I talked to the PA yesterday and I am feeling much better about it. Baseline shows no cancer anywhere else and they’ll test the tumor afterwards for odds of reoccurrence.
However, it sounds like they are likely going to cut me open from breastbone to navel right from the start to be sure they can get in there well enough to get the tumor out. I don’t care about the size of the scar, but the recovery worries me.
My mom is coming up for 2 weeks. I wish she would stay another week, but we can always push her flight back if I still need help. Otherwise, I told my dad he’ll have to come over every day to check on me 🤣
Ugh, DS asked for some turkey lunch meat. I buy those Oscar Mayer little tubs of turkey. I know they aren't as good as from the deli but they last longer and are cheaper. Anyway, I gave him the tub to snack on b/c it just had a few slices left. It looked fine at first glance. A few minutes later he called me over to ask "what was the white stuff on the bottom of the turkey" and I noticed the bottom of the turkey, like the last couple slices i the container, was kind of slimy. It smelled okay, I think. I didn't taste it but threw it in the garbage. He said he only ate once slice. He's going to get sick, isn't he
I bought some premade turkey london broil a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was just bad, but not BAD. By the end I knew but figured I'd be okay. I was so sick. Can he throw it up? If not, warn him. It did not come out the end I thought it would and if there hadn't been a bathroom nearby ... I can't even think about it. It took about 24 hours to hit.
You weren’t on a Delta flight that had to return to Atlanta were you?
I'm going to try my hand at making jam today or tomorrow. Most likely tomorrow since I need to go to a third grocery store in search of pork butt (not for the jam!). I have never been unable to source pork butt 😕
Could pork butt be called something else where you live? I’ve also seen it labeled Boston Butt, picnic roast and generically as pork shoulder.
We have to empty out the kitchen today for demo Monday. I want to throw it all awayyyyy.
I highly recommend actually doing that. Anything you use rarely and not for a specific thing, anything worn out, lay out all your spatulas etc for non needed duplicates and worn out shit, appliances (like a blender or a second or third waffle maker) that you just have but won’t use, etc etc etc. Not only will you have a better idea of what you have, but what you need to replace with better quality stuff when you’re done.

So, i talked DD into going to the dog park with me, so that was nice. We figured out some kitchen strategies while walking by and talking, so I’m pleased with that. Then when we came back, she informed me that since we were driving her friend and the friend’s mom, we really should clean out the car. So we did that. Now I’m chilling for a sec. Lol.
DH & DS are working on his room. Took out the loft bed, and are assembling the new bed. DD and I are going to grab makeup with her friend, and then we have a list of chores ourselves.
I made a seemingly overwhelming list of chores to get done, but we are plugging away at it (at a great pace!!) and I think it will be good/done by the end of the weekend. I’m very happy!!
Took Stella on a slightly longer than usual walk this morning (3.5 miles) since it was cooler out (77 instead of 90 lol).
I replaced the toilet seat in our primary bathroom because apparently just replacing a hinge isn’t really a thing and the seat was only $40 so 🤷🏼♀️
Now I’m watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 because I saw that the third movie came out this weekend and I realized I’ve never even seen the second. I want to watch the women’s US Open final after this.
I’m gonna get dinner from my favorite Indian restaurant one more time before H gets back.
I went to Costco, Trader Joes, Ulta, and a liquor store today and spent almost half my paycheck. Why is everything so expensive? A lot of the stuff I bought I won't have to buy again for months - we were just running low on a lot - but even so, ugh. I am really trying to eat more healthfully and it's sad that that costs so much. I mean it's not like we were eating all junk before, I'm just adding additional fruits/veggies/whole grains.
I also, I had a $10 off $50 coupon for Ulta that excluded like 80% of what they sell, which made me kind of laugh but also how annoying. What's the point?
Also we got up at 7:30 this morning to watch Liverpool soccer, but then realized they don't play this week and the time I saw online was for NEXT Saturday. So today has been kind of a fail so far, but the good news is that I have no plans the rest of the day other than watching college football and relaxing.
sweetchix, I'm glad you have date AND that it sounds really promising that surgery will take care of it! I am sure it sucks to have to wait at all, but this month will fly by!

My retired mother is going to be the death of me. She wants to go on vacation. With me. Which great we’ll have fun. Except. She has no concept of what my work schedule is like. And she can’t comprehend that September and October are my busy season. And December, when I could go, might be too cold at her desired southern beach location to wear shorts. Lol.
We’ll figure it out, but it’s like now that she’s retired she’s completely forgotten how working works. Haha

it's usually just pork butt, but I've seen smaller portions priced up and labeled pork shoulder. The store I just came back from had a good one. So now meal planning for next week is done AND I don't have to leave the house tomorrow 🤗
The jam/muffins definitely aren't happening today.
I watch too many crime shows. A man just purchased a plastic chest and rope for the yard sale. My first thought was to sneak a picture of his face. Then he told us his name when another person shopping asked. I need to stop listening to crime podcast
Hopefully he just wanted it for a Halloween decoration or something fun like that lol.
We are halfway through our crazy weekend, and dd's wrist and head felt better today, so she went to soccer instead of wanting to go get x-rays, so I'm calling it a win. Now just to go to ds's band competition an hour away, pick him up from the school when he gets home from that tonight, and get him through his confirmation retreat tomorrow.

