Our Costco has mini caramel apple cakes (same size as their giant muffins) for fall, and they're SO GOOD, especially the frosting. I'm eating half of one for breakfast because I'm a grownup and what's even the point if I can't eat cake whenever I want?
This is dangerous for me to know! I saw them advertised and they looked good. I may have to go there sometime soon and give them a try. I'm not sure that's something my H will like so... more for me?
I want someone to come up with an app where you can meet up with other Costco shoppers and share food. I would love to split mini cakes and cinnamon rolls!
I hate the my dog is friendly and the my dog listens well people so much. There is a woman who walks her dog on a trail by my house and the dog is off leash and runs everywhere. It’s a little dog so of coarse this makes it even more ok in her eyes. Of coarse me having a GSD always means they are the aggressor. Our dog growled at it when it got too close (she was using excellent restraint given the circumstances) and it went even crazier, barking, jumping, running close around us in circles etc. Not my finest moment but I yelled at the lady to put a leash on her dog or I was going to kick it away. She of coarse gasped and said I shouldn’t take my dangerous dog out and I said my dog isn’t the one causing issues and the law is that your dog MUST BE ON A LEASH on that trail. We still see her fairly often and she still doesn’t leash her dog.
My random-have you ever known a person who gets into so many poor situations and never learns from any of them but acts like they are a victim? I know this person and the problems they create for their family are insane.
I have a GSD, and have had a GSD for 17 years, so I feel you on the perceptions other people have of GSDs. I probably would have responded the same way you did.
Regarding your random/question, I see you've met my MIL. This is her to a T: a person who gets into so many poor situations and never learns from any of them but acts like they are a victim. She definitely creates problems for the family.
How do I get a cashiers check to close on my house if I don't have a local bank? I don't think a bank will take my paper check and give me a cashier check, or am I wrong? God I hate adulting. Also I can't figure out how to set up water and trash because it doesn't go through the city and the city just kinda shrugged when I called them.
Your bank should still be able to get you a cashiers check. I just call my bank, give them the info and then they mail it. As long as I’ve been an adult I’ve never had a local bank (usaa).
Oh. That's what I thought but then thought differently since the dog part was implied...
I think it’s a literal translation from the German. Some of their dog breeds have “hund” in their name like dachshund.
One time I asked a German coworker what they call German Shepherds in Germany (not to be cheeky, but I was genuinely curious), and she told me they would call them Schaeferhunds. (Or maybe, Deutsche Schaeferhunds.)
Dog is in the official name for several breeds. Australian Cattle Dog and American Eskimo Dog (also German) are others. In writing this I realize that the American Eskimo Dog seriously needs to be changed because it has a weird backstory. There are no Eskies in Alaska and they don't have a specific history with indigenous peoples. They were called German Spitz (there are also Japanese, Danish and Italian Spitz) until World War II and then anti-German sentiment caused a PR problem for the breed. They really should go back to being German Spitz or just Spitz.
Random knowledge brought to you by that time I thought showing dogs would be a fun hobby. (It is not.)
Or the Australian Shepherd, which has no origin in Australia. The mini version has been renamed to Miniature American Shepherd, but the larger version is still called the Australian Shepherd. Not confusing at all.
followyourarrow definitely need a local bank for a cashiers check. Wire is a good option, but in my experience it will cost you about $50 to do a wire transfer. I do most of my banking online, but have an account with a local bank just for those rare occasions when I need cash or a cashiers check.
With my banks, USAA and Capital One, that are both online, you can call or fill out the info in your account to get a cashiers check mailed. You don’t need a local bank as an fyi.

followyourarrow, call your bank and ask if they partner with a local bank? I had a credit union years ago based in another state where I'd have to get on a plane to go there. They told me they worked with a bank about 2 miles from my house if I needed to do something in person. Also congratulations!!

