TGIF!! It's been a long week.
My friend is coming this weekend, and I'm excited, but now I'm in a rush to clean the house. Funny enough friend asked if anyone else was coming as we often have 1 - 2 weekends a year at my house with friends from college. This time I didn't want to invite a lot of people as this friend wasn't sure if they were coming. Again thankfully this friend is easy, so we should have fun without having to make a huge itinerary.
Also, my (cheapo) under the desk pedal exerciser display broke. Anyone have a recommendation of one you like? I'm thinking of upgrading to something that holds your whole foot, maybe a bigger range. Are they worth $100+? I plan to use the one I have now without monitoring the mileage, just had been thinking of upgrading since I've been using it so much anyway. Have a soft goal of up to 15 miles a week/3 miles a day if I can.
I only have one meeting today, and its one I scheduled. I just wanna power through and get to the long weekend.
Our botanical garden is hosting the annual Japanese Festival this weekend. DD and I are really pumped about it (DD wants to dress in cosplay) but H and DS are a little more meh about it. I'm playing the "family time" card though and making them both come along. Partially because, well, family time, but mostly because I don't want to deal with parking on my own.
I'm off today, flexing time from working this past Sunday and I purposefully did NOT make myself a to do list for today like I'd normally do because I've been going 100 miles an hour over the past couple of weeks with kid going back to school and the start of the semester at work for me and I'm excited to do a whole lot of nothing today. The only thing that HAS to be done before tomorrow evening is getting the guest room / play room neatened up because MIL is coming to stay and needs someplace to sleep without tripping over a bunch of stuff. I'll get kid to help so it should be quick work.
Our final check from insurance for hail storm damage should arrive today - the end is in sight for us with all of this and I'm happy. Still waiting for my truck to be done, it's been at the body shop for 2 weeks and will probably be there for a couple more weeks. Meanwhile so many of our neighbors are still waiting for any work to be done.
I've really been wanting pancakes lately for some reason. I would be the only one to eat them because H won't eat them because it's too many carbs and kid thinks "Aunt C's are better" (LOL) so I haven't made them but this might be the weekend for them and I'll just enjoy them by myself!
Yesterday I got a vaccine and the injection site was covered up with a strip of tape.
It was nice out when I got back so I changed and read in my hammock until dinner. Why did I forget to put sunscreen on the top half of my arm before putting on a tank top? Now I have this paler rectangle on my upper arm that is super obvious. Back to sleeves I go lol

I'm so glad it's Friday! I had time this morning to stop for breakfast so I drove through Wendy's. Now I feel like there's a brick in my stomach. Blah.
I used comp time from the insane hours I worked recently to take today off. It's a gorgeous day. My only plan is to pick up pizza from the fancy place nearby for lunch.

How do I find out if a procedure is covered by my insurance? I had to do this once before and I had to make 6 phone calls so I know I did it wrong. It’s a breast MRI ordered by my Obgyn due to breast density and my lifetime chance of getting breast cancer being high. I have the sheet that says why he ordered it, but I want to verify my insurance is covering it before I go (sept 26). Do I call the MRI place? Or my insurance?

I had it firmly in my mind that Labor Day was NEXT weekend. And that my vacation is in two weeks. Nope, as I realized yesterday around noon. So now I'm in "on no, I need lists for vacation" mode.
Oh, and I'm planning fake data for a demo database, coming up with fake names and fake addresses and stuff. It's actually a fun, "Friday before the holiday I forgot" activity.
My across-the-hall coworker, who felt totally fine yesterday and was in my office extensively throughout the day, developed a sudden headache and fever overnight. She tested this morning and has Covid. I still somehow haven’t gotten it but this will probably be a pretty good test… 😬
I knew today was going to be a long day and I wouldn't have a chance to put in my usual grocery order for Saturday morning pick up, so I did it last night. Except I picked a timeslot the next morning out of habit, so my order is actually for today while I'm stuck in a meeting. Luckily DH opted to WFH today so he's going to get them. Oops.
We've got reclining seats for Oppenheimer/Barbie later this afternoon, and not going to lie, I may nap a little during Oppenheimer.

Call your insurance company. You shouldn’t have any problems, but it’s always good to double check.

Last night dh asked if we had any plans this weekend. I said no, and asked if he had Monday off. He said yes. I said nice, because with his job you never know with minor holidays, and thought he was about to suggest we do something fun this weekend. Then he said, 'I have some work I need to do this weekend though. It should only take a couple of hours though.' Womp womp. At least I made it through this stressful week.

