I can tell, they wanted the houses to be plumbed for a basement bathroom but they didn’t want to do a basement bathroom themselves.
I got promoted recently to a director position. I have hired two people and I am shocked at the amount of money we are giving these people. My first hire makes quite a bit more than me, and I do pretty damn well. The market is crazy.

why do I have the feeling that you're not the one starting the fight?!?
I feel a responsibility now to come up with a fight thread. What should we fight about? Kid sports? East coast vs west coast? Splitting checks evenly or by what you ordered? Destination bachelorette parties? Is a hot dog a sandwich? Is Post Malone attractive?
Give me a topic. I'll argue.
1. If your 5 year old has a personal trainer you have ruined youth sports. Thanks. 2. East coast. Obviously. 3. Evenly? Fuck that. 4. Get over yourselves. 5. No. Obviously. 6. Yikes. Nice eye color? Best I can do.
I am alone in my office today with nothing to do and I've gone down the Groupon hole. I am also happy to report that the bowling alley that was charging $200 for bowling has finally released a Groupon! I really hope I use these things. I tend to let them expire unless I use them immediately. But it's getting too expensive to go out and I'm not staying home so I'm trying again!

You should ask for a salary adjustment. That's bonkers. Lean in. LOL
We had a money conversation last night and H wants us each to run all purchases by each other. Um, no. He's the one who rings up $1500 a month on his credit card buying lunches and random shit, I'm not running a $6 Starbucks purchase by him. No thank you. He can fuck right off with that bullshit. Clearly this whole marriage thing is working out well.
We actually do this in my house. Granted, there’s a background of some financial infidelity/reckless spending, but it has helped us a lot to know where money is going.
We each have veto power over the other, usually in the form of, “We have food at home,” (lol) or, “Wait until Friday when my check/your check is deposited.”
It is not, “I will be spending $65.22 at the gas station, for 11 gallons of gas, 2 snickers bars, and 2 diet cokes” but it is, “Hey, I’m filling up my tank, grabbing some snacks for my office, and I’ll be heading out to lunch with a friend today.”
Then, we pair that knowledge with a weekly review of stuff. I also check balances daily as part of my wake-up routine since we have some not-so-regular bills that auto-withdraw every 2-3 months. But the convo is weekly - Are we doing ok, is one of us spending too much (or both), are we meeting our savings goals, did we have any emergencies, do we have any big purchases coming up, etc.
I feel like you’ve posted about struggling with debt and reckless spending for a while now. I don’t necessarily know that the approach mentioned would work for you, but clearly there’s an issue that needs to be addressed.

I just got a 20% raise so they won't go for that. ha.

The one thing I will miss from winter 2020 and 2021 (keep in mind I'm southern hemisphere) is the lack of any kind of cold. My sinuses feel like they're going to explode right now as my immune system tries to remember how to function when we're not in quarantine.
I am so mad about ignorant comments people make regarding the formula shortage, and it's not even an issue that personally affects me! Sending love to anyone who's having to stress over that right now.
I just got a 20% raise so they won't go for that. ha.
Ask them for a plan to get you to the market rate. Don't sell yourself short!
Yes - my HR director friend coached me to say, I'd like to understand how I compare to the salary mid-point for my peers, and I'd like to talk through a plan to make sure I'm comparable to at least the midpoint.
That conversation got me a 10% mid cycle adjustment over the summer, and then 6 months later, it got me another 20% on top of that.
At a prior employer, years ago, my director told me the salary band for my job, and it was $65K to $105K, that's over 60% variance between the two. So a 20% adjustment to the bottom person sounds like an impressive percentage, but it wouldn't even get them to the middle of the band.
I got the call from DS' school this morning. He barfed in class and needed to be picked up. Don't know how we made it to May before that happened as he barfs easily (he has an over active gag reflex and eating challenges).
After evading it for 26 months, I tested positive for Covid this morning. I’m really sick. I have a fever, aches, chills, violent coughing, my eyes are itchy and burning, and I’m just finding it hard to get out of bed. DH is going to pick up DS from school and then they’ll both test. Would not be surprised if we all have it.

Any tips? Does regular cold medicine help?
Regular cough syrup and mucinex helped me. My violent coughing passed in 2 days so I hope yours does, too. H is still negative. Feel better!

