My library holds started coming in fast and furious after I suspended them for the month of July lol
So I've started The Measure by Nikki Erlick and I like it so far. It's a bit heavy handed on the discrimination metaphor(that's not the right word, but whatever) but I'm interested to see where it goes.
I also have the following checked out:
Upgrade - Blake Crouch Acts of Violet - Margarita Montimore The New Neighbor - Karen Cleveland The House Across the Lake - Riley Sager Hide - Kiersten White
Sometimes I end up with books on my hold list and I get them and I'm like, "Why did I request this?" Like You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi. It's by the author who wrote The Death of Vivek Oji and I liked that one, but this one is clearly a romance which is NOT a genre I enjoy.
I’m finishing up Nightwork by Nora Roberts right now. I don’t usually read Nora Roberts, but someone recommending this one as “different” and the crime thriller aspect jives with my newfound interest in the genre. It’s pretty good.
I’m going to start The Turnaway Study next for book club. It’s a study following women who wanted an abortion but where denied for whatever reason over ten years. I’m sure it will be depressing af, and I probably won’t finish it before book club, but I’m going to make myself start it tonight.
I finished my book around 12:30am so technically Aug Just finished Our Woman in Moscow by Beatriz Williams. It took me a little while to get into it but once I did I enjoyed it. I did feel there were a lot of little details that were easy to miss if I wasn't paying close attention, so several times I had to go back and re-read a part.
Currently also reading The Captain, David Wright's autobiography (Let's go Mets!) Working my way through it as I read other books. I think up next for me is The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher.

I can't remember if you listen to audiobooks, but if you do, highly recommend doing Acts of Violet in that format. It's a full cast recording, with a podcast, and I think would fall flat on the page. I feel like we have similar tastes - and in that vein, I suggest not reading the Riley Sager. ugh.

I don't generally listen to audiobooks just because I don't really know when I'd do it. I don't have a commute anymore and I find it hard to focus on them if I'm just sitting and listening or trying to do something and listen.
And yeah, I'm already pre-disappointed with The House Across the Lake because of the reviews I've read. So we'll see.

I'm reading It Was All a Dream: Biggie and the World That Made Him by Justin Tinsley. It's really interesting so far and makes me want to read the Jay-Z biography too.
My next read will be Portrait of a Thief, and I have The Summer I Turned Pretty lined up. I loved the series on Prime and I'm excited to read the books.
I'm halfway through Horse by Geraldine Brooks and it's amazing. Part historical fiction about a Kentucky thoroughbred that was the best to ever race and his enslaved teenaged groom/trainer and part contemporary story about a zoologist at the Smithsonian.

I just started reading Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. I've enjoyed a few other of her books and I saw at least 2 people mention this as as a favorite in the thread last week, so I thought I should read it!
I am also listening to the Time Traveler's Wife because I saw that one come up at least a couple of times and I know it's a popular older book that I haven't read. I also haven't seen the movie or TV show so I know nothing about what is going to happen. I think I always just assumed it was a fluffy romance so avoided it? IDK. Anyway, it's good so far!
Last week I finished listening to Under the Whispering Door, which was good, and reading The Shore, which was fine but IMO kind of boring.
I just started How Lucky, by Will Leitch. I like it so far. I'll read The Girl with the Louding Voice for my book club at the end of the month. I'm not sure what else. I got Fahrenheit 451 for my son so maybe I'll read that again so we can talk about it.
I just finished The Hotel Nantucket. I heard some mixed reviews on it, but I liked it. I think because I've been reading some heavy stuff lately. I totally was into this one and it was a fluffy, easy read.
The audio book of The Tattooist of Auschwitz was available today and I had a bit of a drive so I started it. I'm sorry to say I was not a fan. The person reading is good, but I don't care for the writing or the storytelling.
I finished Under The Whispering Door by TJ Klune and I really enjoyed it. I'm currently reading One Two Three by Laurie Frankel. I am about 50% through and like it so far.
Library holds that are coming up are Book Lovers by Emily Henry, Think Again by Adam Grant, Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren and Every Summer After by Carley Fortune. I've seen a few comments lately that Every Summer After is basically the same exact book as Love and Other Words, which makes me a bit hesitant to read them close together.
I just finished a bunch, including Upgrade (good, but I liked his other two recent ones even better), House Across the Lake (disappointing because I usually like his books), and Sister Stardust by Jane Green (could have used more meat and been a more fleshed out story, but I know her books are lighter), and now I am reading Marrying the Ketchups, which I’m enjoying. Next one the list is Remarkably Bright Creatures.

I just started "Every Vow You Break". Thank you to whomever recommended that one. Also chipping away at 7 Husband's of Evelyn Hugo, hope to finish that this weekend.
I'm trying to commit to start reading again. When I was younger I was a voracious reader, but family life and social media have ruined me. I'm a huge Stephen King fan, and while cleaning out my Dad's house I found a copy of Black House, so I'm committing to reading that this month. And then I have 3 other SK books sitting on a side table collecting dust that I'm hoping to get to next.
I just got One Italian Summer from the library holds so I will start that after the novella I'm reading.
I wasn't a fan of her last book, so we'll see. I try and only give authors 2 books before I decide it's not going to work.
So I started the book and I'm cringing, so it may be a DNF.
First, the daughter describes the relationship with her mom in an unhealthy manner. Second, the mom is Jewish (daughter doesn't say if she/is not) and they talk about the mom eating clams. SMH. What other details will be wrong?
