starburst604, OMG he is so handsome. I know "hypoallergenic" hair dogs are all the rage now, but my heart just melts for furry dogs with big ears.
When my beagle was a puppy he couldn't catch food in his mouth. His lab uncle taught him real quick how to do it so he stopped missing out on cheese pieces. LOL
The only foods my dog won't eat are olives (solidarity---I hate them too) and over ripe bananas and watermelon (which also--solidarity doggo).
I second bread. Our male American Eskimo Dog looked at labs and said hold my beer while I eat this thing I shouldn't. We have a lot of experience in this area 😂 .
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
Seriously. Our chocolate lab ate EVERYTHING. I'm traumatized by pulling a baggie out of his butt. Our yellow lab chewed through a chain link kennel to escape.
The black lab is the bonehead that drank motor oil. My dad was changing the oil while we played fetch with the dog. He ran up and drank a ton of the oil in the pan. He drank a lot of water after, but was fine. No diarrhea or anything.
One of my favorite memories is when I walked in the kitchen and found my dog sitting by the trash like the goodest, good boy. So suspicious. Then I watched a chicken bone fly out of the trash can. The dog caught it, mid-air, and scarfed it down. I found the cat inside of the flip-top trash can, flinging chicken bones out to the dog.
We bought a Simple Human trash can shortly afterward.

Another recommendation for bread. I've got a lab and a lab mix. They've gotten into many things they shouldn't including (skip if you have a weak stomach) many dead birds and bunnies and things on the side of the road that my lab will eat in one bite before I've even processed what it is that she's picking up while we're out walking. The only thing I've really freaked out about are dead frogs (because toads are poisonous) and when my one got ahold of a corn cob on trash day once and wouldn't give it up because those are definitely not digestible (luckily she just wanted to play with it and didn't actually eat it and traded it for a treat and that was before we had our beast of a lab).
I laughed at our vet when she told us not to let them chew sticks or anything outside because it could upset their stomachs. Here is a pic of my mix with a huge branch from a pear tree that we eventually had to take out because it kept dropping branches across our driveway, that she thought was the best treat ever for her.

My lab had been on a diet for a while (and actually lost the weight...the vet was amazed and was like, I don't think I ever had a lab whose owner I told they needed to lose weight, and then they lost the weight!) but we made it a game to see what 'healthy' foods she would eat, and she will eat almost anything. She LOVES watermelon and almost any fruit. She literally comes running when she hears me cutting anything on the cutting board because she knows I'll usually give her a slice (I cut up apples for my kids' lunches every day and she loves those), but she eats cucumber, zucchini, broccoli, pear, peach, pineapple, strawberry, any berry actually, loves blueberries especially, green beans, etc. I think the only thing she really won't eat is lettuce that has nothing on it. I actually had to talk to the vet about increasing her food because she's been garbage can surfing and has resorted to eating my daughter's bloody-nose kleenexes, ugh.

OMG--yes, my dog licked a toad on a walk as a puppy (WTF) and before I could even process what was happening he looked possessed and was immediately vomiting. It was scary (but he was fine).
My dogs have been very good, but I had a cat that gnawed his way into a bag of cheezits that threw him into pancreatitis. Another cat ate sippy valves, which resulted in surgery. Sigh...
ETA: One of my dogs ate what we think were mushrooms in the yard, which the vet insisted we had given him marijuana. Luckily the procedure is the same, but damn if I didn't get pissed at the smug tech who then had to come apologize when the drug test we didn't authorize came back clean.

Our lab/collie mix once ate a take out container of chicken wings...and got the plastic lid off the container of BBQ sauce and licked that clean. I freaked out and called the vet and they said to monitor her and she ended up being fine. That was the one and only time she counter surfed. We find wrappers and crumbs on her dog bed all the time. I swear she scavengers when we leave the house. And then when she's done she goes and takes a nap on our bed...lol.
Mine will even eat things he doesn’t like the taste of because, FOOD. Like I dropped a pickle which he quickly snatched up and dropped after a moment, clearly put off by the taste. But then picked it up, took a bite, dropped and repeat until it was gone. Can’t leave perfectly good free food even if we don’t like it, I guess!
He must have heard "if it's free, I'll take three" to be instructions for the good life.

