NewGirlNic, this is my neighbor too, and she just goes on and on. She also sometimes (very lightly) complains about my yard; we have a HUGE sycamore tree that sheds bark when it's hot and obviously drops a ton of leaves in the fall and she is like, obsessed with keeping her yard free of debris. She's never asked me to do anything, just mentioned how annoying it is, which I get. But I'm not spending 6K to cut down a perfectly fine tree just b/c you are obsessed with leaves.
She's also obsessed with parking her car in the exact same spot behind our two cars (we park on the street) and in the winter if we're slightly in her spot (we try not to be) for some reason, she'll ask us to move up b/c "shes afraid of falling on the sidewalk" so I guess she needs the most minimal walk from her door to the car.
Clearly, I have a lot of grievances haha.
She's had some weird/negative interactions with my other neighbors so I kind of want to stay on her good side though, lol.

deadwing, the funny thing is, she thinks the neighbors on the other side of her are weird so she put up a privacy fence on that side so they can't see her, but she likes our family so she didn't do that on our side. Sob.

Figure out what she doesn't like about the other neighbor and emulate it? Maybe she'll fence you off, too!
I'm in a "discussion" on our Cheer parent Band app regarding the kids being able to wear cheer uniforms to school Friday and it's absolutely ridiculous! First they said they had to wear a shirt under their vest because of dress code but I chimed in with "nope! as long as the straps are more than 2 inches wide they're ok" thinking we're done. I even said "on page 21 of the handbook" (because I searched the policy and read before I replied like an adult) so they could have also read it - but they clearly did not because then they said "oops edit - they can wear vest but not the skirt - they have to wear leggings because the skirt violates" OMG - read the policy that I just gave you the page number to because NO THE SKIRT DOESN'T!
So I sit on it for a little while and I've got other parents messaging me saying they agree and I'm correct, etc. thinking another parent would chime in saying it doesn't but no one does so I sent that too. So I probably look obnoxious but I don't care. I mean if the uniform violates school dress code why do they wear them for the games - it makes no sense to me? The idea for the kids to wear the uniforms didn't even come from the Parents! But everyone for sure knows how I feel about dress codes LOL Ultimately I'm just going to let my kid wear whichever pieces of the uniform they want because it's not like the Coach is going to be at school but at least know the policy before you try to enforce it!
sameoldstory shopgirl07 I donāt have any good photos from yesterday or today. I was so nervous about completing the adoption and getting her home safe and initially acclimated that I didnāt remember to take pics, but here she is in her rescue org photo.

beerlover, you are not even remotely weird, and that is the reason I insisted on putting up privacy fences in our yard immediately upon moving into our new house. When Iām out in my own backyard I donāt want to interact with neighbours. Period.

I'm sorry, but a modestly-sized city should have the ability to exclude constituents above a certain age when they run their jury duty summonses. Brought to you by the daughter who has to call them and say, "Trust me, my 91-year-old mother can't do it physically and she's got cognitive issues, too."
Edited because I realize that sounds agist, but it just seems like whether they're in great shape or not, if a resident is >85 years old, give them a damn break from jury duty!!!
Of course, right after I posted about how this dog is displaying perfect behavior it all changes š. I crated her for the first time and ran to Trader Joeās. When I returned I let her out, gave her a treat, took her outside to use the bathroom and then sat back down to work. I heard her pawing at something and I looked down and sheās eating our jute rug, and then as I was examining the rug she grabbed my pumpkin muffin off the table. Iām glad we signed up for training classes right away.
If you have cleaners, do they come at a consistent time? I am thinking about switching. We use a service, which I like because they are insured. But it seems to just stress me out on cleaning days. They can come anytime throughout the day, and there is an app that tells you the morning of the cleaning approximately what time they will come, within a 1.5 hour window. But it often changes throughout and sometimes they just randomly show up hours earlier than what the app says. I feel very privileged to have cleaners so I hate to complain, but when we both are working from home it can be kind of difficult to schedule meetings, eat meals, etc when we don't know when we will have to get out of their way. Is this normal? I would really prefer a consistent time, or at least to know in advance the approximate time so we can move things around if needed.
Mine comes at the same time every other week. I don't like to be here and my dog needs to go to daycare on those days so I wouldn't be okay with an inconsistent schedule. In the rare times she has needed to change something, she lets me know well in advance.

Iād double check they donāt have an exemption! My dadās county lets you opt out starting at 70. I had to contact them and get them to send me a form to return but it was easy and now itās done with.
Do smoke alarms secretly have a clock in them so that they know to only malfunction in the middle of the night?
I swear they do so I googled it - apparently itās because temperature changes at night affect the battery.
One of ours did this last week, and I was the only one of the four of us that woke up. So that's comforting - I guess I can never leave the house because I'm the alarm.

I'm guessing they do and she's done it and this is just a glitch. She hasn't been called in forever. And her back issues, making it impossible to sit like that for hours, have been a problem for 3 decades.
Thank God for informed delivery, though! It let me get out ahead of it before she opened the notice and got upset.
I posted in late August about a massively destructive wildfire that burned over 200 homes in my city (it's still burning out of control, but it's been pushed into the backcountry so it's not an imminent danger to us right now.)
Another fire started just outside the town we used to live in, about 15 minutes from where we currently are. The entire town is on Evacuation Alert and we're expecting that to roll over to Orders soon. So the friends we lived with during our evacuation are now packing to leave.
I cannot find a dress for my almost 13 year old for this year of bar and bat mitzvahs. Sheās pretty small for her age (she wears a 10-12, mostly) and adult stuff is too big and kid stuff is too babyish and oh, they have ācolorā dress codes that they ask for and what the heck!!
I went to a mall today. An actual mall. I havenāt been to a mall since 1996. Still nothing. š
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.ā
We did a food and drink tour in Lisbon last night...and then my husband decided we needed to join the late night party tour. We are both hungover and tired (as we didn't sleep well for obvious reasons). It was a lot of fun, though. It's our last night in Lisbon and I don't see myself having more than one drink of wine tonight as we're heading to Porto next and that will include a lot of port tastings. My liver is going to need a break after this!
We did a great food and drink tour in Lisbon and had the same experience. We managed to pull through for Duoro and Porto but definitely had a couple weeks detox when we got home.

My cleaners come EoW on Thursday from 9am-12pm. They never come at a different time unless I arrange in advance for that. If they are early they sit in their cars. They are never late.

Wallflower, sounds like you have a good plan. I'm preeetty sure (and hopeful) my dad's state has an age limit at which point you can't be called again...however they called me for jury duty in that state at least two years after I moved to another state and fully changed everything over, so records don't seem to be a priority. The people joked back then "oh we've called deceased people for jury duty, tee hee", like no, get your sh!t together.
