I currently have three jobs bc they raised our rent so high, but then everywhere else is also ridiculous and buying something is out of our price range, even in areas that have historically been super cheap.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
I feel like we’re a MCOL. Our gas prices are high, but not nearly as bad as some mentioned in here. I only fill up like every 3 weeks and I have a small tank, but H has def felt it with his commute. I haven’t noticed crazy increases at restaurants here. No kids makes groceries easier too.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I 100% know this is a first world complaint but I need to sell stock when it’s time for me to buy a new car. With the stock market down so low and car prices ridiculously inflated, I cring every time my car makes any sort of weird noise.
We’re feeling the pinch pretty significantly. I took a huge pay cut in February and accrued thousands in unexpected medical bills. Our grocery bill was already astronomical with multiple food allergies and celiac in the house. We’re making it work, but our budget is extremely tight. A lot of things are being cut.
I have the luxury of not looking to closely at our grocery budget. It is increased but we are just ignoring that line item.
I am mostly concerned how Dems are going to lose big during midterms. No way they don’t get punished for this.
Same on both accounts:( Also realizing that we don’t have H’s student loan payments anymore, so I think that may have helped with absorbing extra costs and not feeling it.

Before Covid we used to go out to dinner maybe once every week or two and I really liked it. Normally it would cost about 100 dollars.
Recently we went to dinner at the same place we’ve gone many times and it was $150, we all order the same things.
I know this is a total fwp and all, but it really feels to me like everything is 25-50% more expensive! I filled my small car and it was $60, but I’ve filled it for $25 in the past. It’s now $12 to buy a salad or sandwich for lunch but it used to be $7-8
Oh, my husband is attending this mountain bike clinic weekend, he booked it a year ago and said it was about 400 bucks (pricy) and he said “you should attend one of these!” So I looked it up to see when the next ones are and now it’s $850?! This doesn’t include accommodation or food, just two days 8-4 of group skills instruction. The crazy thing is a lot of them are sold out!!
And all the houses are still selling around us for crazy prices..

This is another thing, we aren’t really going out to eat much, at all. It was initially covid and now just habit. Since we just had covid we might start going out more again, but we order on Uber eats/waitr, etc, and it’s usually less expensive types of restaurants than we would go to. Even fast food types of places, so when we go out somewhere nicer soon I will have to pay more attention to the prices and see.

I just returned from looking at an apt. I lived in that building before, in a much bigger, much nicer unit. Same price. There is literally no fridge in the place I just viewed. I repeat, no fridge in an apt. I was told the owners took it with them. So? Give me a fridge!
So, yeah, I feel this.
My favorite restaurant just increased their lunch prix fixe 30%. It's still a good bargain, and I know he's just passing along costs (I know chef/owner), but, damn.
We moved last month and we had definitely been out of the groove of normal grocery shopping prior to that. I’ve been trying to get back into my normal routine and I was completely *shocked* at the prices of some things.

The Dems need to start pointing out that this is not just a USA problem. We have more and more people having to use food banks in the UK due to food prices increasing (which is not just a Brexit thing but it contributes). Our housing costs, building costs, etc costs are all going up. Many countries are struggling with prices of everything increasing. This is not down to something the Dems are doing or not doing (and it appears the Repubs are standing in the way of Dems doing anything anyway).

It’s really bad. We are ML poor and definitely feeling the squeeze. With summer coming, I am concerned about keeping my kids occupied. We normally have a summer mixed with a camp per kid and other “fun” with mom. Fun means we are driving all over south Florida. Filling up at $70 a week for just my car means less of that for sure. Peter Pan peanut butter is $4.80 at Publix (I do not buy it there unless it’s BOGO lol).I shop between stores and have always kept a list of how much items are at each store that we buy frequently. My kids like Quaker packaged oatmeal. Earlier this year it was $3.89. It’s now $4.99.