Once I told my dad we were choosing X family event instead of Y family event or both because of the cost to fly and limited leave days. He suggested we just drive to both instead. They were each 12 hours from my house, adding a full day on either side for travel. That only solves one problem, bub. He was all "oh, yeah." 🙄

The people who live caddy corner behind us burned a bonfire all day yesterday and are doing the same today. It’s beautiful, sunny and 75. My whole house smells like it and it’s making me sick. They loaded up a ton of wood and I’m worried they’re going to do this every day all fall long. They are both retired and sometimes sit out there listening to music and smoking while it burns but other times, they go inside for long stretches and keep it burning. We aren’t in a rural area: all our yards are super close together.
I really don’t mind someone having a fire at night occasionally when it’s chilly. I do think it’s extra to burn it all the live long day every day when you aren’t even out there to enjoy it the whole time. The smell of it kind of turns my stomach and makes my allergies go crazy. We can’t even enjoy sitting in our yard during the day. They start it when they get up and burn it til they go to bed.
I’m not saying anything to them, just bitching here lol.
We've been kind of screwing around this morning/early afternoon, and in a little bit we're going to head north and go to the Mukilteo Lighthouse Fest. I love lighthouses, and I love an excuse to eat random fair food. We haven't been before, so I hope it's fun.
Then tonight we're just going to have snacky dinner, and watch Dungeons and Dragons.

Does your area have burning restrictions? Most do, especially when houses are close together. I’d do some googling…

I have called the fire department on my neighbors for less. Check the burn rules in your area. For me it was easy because the neighbors were burning yard waste during a burn ban. That's an immediate hard stop - no excuses. I imagine leaving a fire unattended would be similar. I called the fire department twice on them before they stopped. The fire department knew who I was but I asked to remain anonymous so they never came to my door.

I looked up burn restrictions for my city. You aren’t allowed open burning of leaves or debris (I don’t think they are burning anything). You are allowed recreational burning like bonfires if you obtain a $10 permit from the fire department.
Both Gauff and Sabalenka stand with their legs REALLY wide apart while the other one is getting ready to serve and I do not understand why because they always adjust back to a more agile stance by the time the serve actually happens. Are they stretching or something? Also, Sabalenka is so loud.

D3 started baseball today on a league for kids with disabilities. It was so much fun seeing all the kids play. She was all smiles at the end.
One of the players, a little boy with cerebral palsy (I assume because he had on AFOs and walked like my daughter who also has CP did at the age) was such a ham. At one point, he hit the ball half way to 1st base stopped and did a few push ups.

We just got home from a birthday party for DS's bff from daycare. They haven't seen each other in a few months and their reunion was so darn cute. The party was their large extended family and us, so it wasn't the typical boring kid's party haha.
I shed a little tear at the end of the U.S. Open. It was so sweet.
We spent most of the day at the beach and I suspect it will be the last time this year. DD2 had so much fun boogie boarding that we talked about surf lessons next year. She also shared a lot with me about her plans for the future; apparently she wants to be an ad executive (she thinks Dre Johnson's ad agency on Blackish looks so cool), she's going to share an apartment with her BFF, and she wants to have two dogs named Boba and Sophie.
We're at the festival and I'm stuffing myself with overpriced food. So far I've eaten half a sushi burrito (meh), half a Korean cheese dog (yay!), and 90% of a waffle on a stick with almonds and dark chocolate (because my H is a fool who only wanted a bite. Now I have to go find him without first eating the rest of his food on a stick because he wandered away to take a phone call.
I've already been planning my Halloween costume and I've been racking my brain to find a loose wonder woman t-shirt. I remembered Target today. Target men's graphic shirts fit me how I like. So I bought a shirt and a Wonder Woman tiara that says it has a velcro closure. My head is very small so we'll see if it works. I found wonder woman earring too. Put those with dark blue jeans that I already own and I'm good to go. DS7 will be another DC super hero (most likely Batman, Superman or Flash) so we can go together.
Today has been pretty relaxing. We finished the laundry that I started Friday night and DH made breakfast. We watched some College ball and then went to a delicious buffet for a late lunch.
Can someone explain to me the appeal of those huge hidden walk in pantries? Unless you have a dozen kids, how are you storing that much food and not having it spoil?

I started grad school yesterday and I’m feeling very overwhelmed today. Everything is taking forever right now because it’s been so long since I had to APA format anything
DH was going to remodel/switch the laundry room and a closet to make me an office area. His summer got really awful at work so that didn’t happen. So hiding in the bedroom or working at the kitchen table seem to be my only choices and I don’t like either.

I think people can do a lot of food prep in them, keeping the main part of the kitchen looking clean and neat. Seems like a waste to me, but I can see the appeal for people who entertain a lot or for influencers who want their house to look pristine all the time.

Microsoft Word will do APA for you (and a few other formats). You enter the source info and it does the rest.
