I’m not fully recovered, but I feel really good. The actual entry point (I hate the word wound, lol) is almost fully healed…It’s just a small scab now.
My back muscles get fatigued really easily, so I can’t lift or carry heavier items, but that’s also improving. I do get random pains here and there at my left shoulder blade and on my left side, but I really think it’s just that the swelling is going down finally. I drove for the first time yesterday, and that was fine as long as I keep a pillow behind me for some support.
I’m able to do light workouts on the treadmill and bike, but no lifting just yet.
For less than 3 weeks out from the shooting, I’d say I’m doing really well!
Are you able to share what’s going on with the shooter? Is she being charged? Maybe you updated already and I missed it.

I’ve decided my husband is a feral cat when it comes to how we work together on home projects. I need to speak gently and possibly leave a bowl of food unattended to keep him from getting panicked and running away.

There really aren’t any updates…The DA is reviewing for 60 days and then will make a determination.
It was accidental, so I guess that’s factoring into why there is a longer review period, maybe?
I know I’m being a bit vague, but since they haven’t made any determination I don’t want to say too much, you know?
arielroux - I said this before, but I hope you're able to bring a civil suit. I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV or the internet, but there has GOT to be a way for you to be compensated and for her to have some kind of punishment, even if it's just an increase in her insurance premiums.

@maudefinlay - yes I saw that comment! I was gonna say something and then I forgot. Even if you’re a stay at home parent putting your kids in camp seems like a totally normal and necessary thing to do (if you want to) for a variety of reasons. Like wtf, so bizarre. Even I get it and I’m not a parent!
So they expect a buyer to have only $198k in assets and then pay $195k in cash?
Wait, what? This seems like it's a perfect setup for someone with parents/family with assets and then a college kid/newly entering the workforce type person. Is that their goal here for it not to be a family?
It doesn't seem conducive to a family who is making 48k w/limited assets and then having an additional $195k cash.
I have no idea. It’s been on the market for a couple months and it’s a prime location. Buildings like that often have a lot of restrictions so I don’t know if gifting someone the apartment is ok with the rules of the building.
Otherwise, I don’t understand how it’ll ever sell for cash only with a family making $48,000. And it said that’s the income limit for a household of 3! So the Income limit for a household of 1 is likely lower!

Imposter syndrome settled in big time this weekend about my new job and move. That's stupid because I'm doing fairly similar work in a system I've used before. I know I can do it and they wouldn't have hired me if they didn't think I could.
With all the storms last week, it never dawned on me to check my parent's land line (my mother insists on keeping it.) Of course, it is out. Now the phone company is giving me grief for not contacting them the day it went out.
Why does it matter? Maybe they were out of town and just got back.

I have a random vent. I am SO effing sick & tired of people (i.e. friends that I am supposedly close to?!) acting like they are shocked out of their minds when I say that I am back in the office full time. Why are they STILL asking me this & HOW MANY FREAKING TIMES HAVE YOU ALREADY ASKED ME??? Holy shit people- its currently May 2022. I work for the State and we have been back in the office for at least a year now.
Get on the freaking clue bus and DON'T ASK ME AGAIN IF I'M BACK IN THE OFFICE. FFS. Do people listen to me, EVER? Apparently not.
I have been lusting over a Dyson Airwrap but omg the price. I bought a Chi Spin n Curl I found on sale and played with it last night. It's neat! My hair was super dirty and sweaty and I just wanted to play around, but I think it might be good when I finally use it for real. I hope I love it like I think I will. With the current wand I have I need to straighten my hair before use or it's too frizzy but it looks like that won't be the case with this one. YAY
My H has a stomach thing and OMG please be his Celiac and not a contagious stomach bug. LOL
Our garage door won't open. It's only 7 years old. The spring broke. The quote to fix is $750. WTF?!?! According to google this is super high but I also like super do NOT have the badwidth or desire to shop around right now. Thankfully it broke when both our cars were gone which is kind of a miracle because I rarely go anywhere these days. Ha. I want my garage back. I love my garage. :::sob:::
Oof, that is high. I just had this happen, and we paid $210ish to fix it. They first came out, and rigged it up so we could use it while we waited for the new spring to come in. Then they came back 10 days later and installed it. I didn't even think to shop around, I called the only place I knew that did repairs.

Shit. Maybe we should shop around. Ugh. We called the place that installed it 7 years ago. I can see that was not the best decision.
I’m at the beach relaxing the next couple days. The B&B isn’t bad but there are basically no available electrical outlets in the room. I just had to run to Target to get a power strip. I actually had brought one but it was one of those flat lay one and wouldn’t fit in the plug right. I have a lot of devices lol. I was worried I’d get bored at night or not be able to sleep so I have my iPad, Switch, Kindle plus my watch and phone. Modern life! But I’m glad I did because things are closing pretty early here since it’s not the high season yet.
It’s supposed to be rainy today but I did get to eat breakfast on the beach. Fingers crossed tomorrow is sunnier!

You really should. We just had our garage door replaced (springs are fine). The door was $1100, but he said in the before times it was more like $800. He said when the springs go out it will be around $300.