I have to spend this weekend working on getting back to school year sleep hours. I haven’t woken up before 9:30-10 more than a handful of times since school ended in June, and now I’ll be back to getting up at 6:45, so this will be rough lol! The few days I actually had to be up early I ended up with a raging headache all day, so I know I have to spend the time to adjust before school starts next Thursday or I’ll really regret it. Next Thursday is also my first day of classes so I have to be on my game (returning to school for the first time since grad school).
I tried convincing my boss to "close" the office early today, meaning, let everyone go home early and finish up their day remotely. It's a ghost town around here and maybe 10 of the 30+ office staff are in today. He just said "we'll see" and walked away. I'm annoyed.
But, I flex time on Fridays and got to work at 5:00am, so I can leave at 2:00. I was more looking out for the other people that have to stay till 4:00.
The last couple of days have been so nice out! I can't believe that starting on Sunday we are going to have mid to upper 90s for about 7 days straight. It's not fair to tease fall with this beautiful weather and then go back to July weather!
I have to test something at work this afternoon and I still need to set most of it up. I sent an email to my test group a little while ago confirming that we're still doing it, and I really hope they email back and say no. Lol. I just really don't feel like it today, though it will be good to get done. But the Friday before a holiday weekend, especially when the weather is nice, is a tough day to focus. I'm far more in the mood to just do some catch up on simple tasks that don't take long, since that seems more aligned with my current attention span.

This weekend is pretty low key. I have a half day today, so I see myself spending some time in the hammock and on the pier. SO has to pick up his son from WVU today (8 hour round trip, oof) but hopefully we can have a fun day on the boat tomorrow. Sunday we're meeting my parents for dinner halfway between us. Other than that, nothing planned. The weather is supposed to be GORGEOUS.
I'm really grumpy that I signed up to volunteer this afternoon. It's for an excellent cause and it's one of those volunteer things where you really see the impact of what you did...but I just want to laze around the house.
I made breakfast for son and I. I made him tea and coffee for me. I carried it all out on a breakfast tray and I cut a rose off the bush and stuck it in a bud vase and we ate in the screened gazebo. I can't believe how cool it is. It is usually unbearably hot and humid at this time, I am loving this breeze. Even the crazy dog got enough running and actually lay down. Son said he felt rich.
DH is at work and said he was kind of jealous. The sad thing is, if he were home he would have sat for 5 minutes and then just vocalized his lists of things to do and pointed out whatever wasn't right (in his mind). It is impossible to relax around him and I'm not sorry we didn't have to listen to it this morning.

sunshineluv, I thought in theory that the place scheduling the test was supposed to also confirm it's covered before scheduling, at least that's what they say they do for my dad...but he's on medicare (over 65), so maybe that's different? Ugh wishing you as few phone calls as possible luck.
Wallflower, that sounds kind of fun. I can't remember if I shared this story. My brother used to order free stickers from Airwalk (1-800-Airwalk) back in the 90's. He figured out that they'd eventually stop sending to the same person, so he started putting in fake names. Kind of shame on me that I thought he made up the name Cory Feldman when Cory got stickers. It took me until college watching "Stand By Me" for the first time to know Cory Feldman was a real person. Anyway I lead a pretty sheltered childhood, lol.
Also my brother has done that kind of testing. I had to call once in an emergency situation and he forgot his IP or something was set like he was working in Africa, so he couldn't figure out why he couldn't find the number for the hospital a state away. All of this goes way over my head, but it was kind of neat/give you a laugh in a stressful situation.
Oh and I texted another friend after all that, and they're trying to come this weekend! I joke that the 1 - 2 weekends a year at my house are like Camp Nowhere. Hoping for a brewery, making smores in the firepit, and (re-) watching Cobra Kai as one of my friends doesn't have Netflix so they wait for these weekends, lol.
I’m not sure what I want to do. DD2 has cheer from 5-6 tonight. I’m thinking we’ll go down to the river to walk a bit and then get ice cream. But I also don’t want to get dressed.
This morning I had the worst dream where I discovered I left my new job to go back to work at my toxic last job workplace. I was so pissed off about it and was trying to figure out how to fix it. No one was able to give sound advice and I had to be in the same room as my terrible supervisors.
I don't have a half day today, but we do get out early on the day before a holiday/holiday weekend, so I'm done at 1, which works for me. I have to do a small Costco run and then maybe see if I can find something to wear on my date this weekend since I have some Kohl's cash burning a hole in my pocket.