That's crazy LOL In 3 different periods of house hunting I've never seen this - at least not in Michigan. That first one especially - just slap up a wall already haha!

No experience with Covid cough, but I think delsym really is amazing for a deep cough. If it is more mucous-y and wet I like mucinex.

Deslym helped my DS back in December. His dr also recommenced mucinex. We didn't try that for him though. Mucinex has sort of helped me. I might have an infection though (my dr has me on antibiotics) as my congestion and fluid in my ears has been on going for more than 2 weeks. What really helps me with all those symptoms in before times has been dayquil/nyquil.
Wednesday night storms ripped thru the area. I ended up with a huge 25 year old tree ontop of my garage, tons of trees in the road and live wires laying on the road. I live on a dead end street so we were trapped in our neighborhood until about noon Thursday when the power company got the wires off the road.
Power was finally restored last night around 8, so it was 24 hours without power.
I had to go to work today because of some important meetings but tonight I get the joy of throwing out 2 freezers full of food that thawed out and dairy products from the fridge.
Atleast no one was hurt. I need to remind myself that it could have been so much worse. This was the first storm I've been in that actually scared me. The house shook and I was just waiting for the windows to blow out.
I am home nursing 8 stitches in my thigh so it's been a chill day resting. The fraud department from my credit card just called. Apparently when you never use your CC and suddenly make 3 random purchases in one day, including airline tickets, they want to check in!
I HAVE PLANS TO SEE MY PARENTS!!!!! We haven't seen them since July 2019. 3 fucking years. I am so ridiculously excited to hug them again.
And thanks to ML, I paid the extra for seat selection on these flights. I've always been lucky to get seats together when we check in, but I decided it wasn't worth saving $48 to risk being *that* mom on the plane.

I've had longer power outages before and most of my freezer stuff was fine. As long as it was still cold or partially frozen, I kept it. Even if it was somewhat thawed but still cold, I refroze it. This actually just happened a few weeks ago and we have eaten some of the food. No issues.

Um, yes. I'm hiring right now for the role I started in 10 years ago at my organization. We've screened 8 people. ALL of them want at least $20K and often $30K more than it makes, which makes it basically my salary two rungs up from that role. I want us all to be paid appropriately but it is like pulling teeth to get my organization understand that we are NOT going to fill these roles at this rate. HR keeps trying to get me to consider new grads and this role requires practical experience. If I hire a new grad, it will take me years to train them up to where they need to be and in the meantime, they are getting paid $20K less than me for me to do their job and mine too? No.
ETA: I've been asking for six months to just have my boss review my salary to see that I'm in line with my male co-workers. It either has not happened or they know I am not in line and don't want to deal with it because crickets.

I am at the airport waiting on my flight home home after a weeklong work event. It filled my soul to spend so much time with so many amazing people. There are a few that make me glad I’m remote, as in, no way I could be civil to them at n office on the daily, but overall it was a great trip.
But also, airport wine at a table by myself is the literal best. I am just done. Too much being “on” for me. And I have SO MUCH work to catch up on. So much. Uggghhhh. For now, though, I’m going to bask in my aloneness!
I feel a responsibility now to come up with a fight thread. What should we fight about? Kid sports? East coast vs west coast? Splitting checks evenly or by what you ordered? Destination bachelorette parties? Is a hot dog a sandwich? Is Post Malone attractive?

Kid Sports: my 7 year old DD is way into sports. H is of course hoping she’ll get a sports college scholarship like he did but I’m SO not up for the level of dedication and competition required of kids these day.
East Coast 4 Lyfe
Split the damn check. I won’t go out again with people who want to line item the check because one person had a side salad and they didn’t. One exception is in one group of friends who go out regularly, one person doesn’t drink so she just puts in for her meal and we all split the rest. We’ve been doing this for 10 years. I mostly go out with the same groups over and over and we’re all splitters.
Destination bachelorettes: fun in theory but at this point in life I have to prioritize my spending elsewhere. Thankfully these are infrequent in the mid-40’s!
Hot dog is not a sandwich

ETA: I’ll amend the check splitting thing to say I agree with jinkies that if what’s ordered is wildly different in cost it should be broken down differently. When I have gone out to eat that’s really never the case, everyone is getting apps, drinks and meals roughly in the same ballpark for price so splitting makes sense. If one person gets a cup of soup for a meal and someone else gets lobster, that’s obviously different.