Yes we are feeling it too! My husband makes more than me but his salary has been stagnant for years with only COL increases. Looks like he will just need to ride out his job until retirement since he's in such a niche. I'm a mental health therapist so my business is booming but I feel guilty to make money because the world is in a bad place. A lot of my clients are stressed about the economy.
We have a son going to college next year. It's going to be so expensive--even in state. It would be nice to look for new cars but we won't. We are downsizing our travel. I know these are all FWPs.
We are eating out less but that's healthier anyway. We are focusing our socializing on tennis and meeting friends for walks and bike rides and wine on patios instead of restaurants. We are encouraging our kids to have friends over to our neighborhood pool. I'm trying to remember that a night in reading a book, watching birds in our backyard, taking an Epsom salt bath and going to bed early is really nice and not that expensive. Ha ha, sorry to go off on a tangent but I'm using it as a reason to slow down. It doesn't mean it doesn't worry me though.
I think as most know, I'm single/alone, so 1 income with a small side hustle.
I got my property tax bill, and it went up nearly 30%! I'm going to contact my friend and real estate attorney on Monday and ask her advice on appealing.
Food is up. I've gone from spending about $60/week on food to $75. This doesn't count my eating out (I also hate cooking). The average fast casual meal has gone from about $10 to $12-13. I'm fortunate that I can do it, but still! Gas is a killer since I drive once on the weekends somewhere about 30-50 miles away to ride with friends, and that's one way. It's hard to carpool when you live all over a major metro area. I'm not willing to give that up right now. I have started riding from my house the other day on the weekend and only driving local that day (ie home improvement store, grocery store, etc.). I also try to park my car 1-2 days/week. Thankfully I WFH.
Other things are up, too, and it's starting to impact the budget. I'm putting just a bit less in savings every months and have a feeling that will go down. My raise was PITIFUL this year and not even a fraction of inflation.

Definitely true in Chile too. For us part of the problem is that in Oct 2019 we had massive social unrest that meant a) some increases to things like pensions and the minimum wage and b) some payouts to businesses that were destroyed or had to temporarily close due to protests. Then pandemic and more government support - which was totally needed - and some big cash injections when people were allowed to take money out from their pensions early several times, and inflation started rising, people aren't taking jobs with lower wages, all that kind of thing. Plus of course we've got price increases due to all the global factors like supply chain and the war. Our family is fine, but it's really unsustainable for so many right now, especially with winter starting and the price of gas and kerosene (main heating fuel) being so high. I mean, on the main national news the other night they were telling people how to make bread because bread is so expensive, it's on that level.

In 2019 I was spending $300 a month. The kids eat a lot more now,, but I realized I’m spending that each trip- about $800 a month when you add in pantry staples from Amazon ect. We will lose WIC soon and the kids need lactose free milk, so that will hurt our grocery budget even more.
I have the luxury of not looking to closely at our grocery budget. It is increased but we are just ignoring that line item.

