I’m so freaking tired of this. I spent hours in lockdown yesterday during an active shooter event. This is the second time in four years that I’ve been in close proximity to an active shooting event. I’m so thankful that I wasn’t in immediate danger either time. But as I was locked down with students and colleagues, we were all frantically trying to make sure our friends and other students were safe, worried sick about them. Having been through it before (!!!) I was the one with the wherewithal to remind everyone else to let their families know they were safe BEFORE it got picked up by national news. I’m so glad that we all knew what to do to stay safe, but I’m so freaking angry that some of that comes from the real-world experience of having lived through it before.
VillainV I’m so sorry. It’s unfathomable that this is where we are. I’m sorry it happened before and again. There really are no words. I’m glad you and your colleagues and students were safe.
For maybe a bit of lightheartedness this morning, our power was out, so I went to check the pool and noticed 2 frogs just swimming around. One gave me a run for my money by diving down to the bottom of the deep end. The second one kept jumping out of the skimmer and at one point jumped over E's head, causing her to shriek.
I had no idea how many frogs we had until we got a pool. We even have one of those pads to help them get back out.
ETA: Power came back on, thankfully. I did not want to go into the office today.
VillainV, I'm so sorry. The 10 year anniversary of the active shooter in my office is coming up, and it's still always in the back of my mind. First-hand experiences like this are a heavy burden.
That had to be terrifying, VillainV. I'm glad you're safe, as well as the students and your colleagues.
Someone gave us an estimate on putting in a stamped concrete patio under the deck and the cost came in at double what I thought it would. I was telling my hair stylist last week and she recommended someone she has used several times. He came over the other day and gave us a quote and it was MUCH better; more in line w/ what I was expecting. We're kind of stuck now on what to do. We could afford to have it put in now, but I feel like we've been putting a lot of $$$ into the house lately and it would be nice to not have some kind of project in the works. If we were to wait until the spring, I'm sure there will be a bit of an increase just naturally from inflation. So, we're trying to decide if we should just do it now and maybe forego some other things we were planning (but were not necessary) or if we should take a chance and hold off.

Something was severely off kilter last night. I had one drink (maybe 1.5 drinks) with dinner. I timed my drink with enough of a time lapse that I could take my regular nighttime Rx’s without any serious interactions.
I thought the most logical interactions would make me overly tired but the opposite occurred. I forced myself to finally rest at 4am (waking up every 25-45 min, average of 30) tossed and turned, couldn’t get comfortable and waking up bright eyed at 9am. And I feel incredibly well rested. Maybe I’m too arrogant and will crash this afternoon but it’s like I’m living in bizarre-o world.
@psugrad - another thing to consider is if you wait for spring, you're going to be competing with many other people who want to put a patio in. At this time of year, I'd guess demand isn't as high. When I put my paver patio in a couple of years ago, some companies had fully booked their year by mid-March. If you have someone that can do that work soon and you can afford to do it, I'd lean towards doing it now.
VillainV, that sounds terrible to live through once, much less twice.
I'm so sorry that you had to go through that VillainV, it must have been terrifying.
I filed for, and was awarded child support from exH. It's not an insignificant amount and I know that it will create a hardship for him and I don't care. Anyway, he filed an Appeal claiming that I make more money than him - spoiler alert, I don't, and even if I did, he still would owe me child support because I have primary custody. He is also claiming that he didn't get to submit his evidence - spoiler alert #2, he did, he actually submitted it all beforehand because he appeared for the hearing over the telephone. So of course, because he's appealing, they are not changing his garnishment, so I'm not getting any money. I don't actually "need" the money, and was just going to put it directly into my savings to help pay for whatever kid stuff comes up, but it's still so frustrating that he is playing the system yet again to the detriment of our kids.
We give Ds1 and DS2 the choice of a party or the money we would spend on a party. Ds1 always picks the money and DS2 always picks the party. DS2s birthday is coming up and I was really hoping he would pick the money this time since I don’t want to do a party but alas he wants to have the bubble/foam truck come 😂

VillainV, I'm sorry, what a scary experience. Glad you are all safe and ok. I have a few teacher friends, and one was just telling me about training they had last week on a new door stopper that was installed in all the classrooms this year (for active shooter situations). It's just sad that this is what has to be done to be safe nowdays.
I was so proud of myself this morning - I actually packed my lunch to bring to work, instead of just buying lunch at the cafeteria. Trying to be better about bringing food from home to save a little money.
Last night DD and I ran a few errands. We drove past a gas station a mile from our house, and it was $0.22 cheaper per gallon than the gas station right by our house. Crazy! Made me a little mad, though, because the two stations are owned by the same company.

