Consumer prices rose 7.1% in November from a year ago, the government said Tuesday. That was down sharply from 7.7% in October and a recent peak of 9.1% in June. It was the fifth straight decline.
My understanding is that that means it’s still going up at a rate of 7.1%. So prices are still going up. They were going up 7.7% a year, so it’s not going up as fast as it was, but it’s still going up. A lot. But maybe leveling out? I’m happy to be corrected though.
Many of my right-wing acquaintances are up in arms over how “this data is wrong because prices aren’t going back down” (which I guess is what FB memes tell them) and all of the talking heads on CNN have said that the data doesn’t show prices going down, just not going up as fast and hopefully leveling out.
Again, I’m not an expert and am happy to be corrected by someone smarter on this than I am!
6.29 a bag as of yesterday… and 6 bucks for 18 eggs.
We typically have had frozen fries once a week for a quick side, but I can’t stomach the price, so I just stopped buying them. Store brand is cheaper but not marked gluten free and my husband has Celiac.
Eating out… we have basically stopped because even quick service places are 60-70 dollars for five of us.
VillainV, I think it means they are still "up" but not "going up." As the rate of inflation decreases (like as with gas) some prices should fall, even if it never returns to whatever someone considers baseline. But yeah, I'm not an expert.

I just paid $5 for 40 sheets of white tissue paper (I mean gift tissue paper, not TP in case that isn’t clear). I could have gotten the larger package of 100 sheets for $8 buy I couldn’t make myself pay $8 for TISSUE PAPER
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
Everything? But what is annoying me mostly is activities. I wanted to go to this harry potter experience thing. It is 70pp! That is more than I paid to go to busch gardens or hershey! It is a flipping trail.
I will say, it was pretty magical but ONLY if you're super into HP. We all loved it and would probably spend it again, but it wasn't anything super special.
Ha. Yes I do want to do it but we are going to Harry Potter world next month so I feel like that is enough lol..
I picked up H’s favourite coffee today so he can have it for Christmas. It was the same price, but it used to be a 454g bag and now it’s 340g. So I’m getting 1/4 less now!

We have done all the HP travelling exhibits and waited hours to shop in the store in NYC when it opened. I would like to do this, but I can't afford to experience anything else!
I just spent $125 on 3 bags of groceries. I didn't even buy anything fancy! Unless you call fruit and vegetables "fancy". I see a lot of frozen peas in my future.
Same! I just got back from the store and left $150 poorer and only 4 bags!

Natural gas. Our bill for November was over $200. And we keep it at 66 during the day and 62 at night. I don’t recall it ever being this high before, even in the coldest months. November was not that cold.
So. I’m nervous about what this month will look like, especially with the polar vortex situation we are currently in.

So many things. Ice cream, butter, eggs, pizza. Utilities. I hate looking at my utility bills and seeing previous year comparisons. When I am paying 30% more even though I am using less gas or electricity it is really frustrating. Also groceries in general. I often get stuck at the grocery store just staring at something trying to decide how badly I want/need it. So far at least it hasn't been an actual issue of if I can afford it, but I have always had money anxiety and it's been causing me stress.
Haircuts. Supercuts is $24 for kids! I take DS(6.5) every 2 months.
I found a few years ago, when my boys actually started caring about their haircuts, it was nearly equivalent for them to go to my stylist. Still close, and I think it’s around the $24 you note above.
Most noticeably lately for me it was body wash. I was thinking it would be $3.50 or $4. Nope, $10.
Yes!! I wanted to put together a little makeup bag as a gift and it was like $10 for a bath bomb and $8 for mini hand lotion and $20 for little lip glosses. In the end I skipped it altogether ☹️

I saw strawberries today at $8 and kept walking!
I haven't bought strawberries in two months. I'm in Florida and one city over is the strawberry capital of the US and season starts in Feb. Typically strawberries go down to $1/lb, but I don't see that happening this year. We are have two hard freezes tonight and tomorrow and the fields will take some damage. I'm praying for the farmers that they can survive okay. Our citrus already took a huge hit with Hurricane Ian.

I bought DD some skin care to get her started at her request. For Cetaphil and CeraVe (2 moisturizers) in the store brand version, I spent $35. For a 10 year old who isn't all that close to puberty yet but just likes products.

The drugstore is jaw dropping. CeraVe is the only thing I can use on my face and I use Aussie spray for my hair. Those aren't wildly luxurious brands. I get things like tums and melatonin, nothung crazy but I can't believe it when they total it. It always seems like $40 too much.
For other soda drinkers, it's my one vice. My local gas station chain (Circle K) has a soda club where I can stop in for one any size drink for $5.99/month. Figured I pass it daily on way to school, and it's cheaper than the grocery store now.
It annoys H when we go out together on weekends bc I make him stop, but then I remind him of the look on his face when he saw how obnoxious my Dew is at the store.
The price of natural gas has tripled. I know there are reasons, but seeing our bill go up by over 225 dollars in a month was a shock. We keep the temperature at 66-68 during the day and 54 a night and only have a gas furnace and hot water heater. Per our bill last year was 2 dollars a therm and now it’s over 6. Edit and it’s going up again in a few days.
Here too. Our heating bill this month was awful and we barely even had the heat on because it hasn’t been that cold yet. I’m not pleased and horrified for people who can’t absorb the cost like we can - while it isn’t fun and will require moving things around in our budget it won’t make or break us. It’s too damn cold for people to have to worry about affording heat.
ETA: for me it’s fruit. My 2 year old eats so much fruit. He’s part fruit bat and a picky eater to boot so I indulge the 1000 varieties of fruit he will put away and I swear we spend like $100 on fruit every time we go to the grocery store.

Ditto gas stations for deals. That’s where DH gets his Monster drinks because they have better prices over anywhere else.
I drink pop like it's going out of style and seeing that price tag is hard to swallow.
I almost never drink soda anymore, but wanted to buy some recently for a pre-procedure, clear liquid diet. It was $8.99 for one 12 pack! I about passed out and decided to buy a 20 oz. bottle instead. I’ve paid more for less product, but this one made my jaw drop.
