DD (4) is struggling hard with the transition to Pre-K / public school from her daycare. She misses her daycare bestie desperately and has been begging for a playdate, so I reached out yesterday to the mom (who I barely know and who speaks Amharic and very little English) and some how we got a playdate scheduled for Saturday. DD is thrilled. All is good. But THEN, I went to text my mom (who I’m currently not on great terms with) to call her out on her recent behavior. I quickly entered “mom” into the To form and sent off, a moment too late to realize my phone defaulted to “S’s mom” instead (how the daycare mom’s contact is listed in my phone). So this woman, who just agreed to send her 4 year old to my house, got my very tense text meant for my mom and with the language barrier is probably very confused and slightly concerned. RIP me.
I'm way more tired today than I should be. I was asleep by 10:30 and up at 5:30 so that is still a decent nights sleep. Hopefully the coffee kicks in for you soon blondemoment123
Had another date with the guy this weekend. It was great. I'm actually having a hard time concentrating at work today because I keep thinking about it. He's the first guy I've dated since I split with STBX and I'm certainly not jumping in to anything, but it is nice to have someone as in to me as he is. I was really nervous to start dating because I'm not exactly in the best shape, but he doesn't care in the least.
I’m struggling lately. I am so stressed out about my job. My mom is visiting and it has not been smooth. DH is so annoyed with her. I’m not sleeping because she’s in the guest room where I usually sleep. I hate feeling like I can’t wait until she leaves 😔. Hoping today we can get out of the house and do something fun together. I took the day off and DS doesn’t have school, so maybe there’s hope?

I am rewatching Grey’s Anatomy from the start and forgot how good it was at the beginning. I’ll stop before I get to the terrible seasons.
Does anyone have kids with allergies who also say their ears hurt when allergies are bad? I know it could be post nasal drip causing ear problems, but DS2 (he’s 7) has allergies and has been saying for the past couple of weeks off and on that his ears hurt. I took him in about a month ago and they said no ear infection, probably a virus. But it’s not consistent. I’m just curious if allergies could be the culprit. He takes Claritin and Flonase daily.
blondemoment123, I had insomnia last night, too. According to my sleep tracker, ii was awake for 3 hours last night. 😫 And as a bonus, I forgot to turn in my alarm on the wake up light clock, so it was still dark in the room when my watch vibrated me awake. I am dragging. Light in the morning is so essential to my wake up.
I mentioned this at the end of the Sunday randoms. But, I just want to say it again with more thought. Yesterday, I gave an old cloak I made 18 or 19 years ago to a friend. The guy I’ve mentioned is kind of like a nephew because he is so much younger. The look of pure joy on his face twirling around the yard. It occurred to me this is the thing parents talk about with their kids. I can’t say I’ve ever seen it with any of my actual nieces or nephews. Who knew I’m not a completely cold hearted person who hates kids. Adopting them at 25 works for me 😂

I’m taking my GS troop to a jewelry store tonight (jeweler badge) and I think there’s a good chance one of these hooligans is getting arrested for trying to steal something.

Missed out on weekend plans due to DS having a minor sore throat and our dog having diarrhea, so that was a bummer. (And we lost $ because we couldn't resell the football tickets and also had to pay the dog boarding fee (the owner was kind enough to only charge us half instead of the full amount).) Our dog still has diarrhea, so that is super fun (sarcasm).
DH and I have been taking turns waking up to take the dog outside almost every hour at night for the last 2 nights, so that is making us both tired and cranky. I love our dog, but I'm so tired of his problems. Just about every month there is a problem and it often requires an Rx (in addition to the Apoquel he takes daily) and/or a vet visit, and we don't have endless amounts of time or money. If the breeder who bred him was still alive, we probably would have already given him back. DH and I definitely should have just stuck with our original plan of no more dogs (for now) after our first dog passed away in January 2020.

Got the bandage off and stitches out, hand is free except for bandaid yay!
jackie011 how long till she leaves? I hope you have fun getting out today. Stop somewhere for ice cream, that makes most things better.
Today I'm driving into town 5x. That is insane, but the kids all have sports spaced far enough apart so it is. None of the other parents I know live close enough to make car pooling make sense.
It was a good weekend, I wanted another day. Today I have a follow up from DD1's DD2's ADHD testing, I have no idea which way it could go. DD2 DD1 is taking her permit test this afternoon.
deadwing I am 3 episodes into Broadchurch, even got DH to watch with me. Although I am now regretting that since I know he will slow me down and I won't be able to binge watch!
Edited because it is Monday and mixed up my own kids
I'm in a big brainstorming session for my program, and there is literally one person in the room who has any idea what we're doing. At best, this is going to be a waste of my time, at worst I'm going to come out with a bunch of pointless action items. Uuuugghhhhhh.
Dd is home sick today. I told her this morning I had a lot of cleaning to do. She just asked me, “when are you going to start cleaning?” Lol, lay off me girl, it’s Monday!
Does anyone have a good rec for an everyday crossbody bag that can also be doubled as a "going out" bag? I want to take a crossbody when DH and I go to Vegas this weekend, but I would like to use it as an everyday bag after that as well.

