Why do teenagers wear the same three outfits is short rotation while they simultaneously can’t fit all of their clothes in their closet and refuse to ditch any of it ??
And somehow also always have a full load of dirty laundry?
I'm in the office for the third day in a row, and I am going to shank the person doing a phone call on speakerphone with the volume turned all the way up. I have to be in again tomorrow too, I can't remember the last time I was in more than three days total in a week.
Today is my first day of summer break (kids have been done since Thursday). I have a to-do list a mile long, but it's 10:48 AM and all I've done is eat breakfast and drink coffee...
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
They are not enrolled in local schools and he does not have copies of their birth certificates so he has requested copies. They have also never been vaccinated so the pedi is currently catching them up to enrollment standards. He can't enroll them in school until these items are checked off. I have sent him school info. They are in a different state than their mother or where they were born so it's all a big change. No summer program will accept them either and a lot are too pricey so my brother is having to take unpaid leave to watch them on days his fiancée works out of the house.
Sounds like a lot! As soon as they get in touch with the school and get them enrolled that should help a lot. Summer school normally is free and they will know about other services the kids can access.
I’m surprised they are being insistent on the children having a birth certificate before allowing them to enroll, in my experience their goal (and legal priority) is kids in school so they will let them in and then wait for the documentation. Are they aware of the situation?
How do I say this kindly? My brother is a dumbass and only takes action when it is an emergency situation. The website says if you don't have birth certs there are other ways. I haven't talked to the school and don't want to overwhelm my brother with questions. He was never a super hands on person. His wives always handled their children and were stay at home moms. He is having a huge wake up call on taking care of children and having a full time job. He had his children for a year in his care but he quit his job and was a stay at home dad while living on his 401k cash out(ref: dumbass), mil retirement, and va disability. We had to talk him down from quitting his job this time around again.
I'm really frustrated about DD2 being denied speech services. I think the process and standards for determination of eligibility suck.
DD1's brain MRI is today. I'm nervous and also very glad we're moving along with the process of elimination. I'm telling myself this is a step we have to take, a box we have to check, and everything is going to be ok.
A friend and I are debating between dinner Friday or Saturday. Friday, we'd go out, alone, but we'd only have a couple hours. Saturday, she'd come here for takeout while I'm home with my girls and my H is OOT. Going out would be really nice, but we'd have a lot more time to hang out if she came here. I think I'll suggest both.
My friend and I started watching Deadloche last night and there is Greyhound in it that looks just like my Zoe, complete with purple collar. Apparently the show has not reviewed well, but we enjoyed it. Definitely a bit of dark humor.
We're completely heartbroken and furious at the same time. Before MIL passed away, she planted a miniature Japanese Maple in our backyard. It's a solid 10' away from our neighbor's fence and is still very young (she planted it in 2018). It was maybe 4' tall and not very wide. Last night we were eating dinner and DH looks out the back door and gets this blank stare and almost went white like he saw a ghost. When I finally realized what he was looking at, I saw that the tree had appeared to have fallen over. We went out to investigate and noticed that it was actually cut down. We have cameras in our backyard, so we pulled up the footage and saw that our neighbor (the one with the fence) took her chainsaw to it, then just left it. DH went over to ask her why she cut it down and she immediately became defensive and said it was ruining her fence (spoiler alert, it was not). DH tried explaining the significance of the tree and that it wouldn't get much bigger than it is, but she refused to listen and slammed the door in our faces. I feel horribly for DH. It was such a beautiful reminder of his mom.
Can you sue her? Apparently in my state you can sue someone for cutting down a tree on your property. That won't undo the emotional damage, but it would at least be some payback to your awful neighbor.

Holy shit!!!! I can't believe she did that. That's trespassing and vandalism and you have it on camera. I think you could press charges or take her to small claims court if you wanted to. Those trees are expensive!
Obviously it can't be replaced sentimentally, I'm so sorry she did that to you. I would be so mad!!!!

