Just a reminder for people struggling with the cost of produce — frozen produce is just as healthy. The price of frozen has gone up too….but for out of season on produce, it’s still less expensive than fresh. Berries, mango, peaches, corn, broccoli are all quite tasty frozen.
When you defrost the fruit, is it mushy (like when you defrost fresh fruit)?

It’s softer than fresh, but not “mushy.” Like for peaches, it’s about the same a really ripe peach. You probably wouldn’t want to eat with your fingers, but with a fork. Great for throwing on top of cereal, oatmeal, or yogurt. Great for smoothies if you make those. It’s definitely not the same texture as fresh fruit, but for people looking to cut their grocery budget, it could be an option.
I’ve found most frozen veggies to be be the same texture when steamed as fresh veggies when steamed.

Yes. I personally can't stand the texture. No problem with frozen vegetables but I cannot stand frozen fruit!
Earlier in this thread I said we were hanging on to our summer plans but we just canceled a big trip. We just can't. It would cost nearly $2,000 for our family of 3 to fly to California for a long weekend. Can't justify it. I am so sad and feel so annoyed that after 2 years of Covid we now just can't afford to travel but it is what it is. We still have a longer trip planned so being upset is a FWP but I'm still sad.

Can you roast frozen vegetables with success? I don't eat steamed vegetables of any type, lol. I wondered how frozen could stand up to the oven, if at all.

I follow this food blogger on instagram and she tinkered with frozen roasted broccoli for a good bit before posting a recipe she thought worked: thenaturalnurturer.com/roasted-frozen-broccoli/. I haven't tried it yet since broccoli is one thing my kids devour when steamed, but they don't love it when roasted.

They sell a lot of frozen 'roasting' vegetable packs now, so made to go from the bag to roasting, and the ones I've tried have been good.

My family all has covid. I told H all pandemic long that if we ever got it I was using our immunity time to travel since our 3 year old can’t get vaccinated and it would be our best time to go. Tickets to go anywhere is outrageous. Gas to drive anywhere is outrageous. I’m so mad! We stayed healthy for 2 fucking years, stayed locked down, did virtual school. And now this. All I want is to go to the beach. FWP whining over.

Good to know! Thanks!
I don’t like the texture of frozen fruit but I just use them in smoothies so we can get out daily fruit.
Frozen veggies are a little better but I like them best in stir fry or in pasta dishes. I opt for canned or fresh veggies if they are going to be a side.
By using frozen, canned and fresh I can keep my bill (more) reasonable.
I do lots of frozen fruit and veggies! Mango defrosts well. Blueberries me and my kid like to eat straight frozen they're good and refreshing. I use frozen strawberries to blend up and add to yogurt. They don't defrost very well to eat straight.
I do broccoli in the air fryer and it gets some color to it like fresh roasted. It's not the same, but it's good enough. I use frozen spinach to add to things that call for wilted spinach. I use frozen corn a lot when doing like burrito bowls and stuff I roast it in a pan. Peas I microwave and add butter to. I make a chicken pot pie type thing and use frozen mixed veggies like green beans, peas, corn, and carrots. Plus then you don't have to prep and cut all that.

I roast frozen vegetables all the time. Takes a little longer straight from frozen to oven, but the taste is pretty much the same as fresh (plus less work!).
I don't buy that so I can't say. But I've only had a Costco membership for a year or 2 because I was added to my employer's business membership. The prices there are much higher on almost everything and that was before these increases.
Oh Costco is like THE place to get groceries here. It's significantly cheaper then everywhere else. Also randomly Whole Foods because they matched mainland prices when Amazon bought them.
Same. Costco prices are usually comparable with Aldi here. We tend toward Costco because they have a lot of the allergy-friendly items we need, but there are certain items I won't buy there. Our grocery bill was astronomical before all this. Our grocery bill is averaging at least 50% higher, even with shopping sales, etc.
I recently bought the honey bears and I think they were close to $20. Another random thing...we usually buy the Kirkland ham lunch meat. A few months ago we noticed they reduced from 3 in a package to 2. For the same price. So, even though the price never changed, customers are now getting at least a pound less meat for the price.
I’ve been trying to stick more to Kroger for all our shopping because they have been doing fuel point bonuses.
Also will buy gift cards there for the fuel bonus since it’s somewhere we will need to go like lowes or target. At least I get something for DH buying yard stuff.
But everything is just more. I did notice Kroger was cheaper than Aldi for eggs.
