Can we talk about pooping while on this? Anyone had issues? I’ve always had issues, but it’s a lot worse now. Any tips or tricks?
I know I need to do better about staying hydrated, and I should probably just do miralax daily again. I just forget. Lol. Thanks
Colace every day. Miralax when things are really bad.
I have been on Ozempic and because of the ongoing shortages am switching to Mounjaro next month. Oz is similar to MJ and I also have to do the Colace a few times a week to keep things soft, if you will. Eating prunes also helps. Just know that this is very common with these types of meds. Finally, do not fret if you are not as regular as you used to be. I attribute that to less food digestion overall.

Mounjaro changed the requirements of their copay card so that the pharmacy has to attest that the patient has diabetes (and is not using just for weight loss), so depending on how closely your pharmacist reads the fine print you may not be able to use. As far as constipation, I like magnesium citrate at night.
I was on 0.5mg Ozempic and switched to 1.7mg Wegovy. IT WAS HORRIBLE. The first 4 weeks was constant nausea. I had to take Zofran almost daily. However, once I adjusted to the dose it's been fine. So far I've gone from a BMI 30.5 to 26.4. I'm not sure if I'll bother increasing my dose. I'm seeing good results.
Do you need to be above a BMI of 25 to take the shots or any other qualifier?
Generally you need to be BMI >30 or BMI >27 with comorbidities

This thread convinced me to contact my endocrinologist about this. After on thyroid medication, I'm less swollen and less in pain but I still can't lose weight. The thing is that I hear a lot of people talking about appetite. I already barely eat and still gain weight. So maybe this isn't for me? IDK.

Yeah I would think that it may not work but I'd speak to your doctor. I think the benefit is the appetite suppressant, not that it actually results in the weight change just by taking it, if that makes sense.

Like someone else said, it does more than appetite suppression. In addition to the insulin resistance, it’s got some other benefits. The Mounjaro subreddit has had a bunch of informative articles shared there. It’s a brand new type of medication that will hopefully have other applications.
I can't imagine an ethical doctor prescribing this to someone who wasn't in the obese bmi range.
Yes I assume so as well, but wonder what happens when someone reaches 25? She is pretty close (so great!), so it had me curious.
So I'm on ozempic, not mounjaro (I have PCOS and insulin resistance, not diabetes), and I am now under a BMI of 25 (still in the "normal" range. I lost 60 lbs and I'm back at the weight I was before I became IR. I lost weight quickly in the first three months, then at about half the rate for the next three months, and now even though I'm on the same dose of Ozempic, I'm just maintaining (and I'm gaining muscle because I am more active and don't feel shitty all the time). I haven't been counting calories since I started on the ozempic, but I'm not starving all the time and it's easier to eat well. It seems like most people have a floor beyond which they just maintain. If I really started to drop below this weight, I could drop down to the lower dose. But most of these meds seem to just restore most people to a more typical metabolism, and that generally doesn't cause unlimited weight loss.

I assume you are referring to prescribing only weight loss but since it is not a weight loss drug, why would it be unethical? There are benefits aside from weight loss. I have type one and my A1C is the lowest its been since I was diagnosed in childhood thanks to Ozempic. My endo wants me on it for the cardio vascular benefits since T1D increases my risk. I am overweight and have lost about 15lbs but do know of many others in the T1D community who are having success with tighter control but are not overweight.
As for what happens when BMI falls below 25, my understanding is that this is a lifelong medication. I haven't stopped taking insulin because my A1C is now "non diabetic" and I won't stop Ozempic on the off chance I get my BMI that low.

My doctor prescribed Ozsmpric. I picked it up today. Any tips on when I should take it? Is morning or evening better? I’m planning on taking it tomorrow.

If you find yourself getting too nauseated, I found injecting into my thigh to have less side effects. Regardless, the first several weeks had very intense side effects and they tapered off with time.
This thread has me thinking about asking for one of these meds. Has anybody with Hashimoto's been on one and successfully lost weight? I've been on Levothyroxine for about 10 years and was diagnosed last year with Hashimoto's. I did tell my endocrinologist that it was very hard for me to lose weight and she just suggested I go see a nutritionist. My BMI is 31 and it's been almost impossible to lose weight.
Anyone moved up to the 5mg and feel terrible? The first couple days after my shot I am so nauseated. Last week was the same too. I gagged so bad trying to take my morning meds this morning....it's like pregnancy morning sickness all over again. I also feel very bloated and just blah. I'm taking mag citrate to help with any constipation issues. I don't know if I want to continue with it. I didn't have many issues on the 2.5. I lost two lbs the first week of 5mg which is fine. Any words of wisdom?

I was so sick for 6 days after that I called urgent care. It was insane. I literally could not consume anything other than small amounts of broth or gatorade for 6 days. PCP said it was not uncommon when going up in dosage, and it did go away after day 6. None of my other 5mg shots have caused that issue since then. I am a bit nervous to go up to 7.5 next week if I will have the same reaction. It was really terrible.

I can't speak to Mounjaro but Ozempic and Wegovy. Each dose change had me symptomatic for the first 3 days of each week for about 2 weeks.

Where are you injecting? I don’t know that it makes any difference scientifically, but injecting into the thigh seems lessen the nausea and other side effects.
Interestingly, I haven’t had any nausea with MJ whereas with OZ I was continually nauseated.
shauni27, I'm glad you are feeling better now! That's just terrible. Mine is nothing compared to that but I just don't know if its worth it for me. I guess I will do the third shot on Monday and see if it still happens. Please keep us updated on the 7.5 symptoms.
Saudade, good to know! I'm hoping with my third 5mg shot this will stop.

I'm a Wegovy girl, but was symptomatic for a few days following each dosage increase. Dramamine, increasing fluids, and hard candy helped.
Now on the full therapeutic dose for a couple months, I rarely have side effects.
sadie, I should try the Dramamine. Do you take it at night? It makes your sleepy correct? I'm sucking on peppermints and ginger chews and that helps some.

It doesn't make me tired, so I just took it as needed. It can cause drowsiness.
I am partial to jolly ranchers/lemonheads. Sour was good for me.

After 6 weeks of back and forth with insurance, pharmacy, and alpha, my prescription is finally ready to be picked up! I will probably until the weekend to start.

I actually find it takes around 36-48 hours for me to start getting nauseated, heart burn, fatigue. If I take on Tuesday I am most symptomatic Thursday.

Good to know! I’m getting my flu shot Friday afternoon, so I’m already expecting to feel crummy on Saturday.