Oh no, that's awful! I wonder if there is any chance of it growing back if she didn't remove the stump? I don't know enough about trees to have much insight though.

We filed a police report last night and they suggested we call the Law Director to see what our next steps are. We definitely intend to sue and press charges for trespassing, vandalism, and destruction of personal property.

I am in an anxiety spiral today and cannot for the life of me focus on anything. I don't know what's up but it is both frustrating and unpleasant, especially since I got up and did a stretching routine today that *should* have been relaxing. Instead I feel like I want to run out a bunch of nerves.
I woke up right before 5am this morning. I gave up on sleep at 5:30am and rode my exercise bike for 40 minutes. So I'm exhausted, however I fit my exercise in. Silver lining I guess. I'm on my 3rd iced coffee of the day though. I freeze leftover coffee in ice cube trays everyday and presto easy iced coffee at home. I love it.
It's DS' first day of summer break. Only 3.5 weeks to fill until he has half day lego camps for most of July and August.
mel779 - my face right now! What is wrong with her!! Have y’all had issues with her before?
My much adored MIL passed away and gifted us so many wonderful things throughout the years. I would be LIVID. And my DH would probably cry.
We have had issues with her in the past. The most notable was DS2's 5th birthday party. We had it on a Sunday at 2:00pm out in our backyard. There were probably 10 kids (we have a big family) all playing/screaming (we had water sprinklers and water balloons) and she called the cops because we were being too loud. She's also yelled over her fence at us before when we've been grilling and it's "too smoky" and she doesn't like the smell of what we're grilling. She's super aggressive anytime we try to talk with her about anything. She's just a miserable human being.

Uhhhh, I predict no one will post anything more shocking than this today mel. I'd press charges, but you know more and you've got to do what feels right to you. That said I'm so sorry about your special tree. We have one of my late mil's plants and it brings us joy to see it daily and to take care of it. We give starts to all the nieces and nephews when they get their first homes. I'm dumb about trees, but since this just happened can you get some fresh cuttings and propagate them?
Edit: mel just saw that you are pressing charges, good! Please keep us updated. The fact that she wasn't immediately sheepish and apologetic says it all though trespassing and cutting down someone else's tree is so out there, it is probably too much to expect typical responses.
I have to take my 06 Corolla in for an inspection here at 1. I am anxious hoping that not much needs done to it. It seems to be running fine, but realistically it's old and I'm sure it will need something. At least I just got new tires a month ago so I'm covered there. Fingers crossed.

Minnesota has its very own wildfire now, in the Superior National Forest.
It's my last day of work for the week and I won't be back until Tuesday. Of course that means today is dragging. Tomorrow while DH is at work I have to go get the brakes replaced on my car, then go pick up our friend who is dog-sitting for us while we're up north for our annual friends cabin weekend. I don't think the weather is going to be perfect for a weekend on the lake, but it should be good enough.
mel I am not sure if this would work but we have a young Japanese maple in my front yard growing up and my sister ran it over with a big wheels and my dad wrapped it and put posts around it and it ended up growing back together. No idea if that works if it’s cut but it worked when it was cracked and fully knocked over. Might be worth looking into. I’m sorry your neighbor sucks, I’m glad you are pressing charges she sounds terrible.
Following on from the kids Sports thread, I need to brag about my kid. He is a swimmer, he enjoys it and has lots of friends who do it. He told me that 'when I swim, I dont think of anything' which I love as he has some anxiety. So he swims 3x per week and I say 'well done' - nothing like his super competitive friends!
At the swim meet this weekend, he got a huge PB in his 50m breast - which means he made the qualifying time to represent the country in a regional swim meet this summer! It is unlikely he will make the national team as others kids have qualifying times in several strokes, but I am still so proud of him. The meet is held in our city so we will be able to go and watch his friends no matter what.
That's terrible, mel - definitely grab some cuttings and some rooting hormone to help, you should have a dozen replacements starting to grow in a few weeks.
I'm sorry you have such an awful neighbor situation, I know how stressful that can be.
