It was a worrisome night/morning he seems back to himself again. Very happy, playful and energetic. ❤️
-------------------
My dog pulled it out of trash. Anyone have experience? He must've done it before midnight. He did poop this morning and it was normal (size, texture color) and he is acting fine. Of course google is giving me all the dangers. Vet doesn't open until 8.
Did he eat bones? That's the part that is worrisome. Cooked bones are brittle, so they snap easily and create pointy little shards that will be dangerous to digest.
If he just ate the meat, skin, fat... he'll probably be just fine.

If he ate the bones, maybe give the vet a call and ask what to watch for. My lab growing up ate a whole turkey carcass, bones and all and was fine, typical lab stomach of steel.

Yes!! he ate almost the whole thing. I posted on FB and am getting some others that have had their dogs do the same and are fine. I'll still call vet but it's reassuring to know.

He's probably fine. Our dog has eaten a lot of chicken bones and has always passed them without issues. Like others said, monitor him for any signs of blockage or lethargy.
I grew up with labs and those dogs really do have stomachs of steel. Despite our best intentions, our big dummies always got into stuff. Motor oil, an entire bag of fireworks, washcloths...you name it, they ate it. We never had to take them in for complications.
He's probably fine. My dog swallowed a whole drumstick in one bite (like a freaking snake LOL) and the vet said we could give him soft food for a week, but to just monitor him. I have no idea how his little body processed a whole drumstick, but it did. Dog stomach acids are strong.
Vet said monitor him for a week and bring to ER if he is acting funny, stops eating or pooping, vomiting after he eats or has diarrhea.
I may call back amd ask for clarification on diarrhea because I was reading that a lot of rotisserie chicken may cause diarrhea anyway.
Or is it diarrhea mixed with other symptoms. ugh.
I would only bring him in for severe diarrhea or diarrhea and other symptoms. I mean...dogs get diarrhea from just switching food. That's not a great indicator. You know your dog. Trust yourself to know if things turn.

Yeah, that was kind of my thought. he's had diarrhea before for small changes in diet.

This happened to me… I called the vet and they said I should give her a full meal. If she puked it up, that meant there was a blockage and it was time to go to e-vet. They also said cooked bones are way easier to digest than raw. Rotisserie chickens are slow cooked for so long, those bones are probably the most brittle. Fingers crossed, I think you will be okay!

thanks!
He ate breakfast fine and while he did poop 2x already, they are fairly solid/normal

Also--labs are made for this. LOL
I belong to a FB group for yellow lab owners and the things they eat and survive!! Mine hasn’t eaten anything crazy yet, but he’s still young lol. He also doesn’t chew things. Tossed him a chicken nugget last night and I didn’t even see him swallow it. Mouth just snapped open and shut and the thing was gone.

When our dog ate chicken bones (and once a whole popsicle with the stick) our vet told us to give him lots of bread. I guess to help things pass. He was fine both times.
Our derp last week. A couple weeks ago he ate a stocking filled with god knows what that my neighbor had hanging in his garden (presumably as some sort of pest deterrent). His poop was an interesting color and he eventually puked it back up, fully intact. Labs.
Just chiming in to commiserate on the lab breed eating everything in site and having stomachs of steel.
Our labradoodle ate so many things as a puppy. An entire bulk package of raw frozen chicken breasts (packaging and all). We had to induce vomiting since he ate the plastic package. Socks, underwear, shoes, wood paneling, an almost full jar of peanut butter, a whole candy dish of wrapped chocolate, a pack of gum, his own poop, cat poop... the list goes on. Thankfully he outgrew it after the first few puppy years of his life and lived until almost 13 without any emergency vet visits.

Mine will even eat things he doesn’t like the taste of because, FOOD. Like I dropped a pickle which he quickly snatched up and dropped after a moment, clearly put off by the taste. But then picked it up, took a bite, dropped and repeat until it was gone. Can’t leave perfectly good free food even if we don’t like it, I guess!
Feed him a couple of slices of bread (whole wheat is best) today and tomorrow to help pad the edges of any splintered bones. It will also help keep things moving so you aren't playing the "is he obstructed or just digesting slowly today" game.
Also look for pacing and heavy breathing. The fat can cause pancreatitis if he got a lot of that.
Dogs are ridiculous. Our house was babyproofed for years before we had babies because of dumb hounds. Wood putty was the crowning achievement. Sorry!

This is so funny bc just last week DD1 dropped a pickle and our dog kept dropping it and making the doggie blech face but he powered through and ate it. We were laughing so hard we were crying.