DH just got on a plane for work and he'll be back Wednesday. DD1 is home sick (negative for covid). On the upside, I do not have to get her to volleyball practice tonight, which makes my evening easier because DD2 has improv group.
DD2 and I went to see Twoset Violin last night in DC. She watches them on YouTube and asked months ago if we could get tickets to see their tour. I had no idea what to expect but it was very fun and lighthearted, as well as some amazing musical talent.
I have no meals planned, I haven't grocery shopped, I am finishing up a major work project and I just want to be DONE with it but I have a ways to go. Once I get this done I'm going to feel amazing, but I am not there yet.
DS1 is back at school today post his week home with Covid. He’s very grumpy about masking because he’s 16 and grumpy about everything, but he’s still testing positive (day 8 today) so it is what it is. As soon as he left for school I masked up and totally Clorox-ed and Lysol-ed his room, and am washing basically everything he owns. The smell of Lysol makes me sick so I’m not enjoying the house today.
Someone in my neighborhood had a loom out for curb pick up yesterday so now I’m trying to find space for that! It’s a really nice one in great condition—new it’s well over $1000! Plus it came with the $$ stand. I could hardly believe my eyes when I got the curb alert email.
It was a good weekend over all, we were going to go to the beach but ended up taking a walk in the harbor and getting sushi instead because it was rainy. We spent a lot of money on seafood this weekend between the crabs, sushi and oysters but then I got a free loom so that evens out right?

I’m jealous of your troop every time you mention them!

I’m a big fan of Portland Leather. I have their mini crossbody tote and another - I think it was called toaster. They have a lot of options.
I usually don't complain about the price of stuff because there's nothing I can do, but it was over $90 for us to go out to Mexican this weekend and I'm just like "damn."
I remember going to the same place in college and getting lunch for $5.
E goes "mommy, that was like 20 years ago, you're old." Thanks kid, thanks.
September is all about just living and surviving in our teens world. The combo of cross country and marching band is pretty fucking intense this time of year. He had school events all weekend with really early morning starts. He is also in all honors classes and I know he is feeling very stressed out.
Anyways, my goal today is to make a whole bunch of easy food that he can grab and go to try to help him at least keep up on his nutrition. It is homecoming week, which is so much fun! But also does not allevant any of the pressure he is under.

Do smoke alarms secretly have a clock in them so that they know to only malfunction in the middle of the night? Being woken up at 1 am by 10 alarms all yelling “Fire! Fire!” over and over is not a fun way to spend the night. Luckily we think it was just an issue of one alarm dying and triggering the rest, but we are going to replace them all since they are getting close to their expiration date.
DD’s reaction to the alarm was to stay in her bed, screaming at the top of her lungs. My reaction was to run to her room and comfort her in her room. H’s reaction was to grab a chair to immediately work on disabling the alarms. Not one of us had a reaction of “grab the kid and get the eff out of the house until you figure out what’s going on,” which is slightly disconcerting to me.

No, but there is something about the way they detect things in the dark. I don’t remember the exact explanation, but some thing about needing more voltage at night, so when the batteries are dying, they notice when it’s dark.
PSA that now they do make 10 year battery smoke detectors - we replaced all of ours when we moved in 3.5 years ago and I just realized we have not had to deal with batteries a single time.
My jaw hurts so badly today. It's been bothering me on and off for a couple of weeks but today it is a sharper pain. I hope I don't have an infection or something? I made an appt to go in to the dentist on Thursday so I guess I'll see what they say. I have literally never once made a dentist appoint off the 6 month cleaning cycle. This is a new bit of fun I am not looking forward to.
Today is kind of a mess. I was home this morning, but at 1 we have a going away party for our director so I am leaving for the office in a little while. Then I have to zip home for a 3pm meeting with an executive functioning coach - my first one, so IDK what to expect. Then at 4:30 we have to leave to get flu/COVID shots. So I am basically not going to get any work done this afternoon. I would have just gone into the office for the morning, but we all share 1 desk so I wouldn't have had a normal place to sit. I probably could have sat in a common area but I figured that would be too distracting (see also, the need for executive functioning coach). If I didn't have about a billion things to do I wouldn't mind using 2 hours of my workday to commute back and forth, but today it's not great. I wish I could just skip the party but I'd feel really bad doing that.

I made covid/flu shot appointments for my family today. Here's to hoping the covid shot messes up my period so that it will no longer start the day I leave for vacation with my H (and we rarely get adult-only vacations! sob!).

My allergies make my ears hurt - especially if wind/breeze blow in them. They also make them itch - like waaaay down inside and it drives me bonkers because I can't scratch the itch!! Claritin does help but nothing helps when the air blows in there!