That’s definitely still an option, I just haven’t taken any steps to even talk to anyone yet. She already offered to pay any medical bills I might receive, but who knows how long that will take (and if that offer will still hold up once/if I get them)…Last time I was in the hospital I didn’t get a bill until over a year after my stay, lol.
it’s been such a whirlwind the last couple weeks with being shot, getting things ready for my new job, leaving my previous role, etc it’s like I’ve had no time to even process or consider my options. I could use a small break from, well…everything, just to take a breath.

I totally get that. I hope you get a chance to breathe soon.

I agree. Especially if your kids are used to being at school and busy all day. Summer is loooong when the kids are home and bored all day!
I'm tired and need a nap! My trip to Dallas for my friends wedding was so fun and I saw a lot of people this weekend which was nice. My flight didn't land until after 10 last night and there were no Lyft drivers to be found so I had to take a cab which sucks because the driver got kinda lost leaving the airport and it costs way more than Lyft! But he did knock off 15$ since he went the wrong way and it took longer. I stupidly left my iPad at the hotel but they found it and are mailing it back to me...I sent a prepaid label. I hope they send it today because I hate being without it.
So they expect a buyer to have only $198k in assets and then pay $195k in cash?
Exactly, I don’t get it!
I remember this being written about a few years ago and googled it
As the guy in the article said, it’s like you have to be income poor but savings rich. I bet a lot of people are like him and the other lady they interviewed and have an inheritance. Or retired people? I wonder if they are only considering cash or property to be an asset so your 401 K would be exempt?
It doesn’t seem like any money can be a gift at the time of purchase though.

I was just surprised by the asset cap. I hadn’t seen that advertised in these type of buildings before. Only income caps. I don’t understand how an inheritance wouldn’t count towards your asset cap if it’s in your bank account, but I guess that answers the question that you can be gifted the money through an inheritance for example.

I don’t think it can be a gift of money at purchase. I think most people are either people who are older and have been saving for a long time (but could never buy at NYC market price) or have come into a relatively modest amount money via an inheritance but have a lower income themselves.

Yeah, it’s not uncommon in these listings.
An inheritance would count toward your asset cap because it would have to already be in your savings. It’s not a gift. But it’s often how a lower income person would have that much money saved.
So in your example the person wanting to buy makes 48k or less, has saved ABC, inherited XYZ in 2020 or whenever to make the purchase price and now will have only three thousand in cash/assets/savings after the sale. It sounds a little risky to me but they would own their apartment outright.

I haven’t often seen the asset cap.
Even in the article you posted it says: "At these prices, it’s reasonable to wonder: Who can afford to buy these apartments with a limited income? Increasingly, brokers and housing advocates say, the answer is retirees, young people receiving help from their families, middle-class workers with a sudden inheritance and others who qualify on paper for the income caps but have significant assets."
So it mentions people having assets, which makes total sense. But that’s not what the listing I mentioned is talking about. You still have to pay the monthly maintenance fee as well, which per the listing is $550 per month, so to only have $3,000 left to your name after buying an apartment doesn’t seem to add up. But maybe there’s more to it.

I walked dd to the bus stop this morning- it’s maybe 1/10 of a mile from our house. Then I stood and talked to our neighbor for a bit. It is so humid out, I am dripping sweat. Ugh.
We’re supposed to get bad weather between 12 and 6. Fingers crossed it ends on time and we’re still able to get to the Orioles game tonight!
Yes! We leave around the same time the school bus comes so DS enjoys seeing the kids load up, etc. The bus driver beeps to him so its a thing lol.
But it takes like 5 mins of just standing outside in the heat and humidity. By the time we get in the car my makeup starting to melt off my face.

OMG, SAME!!!! And I have also told them we are no longer allowed to work from home, no matter what the circumstances. So, of course, now that I am out after having surgery, they are all asking me if I am able to work from home 🤦🏼♀️
I think I have cdiff from antibiotics urgent care gave me for a skin infection under my boob. FML we just got over lice. I am miserable and waiting at the ER per doctor’s orders.
We had such a nice weekend at the pool. Waking up to being violently ill at 1am was not how I wanted it to end.

It was me who made the comment that everyone is interpreting as me bashing SAHMs who use summer camp, which was not my intention at all.
I am frustrated that my town's rec camp's standard hours provide 6.5 hours of care per day, which is not enough for most people who need child care to work. Obviously it does work out for some people, who who probably either have flexible jobs or are SAHP. I never used the rec camp when I was a SAHM because I could not justify spending that kind of money when it wasn't necessary for me to work.
Have you ever waited a long time for furniture and then it doesn’t look how you imagined it would? We waited for MONTHS for our pottery barn couches to arrive and they came broken so I bought the dupes at IKEA. Now I’m not sure they really work in the room because of how the windows are laid out 🤦🏻♀️

Ah ok. The only people I know who have lived in NYC or are living there had minimal salaries themselves in terms of qualifying for a NYC apartment...but had extremely wealthy parents.