Honestly that's a lot of trust to put in the mail. I know cashier's checks are secure, but the mail can be slow. Last year I had to mail something to an address less than a 1 hour drive from my house and it took almost a full week to arrive. That may be an anomaly, but if I need a cashiers check for closing on a house, I am not taking a risk that it isn't going to arrive in the mail on time. I'm glad this has worked for you, though.

I talked to my homeowner's insurance, they weren't able to tell me much yet. The rep spent about 10 minutes trying to read the report, but told me they would research and have underwriting call me back. She couldn't even tell me by when I had to resolve, other than "probably" 30 days. I laughed and told her she clearly lived in the Boston area, not rural MA, because getting someone to even come out to look will probably take nearly a month. I asked them to send me the report so I could confirm they looked at the right house and what the heck they saw. I have some calls into local agents, so I guess it's a waiting game right now. I was angrier than I meant to be, I know it's not the phone lady's fault, but I'm really upset with this.
My random-have you ever known a person who gets into so many poor situations and never learns from any of them but acts like they are a victim? I know this person and the problems they create for their family are insane.
Yes! One of my friends falls into this category, mostly because she is addicted to helping (more accurately, rescuing) people. It feels like every month she’s invited yet ANOTHER person to crash at her place/help with her Etsy biz/do something or another, and that person rips her off, disappears, damages her property, etc. etc.
After the 7th or 8th time, you’d think she would learn.
I mean, she is the victim, but it’s frustrating to see her keep setting herself up to have her kind heart exploited.
If a coworker calls you 4 times in a row and doesn’t leave a message, then messages you that they need to talk, is it too much to ask for a topic area? I got back “something important.” Ok… please… I need to put myself in the right headspace for this. Tried again, got nothing. And now my stomach is in knots over it. Just please, one word that clues me in. In that my importance or yours?
My guess is that the magic word is “shutdown.”
hahah. I actually specifically asked, “shutdown? End of FY? [topic I was guessing]?”
eventually, I determined it was the topic I expected. But, it’s been like 4 hours and a lot of effort.

We had a GSD for 13 years (😢). We now have a Jack Russell Terrier (JRT). Both ends of the spectrum of shit. Oh, and the JRT is, surprise, super reactive. We *know* our dog is the problem and are super sensitive to big dogs getting the blame for little dog problems.
Someone who lives in the neighborhood of the school I work at brings their giant dogs to run around on the playground everyday. Know how I know? My coworkers and I pick up their giant piles of poop daily. I am an instructional para and supervise recess. My job description doesn't involve picking up dog poop but I do it anyway because it's easier than dealing with a kid who has stepped or slipped in dog poop.
Asshole dog owners can go to hell.
I'm sorry. That's so unfair to you and your coworkers, but so kind of you to clean up anyways.
I walk DD1 to kindergarten every day and someone in our neighborhood leaves their dog's shit in the middle of the sidewalk before the turn off into school. Repeatedly. Fortunately, I always spot it before we can step in it but others haven't been so lucky and I can tell because by the time we get to it, it's smeared. What kind of dick has so little consideration for other people that they would want a child or their guardian to step in smelly dog shit on the way to/from school? People suck.

Miss R's IEP meeting did NOT go as planned. It was supposed to start at 7:45a. Time comes, the only people who show up are her case manager and myself. He checks in with them and they tell him they thought the meeting was at 2:45p. Ok, I can be available then. 2:45p rolls around and again its only her case manager and I. I am FURIOUS. Her case manager is frutsrated. There were 10 people ranging from teachers to school psychologists to SpecEd folks who were to be on the call and NONE of them could make it. A meeting that was set 3 weeks prior.
I sent a collected, yet blistering email to the all of the participants who were no-shows (case manager cc'd) to experess my ire. I got a call from the head of specia ed apologizing for not being on the call and to let me know that the district did not approve my choice of IEE elvaluator. This was denied a month ago and they never told me . We need the IEE bc we can't really do anything to address school refusal issues until we know 100% what we're dealing with and until we address the school refusal issues, any IEP is going to be worthless. I'm waiting for the district to tell me why my choice was rejected (a friend of mine gave me this person's name as she had gone the IEE route w her daughter and did NOT want to use someone from the district's preferred list). In the alternative, if they don't approve my requested evaulator, I asked for a list of 10 preferred ones to pick from.
We're going on 6 years of school/behavior issues with little to no resolution. It's driving me crazy and my faith in the public school system for ND kids is shrinking by the minute. The worst part is that she's in HS but skills wise, she's at early to mid 5th at best. She doesn't understand alot of what's going on bc she doesn't know how - partly bc she lacks the skills that were taught in middle school and partly bc of the ADHD.

