Flame away, but the Ghirardelli brownie mix is amazing. And yes, I grew up having homemade brownies and have made them myself many times. I still think the Ghirardelli mix is better.
If you don't need a traditional brownie, these Carmelitas are to die for. I dream of them. Seriously. www.averiecooks.com/carmelitas
And for a mix, I know everyone raves about Ghirardelli, but I actually prefer Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge!!! Ghirardelli are better freshly made, but Pillsbury retains way more chocolatey goodness even when cool.

I have never made brownies from scratch that are better than the Ghirardelli ones. I don’t even bother trying anymore. I’m sure others have had more success than me, but it’s the one thing that I just cannot seem to make better.
Also, I have made many cookie recipes from Averie Cooks and have never been let down. So good.
Oven:325 Bake:35-40 The espresso can be subbed with anything for flavor, I've done whiskey before, as well.
But I do agree that most box mixes are really good for brownies, and less work.
EDIT I should probably give you a method, I don't actually have any steps written in the recipe. Melt together butter and chocolate, try not to overheat. Mix in sugar. After sugar is incorporated add the eggs, vanilla and espresso/flavorings and mix. Last, fold in the salt and flour. Bake.
Sometimes I will get a box brownie mix and prepare the batter per the directions on the box. I'll pour half of the batter in a pyrex, layer with Oreos or mini PB cups, then layer on the remainder of the brownie batter, and bake as directed on the box.
Or in a pinch, I'll make these cookie brownies. I keep a box on hand at all times, because you never know!
Agreed the Ghiradelli mix is the best! I made this super fancy brownie recipe from a famous pastry chef using real chopped up bars of chocolate, etc and they were nowhere near as good. Huge disappointment. Box all the way!
I keep a massive box from Costco on hand at all times and add a big cup of walnuts to mine.
LOL, my mom made DS a pan from a Betty Crocker or Dunkin Hines mix last month and both DH and DS complained that there was "something wrong with them".
I have a friend who used to bake professionally, she sometimes layers cheap box brownies over a PB cookie box mix when she needs to rustle up a bake sale item on the fly.

This is what I was going to suggest. I really like to bake and have tried a lot of different recipes but the Ghirardelli are the ones that always gets the best feedback.
For homemade brownies, Ina Garten has a great recipe in one of the Barefoot Contessa cookbooks. I think it is called outrageous brownies and it makes a giant sheet pan size but it uses a lot of butter!

I'm going to have to try the Ghiarardelli boxed mix again...my family is partial to the Betty Crocker Delights Supreme Frosted Brownie mix because I'm all about the frosting on the brownies.
I was craving brownies one time and didn’t have a box mix so I think I googled something like brownie recipes that taste like boxed mix lol. These didn’t let me down. I like to sprinkle Ghirardelli 60% cacao chips on top for extra chocolate goodness.
I just recently learned about Symphony brownies and they are a revelation, lol.
You can use any brownie mix or recipe (agree with PPs that Ghiradelli is definitely the best...and the Hershey's cocoa recipe is my favorite for homemade), pour half of the batter in the pan, cover that half in big Symphony chocolate bars, and pour on the remainder of the batter. It makes a delicious layer of fudgy chocolate in the middle and is sooooo good - makes any brownie recipe 10x better.
I either use Pillsbury or Duncan Hines, but it has to be the chewy fudge ones. I then add 1 cup of chopped walnuts and half a bag of semi sweet chocolate chips. I always get compliments on them, which makes me laugh because they’re box brownies, but so good!!
Agree that the Ghiradelli mix, slightly underbaked, is the best brownie out there.
Late to this but Smitten Kitchen for everything, lol.
Her blondies are my favorite as Candreco mentioned, and I also love her brownie recipe.
There's not a lot of ingredients, they're super easy, and something about using all unsweetened chocolate makes them some of the richest brownies I've ever had! I've made a lot of brownie recipes and this is my new go-to every time.
For boxed mixes, bake as directed for 20 minutes. Take them out of the oven for 20 minutes then bake for the remaining time (usually 20-25 minutes). It makes them fully cooked but really fudgey.