Yes H had his last bit forgiven. I also got a new job with a pretty good raise. We are lucky to absorb in that way.
I just placed my grocery order for the week. Store brand gallon of milk is 4.50. Absolute insanity. I feel so bad for people who are really taking a hit right now. Awful
Yes, seeing milk go above $5 a gallon was a little shocking. That and filling my tank for above $60.
What I'm really worried about is heating oil. Last winter we paid more than $500 a month to heat our house in the winter months. And this isn't for a luxury house. Ours is 1600 square feet, fairly tightly insulated, and we heat it to 65 degrees. Next winter will be much worse, and although we can handle the price increases, a lot of people simply won't be able to. I foresee a lot of people turning their heat down super low, just to the point where their pipes won't burst, not paying the full amount, and trying to catch up in the summer. Oil isn't a public utility; trucks bring it to your house, and you're dependent on the kindness of the company selling you the oil whether trucks will keep bringing it to you when you're not paying in full.
We've been hit hard by this. We moved back to the US as the prices started going up, had to buy a vehicle, had no furniture, and ended up saying "eff it" and just have the bare essentials (beds, cheapo lawn chaira to sit on in our living room, and a dining room table). Thankfully I had all my kitchen wares in storage so that saved us on expenses.
H got a second job since all the expenses and risks of me getting a job we can't afford (second car, gas, child care, time off is DD is sick which is every month). We decided DD and I will move in my parents while H stays behind for his work.
The $5 jar of Smuckers jam at Kroger the other day gave me pause.
When I have it together, I spend an hour online shopping between Target and Kroger to get the best price on each item. Then I put in a Target drive up and shop in person at Kroger. Between the extra 5% RedCard discount, keeping a grocery price list, couponing, only buying what’s on sale, and meal planning - I can keep it under control. But it’s not something I have time to do consistently.
We did cancel our big vacation for the summer. Flights were expensive for what were really terrible schedules. Not worth it to pay a premium for that. We planned something within driving distance instead where I can use Marriott points from work. We spent a lot of money on the house this year so had to cut back on vacation…more of a budget call than a price issue.
I know I’m generalizing here, but usually the labor of shopping for deals on groceries, and putting food on the table within the household budget, falls to women. It’s intense, and extremely draining, to be the one spending all their time searching for deals and running around town trying to find out-of-stock items or BOGO deals.
My mom is here, she’s a weekly shopper that buys the same stuff and eats very healthy. She said she was normally spending $60/week and now it’s $80-$90.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

Even here, where the Dems have a supermajority, we can’t seem to get our act together. The Newsom camp wants to give people a $400 gas rebate per car while the other camp wants to give a flat $200/pp rebate (including dependents) with a cap based on income.
I’m all for an income cap, but come on, get it done, people.
Also adding pet food to the list of things that has become significantly more expensive! We used to be able to buy a case of wet cat food (Purina Pro Plan Urinary, 24 3oz cans) for about $26-27 on Amazon. It’s now $35-40 per case. We go through 4 cases every 24 days. I’d switch them, but a) they’re picky, b) vet bills are also expensive, and c) at least I can consistently find this cat food, when just about everything else is out of stock (I must be one of very few people willing to spend this much to feed cats).

One of the several reasons adding a puppy to our family probably wasn’t the best idea during these expensive times! On top of the increase on what we buy for the cats. We love him and don’t have regrets, but we were incredibly dumb about how expensive this would be.
I squeaked in and bought a condo just before interest rates rose. I never owned a house before and this one needed a bit of work, so naturally I’m feeling house poor. (But not complaining cuz I feel very fortunate to have a stable house payment.)
I’m planning to rent out my primary (master) bedroom suite for extra income and talking to potential tenants has been eye opening to say the least. I’d say half the people can barely come up with deposit/ first months’ rent and are barely making it paycheck to paycheck. There are a lot of sad stories from single parents and I want to help but I can’t work from home with someone’s toddler in the house.
The really tragic part is many of these are locals born and raised who remember when San Diego was a relatively affordable city with a large middle class. They’re in denial about what’s happening. These folks who are contacting me about the room aren’t making plans to upgrade skills or move somewhere cheaper. If we have a recession next year, they are going to be homeless. And our homeless population already increased 10% in 2 years.
The other half of people looking for housing are techies or generally high-skilled people who have moved to this very touristy but lower wage part in CA and are willing to throw money at landlords. The catch is that they have very high expectations for a styled Instagram-ready furnished place, sheets and towels provided, regular cleaning service, utilities rolled into the rent etc.
There’s almost no one in the middle — it’s either extreme. Now I’m trying to furnish the room as nicely as I can and hoping to rent to travel nurses.

Yes! Prices for everything have increased here. Our grocery bill has consistently been about $100/wk higher for the same things. I cannot wrap my mind around the $4/kg price for bananas. Our rent is increasing $30/wk. Every single item or service I've used in the past has increased in price, even if only a bit so far. This is absolutely a global issue.
I also paid $2.18/l (~$8/gal) for gas last week and I'm still mad about it. I know it's expensive everywhere right now, but over $2 is actually ridiculous.