I'd be so tempted to post a passive aggressive sign calling out this asshole because that's terrible behavior!

Yep, FedEx overnight has worked just fine! There’s lots of money that is sent in the mail without incident and it’s guaranteed so I don’t think it’s a huge deal. Just letting people know who have online banks that you can indeed get a cashiers check!
Amex owed us $35,000 as a refund and then def just sent it in FedEx too!
Thank you. It's been super frustrating. So far her HHI (1:1) instruction is going well. She's undestanding the work and she likes the teachers but we're also only 2 weeks in. Things could change once the work gets harder or they expect more out of her. Stay tuned.

I am supposedly to report to the principal/boss' office when called later today and I don't know why.
Is it because she lied to my face?
Is it because I figured out who they hired via linkedin?
Also, apparently the gastro doc thought he gave me 10 lab tests to get done, not the 1 he actually did.
So I have to figure out how to go to the office, get the lab request, then get to the lab in the last 2 work days of our fiscal year and impending shutdown.

I think I have a plan, but like, DUDE.
Oh screw going to the office. I have them send me lab requests through mychart/email all the time. Sure, I have to use my own paper, but I’m not driving out to get it. Plus, 80% of the time, they also send it to the lab and I don’t even need the paper. This is inconsistent though, so I always want a paper.
A good portion of my job is reviewing an incoming steams of widgets. I have 10 days to review each on and deciding which office to send to (or do nothing). It’s roughly 150 widgets a week. My goal was to have zero at the end of this week to start the new fiscal year (and also, not have weird issues with deadlines if shutdown). I have 15 right now. 3 hours left today, all day tomorrow, and I’m off Friday. I think I may achieve my goal! Except, the widgets come in randomly, like 35 between 8 and noon today. So, there will be more tomorrow. And I can’t do anything about Friday. But… OMG I might succeed.

It’s 3 pm and I have plans in the city I work for dinner and a show by my office. Why did I think was a good idea?? It’s hard enough to face down the last 2 hours at work without the added thought of rallying enough energy for dinner and a show.
I’ll go look at the menu, that should burn 10 minutes and cheer me up.

Any Maineiacs here? I am going to Portland ME in two weeks for a short trip with my bff for her birthday. We’re taking the Amtrak from Boston and will be staying Thursday-Saturday. Any food recommendations? I was looking up spa stuff to do too-like a couples massage or pedicure or something-of you know about anything like that I’m all ears.
I’m already planning on sampling some of Maine’s finest cannabis (seriously so many people here in MA won’t shut up about how ME is much better quality and pricing).
Duckfat gets high marks from anyone I know who’s been there.

ssmjlm ask them to fax the form direct to the lab. I realize to the rest of the world that sounds archaic, but there's still so much faxing in the medical field because email generally isn't secure enough. Or, if they can securely email it to you. There HAS to be an alternative other than going to their office to physically get a form.

Email definitely isn't a secure means of communication.... but I wouldn't necessarily consider a fax secure either. It spits out paper that anyone can grab, unless the receiving fax machine is in a locked room and access to the keys are highly restricted.

Pretty sure starburst604 works in that world/industry.... Unless I'm confusing with another poster?
