I know we don't typically do royal gossip here but the entire royal family - including Harry - is rushing to Balmoral Castle, where the queen is 'under medical supervision.'
It really does. All her kids - including Andrew? Charles and William 'already there.' I mean, based on their general PR protocol, it seems like there is a significant amount likelihood she's already gone?

I saw a picture of her from a day or two ago and she looked like she has definitely lost weight. She has been declining this year for sure, canceling events to rest on medical advice. She's had a good run if this is the end to make it to 96. I hope it is true that Harry is going to see her if that is what he wants. I had only heard that Charles and William were on their way and I wondered if Harry would be allowed.

Yes, Harry and Meghan are on their way according to the reports I've read.

I am glad that Harry and Meghan were already in the UK so they could get to Balmoral quickly to be with HMTQ.

I'm very stressed by this news. My dad is 84 and a total royalist, and I know that her death is going to hit him really hard. Prince Philip was hard enough.

I'm more shocked by this turn of events than I thought I'd be. Less so because she's 96, because I mean she's 96, but I really was starting to think Charles was never going to be king.

I was too. I was talking about this the other day with my Aunt.

Part of me hopes they skip to William but then I think about his kids and how it would be so hard on them to have him as king when they are so young.
The BBC website moved to a black banner (usually red). I think they'll make the announcement in the next hour. Apparently the protocol is that they do this at 6.

I'm glad Harry and Megan were already in Europe so they can get there to say their goodbyes. 96 years is a good run, and I'd imagine after losing Prince Phillip that it was just too much to bear. God save the Queen.

I’m a royal follower. We were in London in April and went to all the sites where the royals have been, their castles, etc.
This feels so momentous to me. Obviously she was 96 and it was going to happen. But we have very likely seen the last queen of our lifetimes. The next 3 in line will be king. God save the king has a different ring to it.

That's crazy to think about.
We were talking this morning how my parents, us, and my kids are all experiencing this change in monarchy for the first time (she ascended to the throne a few months before my dad was born). Which is also pretty crazy.
I feel extra lucky that we were in England for the platinum jubilee. We were at a beacon lighting celebration at a castle and the atmosphere was incredible.

I know soooooo little about this, but couldn't William make Kate a Queen? Didn't the Queen choose not to make Phillip a King?

She won’t be THE queen. She’ll be queen consort like Camilla will be.
sometimesrunner, Camilla and Kate can (and probably both will) be made Queen Consorts. I think dancingirl21 meant like a daughter getting the crown from a sitting monarch.
DH is in Scotland for work. I asked if anyone is talking about the queen and apparently that was the first he'd heard of all of this. And he's working with both Scottish and English people, so you'd think it would come up!

It's red in the UK, so wondering if it was just a test (I just checked)