OMG....I can't even imagine this
It was so flipping cute/hilarious. She was just sitting there, on a paper plate. Our dog was maybe a year old? The cat was young and naughty too. She taught the old, stupid cat a lot of tricks. All three are gone now and thinking of this made me laugh out loud. Pets are the best and the worst, lol.

I bought my Simple Human trash can after my cat started knocking over my regular trash can after I went to bed and eating whatever scraps she could find. First I tried weighing the trash can down by filling an empty gallon container with water and putting it in the bottom (under the liner). The cat still managed to knock it over. I like to imagine her tackling it like a linebacker to get some old crusts of bread and apple cores...

I also laugh when people caution against eating sticks. Sticks are Dunkin’s LIFE. Though it did recently cause alarm when we were visiting friends about an hour away and he was playing in the yard with their dog. He suddenly started batting at his head with his paws, like dragging his head along the ground over and over. We thought he had some neuro issue and rushed to the e-vet! The tech opened his mouth and peered inside and he had a piece of stick lodged across the roof of his mouth and all the things he was doing was him trying to dislodge it! The just scooped it out and he was fine. They didn’t even charge us. Of course he tried to snatch the twig back after she removed it. 🙄
My old man lab (god rest his soul) once took it upon himself to eat an entire roll of paper towels, cardboard and all.
My brother's lab (from the same litter as our lab) ate an entire bag of Hershey Kisses, including the foil. That was a fun few days watching him pass all the sparkly foil.

When I was pregnant I had the worst heartburn and bought the biggest bottle of tums you could find. My cat went up on the counter and swatted it off and like 100 sorbet flavored tums fell on the ground and my golden cleaned them all up very quickly 🙄 That was another call to the vet. She was fine, but I was freaking out.

I have another one. I had to take Lucy to the vet for her physical and as I am driving there MH called and said he found an entire box of crayons that she had eaten upstairs in the third bedroom. DS was 12 at the time and didn't color and we have no clue where she found them. Sure enough I looked in her mouth and her teeth were a rainbow of colors. When I told the vet tech she laughed and said she would be having colorful poops for the next few days.

When I was a kid, one of our St. Bernards ate my jumbo box of crayons, the awesome ones with the built in sharpener. I was so pissed at her!! She drooled rainbow all day.
Sadie is a lab mix but her belly is 100% lab, and this thread is cracking me up. cjcouple, I hope your dog is ok, and I agree that being a lab, chances are everything will be fine.
Also I didn’t know the bread tip, so thank you for that.

My guy ate a toy that got stuck and required a five figure emergency surgery. Two days later, while still sedated, he ate a plate of chicken wing bones. Everything was fine, but now all bones go straight to the outside trash. He's four now and has definitely calmed down--this year he hasn't even met his deductible. The only thing that scares me now is raw salmon. There is something in them that can be deadly and I lived with dogs in the PacNW for 15+ years before I learned this.
He did try to eat the handrail on the dock one summer though!
I'm glad your dog is doing well so far and hope it stays that way. And that he settles down, but labs...

OMG...this scares me. I cannot afford a 5 figure surgery. :-(
Pet insurance. My H thought I was crazy for getting it on a new puppy with a health guarantee from the breeder but I was worried about accidents, not illness. The premiums have been under 300/yr and they've paid out about 15k for him being a derpy Labrador and doing derpy Labrador things. And hot spots.
My dog doesn't eat much that she shouldn't, but she did puke up a rock once. I think she accidentally swallowed it, though. She has free access to the fenced part of our yard via a dog door, and I have seen her pick up her toys or sticks before, fling then, and then "fetch" them.