Currently, I cannot escape ads for Skyrizi. I am here for psoriasis relief for folks who have it, but would die inside 10,000 deaths if I had to be all "I'd like some SKYRIZI please." It sounds like the name of a failed mid-90s crunk rapper.

The semi-broken shower door has now led to us getting estimates for a bathroom remodel. We talked about this probably a year ago but decided to hold off and do some updates ourselves. Now DH is full steam ahead and seems to be put off by it. Like, we wanted to do this project a year ago and now we are and you're mad? I don't understand him sometimes.

I forget who suggested pouring boiling water over the underground wasp nest, but thank you, it worked! Did it last night once it was totally dark and none of them were buzzing around. This morning, no more murder wasps. Success!
This morning I put all of DD's practices for hockey, town soccer and club soccer into our calendars. WTF have we gotten ourselves into? Why do all three practice only on Mon, Thurs & Fri? This is not even including the weekend games, we don't know the times for any of those yet. Safe to say she's going to have to miss some practices for each team and I don't think she's going to like missing hockey, so we hope she'll decide one year of club soccer is enough and next year just play the town soccer and hockey (possibly club).
VillainV, I am so sorry you went through that - twice. WTF. Glad you were ok, but what a ridiculous thing to have to deal with. Sadly I had to go hunting on the NYT site to figure out what shooting you were even talking about since I hadn't heard anything. It's so common it's not even big news anymore.
We are just bleeding money this month. We are getting a new section of fence installed on Thursday, which is required because it's basically falling down. On top of paying tuition (since reimbursement went away with my job), some necessary car maintenance, and getting a new couch this month, we are talking thousands of dollars coming out of savings. I am crossing my fingers that that's it for the year with big expenses. At least most of the stuff we have planned for fall is already paid for, I guess.
Our new couch was definitely worth cutting back on other stuff for, though - my lower back already feels a lot better than it did from sitting on our old couch!

Autism eval day for DS. It’s a two hour drive away, and a three hour appointment. So a looooong day.
Mind if weird having an appointment where I don’t feel like I want to go over and over and over appropriate behavior the whole drive there. I want him to be…. Himself. Usually we act out appointments beforehand to “practice”

I read an article on drug naming once and it was pretty interesting. It's a very involved process and has to be approved by multiple groups. Names have to be unique so they aren't confused for other drugs, need to be same name for the world so doctors all over are on the same page when a drug is mentioned, you can't use the drug company name in it for advertising etc. It was a lot, but yes, some of these names are out there.

Good point, I've thought about that as well. But maybe I could ask about getting on his early spring schedule now and hopefully not compete with as many jobs he may have, but if he's booked for the spring and has an opening now then it probably makes sense to just do it.

Naming is SO hard. In my current job we sometimes have to come up with a new name for a wine, so it's easier than medicines because there aren't all those restrictions, and even so between needing something unique but that makes sense and sounds good and isn't boring and can be patented and works in different markets and and and etc. there can be literally hundreds of suggestions before you get to something useable.

So help me, if I see a delicious Chilean chardonnay on a shelf called Winerizi, I will hunt you down.

I am sick of how catchy some of their jingles are. Now I have "nothing is everything" running through my head, thanks.
I was working on something recently that had me saying "A1c" a bunch of times and every time I thought "down with rebelsis" (I'm sure I spelled that wrong).
Our windows all got put in yesterday, which is pretty suprising. Now they do the outside work. I decided to go with a black wrap and I hope I don't regret it lol. I am a little bit nervous. It is a bolder choice than white.
Because we had to move a ton of furniture, I have been deep cleaning since 6 am. Might as well scrub floors that are normally covered up by furniture, condition all my hardwood, wash my curtains etc etc etc etc. The workers are now here so I need to stop so I don't freak them out as they are on the other side of window doing their thing lol.
