ssmjlm ask them to fax the form direct to the lab. I realize to the rest of the world that sounds archaic, but there's still so much faxing in the medical field because email generally isn't secure enough. Or, if they can securely email it to you. There HAS to be an alternative other than going to their office to physically get a form.
Email definitely isn't a secure means of communication.... but I wouldn't necessarily consider a fax secure either. It spits out paper that anyone can grab, unless the receiving fax machine is in a locked room and access to the keys are highly restricted.
It's considered electronically secure, as old of a form of communication as it is - wouldn't be vulnerable in a breach. Obviously from there the right measures have to be taken by the receiving office. I would LOVE to throw away our fax machines some day!

Yeah, but the medical world considered it secure. Although, generally now, they send it through the EMR systems that talk rather than fax.

I agree it's electronically secure. Physical security should also be a concern, IMO. I'm coming at this from the tech angle. Email is not secure, but there are methods of digital communication which are secure. I'm sure it's an undertaking to get the medical community to adopt a new mode of communication, though.

I've had this at the lab where the tech writes down the fax number and asks me (the patient) to call and have the order faxed right to the lab. It's a pain, but sounds like another hail mary option. Hope something works for you!

rubytue exactly, most stuff goes through EMRs now but because each healthcare system has their own and they don't yet "talk" to each other (someday!), if we need to get something to an outside system it usually goes by fax.
deadwing most places have their faxes routed directly into the EHR so there's not an actual paper print out. From there someone on the receiving end files it appropriately in the chart.

I can't do a wire transfer. My bank requires me to go in person to a branch, and my closest branch is about 14 hours away. They refuse to overnight me a cashiers check. Bless my sister, I'm giving her a check and she's giving me a cashiers check. I did however get my water and trash figured out.

They have adapted! But if for some reason the lab doesn’t have a system that communicates with the doctor, a fax would be fine. Same with prescriptions, they’re all e-prescribed now.

Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

I originally began working for a uni as a term time only person and did some contract work in the summers for them. This summer they weren't using contractors so I had the entire summer off. While that sounds good in theory and it worked out due to the bathroom renos and gardening I did, I got bored over time. I was just offered a full-time, full year position and I've accepted it. It'll allow me to retire a bit earlier, which is a good thing, and I'll be able to take holidays when I actually want to versus just when the students are off school (and when holidays are more expensive). I've already booked 2 holidays so have to get those approved ASAP. I think this will be a good thing (I hope).

Ya'll. I'm an idiot. I forgot my FI has money and that I'm on his account, his bank is local so I'm just going to go over there tomorrow and get a cashiers check. I pay all the household bills and he transfers me money once a month, so I kinda forget he has money lol.

This reminds me of how my XH and I handled money. I paid for everything, did the math and he just transferred me his share once a month. In hindsight, I wish we had done it differently because I shouldn't have had to shoulder the mental load alone. It's also bullshit that I was always the one paying for things. He was always good for his half, but that's not the point.
You do what works for you. I'm not judging how you and your FI handle your money. Just sharing some residual anger apparently.

Lol! I’d do the same! You’ve been solo for a while, and your autopilot just kicked in. You (and your sis) must be relieved!
Someone who lives in the neighborhood of the school I work at brings their giant dogs to run around on the playground everyday. Know how I know? My coworkers and I pick up their giant piles of poop daily. I am an instructional para and supervise recess. My job description doesn't involve picking up dog poop but I do it anyway because it's easier than dealing with a kid who has stepped or slipped in dog poop.
Asshole dog owners can go to hell.
Our elementary school banned dogs on campus because of this exact reason.
They went hardcore and seem to have eased off - but before the enacted it the dog poop where kids played was untenable.
I ate one of my duck eggs today (fried it into an egg in a nest). It was so good; the yolk of a fried egg is my favorite part, and that it was extra rich all over the bread was just *chef's kiss* amazing.
I also spent a small chunk of my day playing a puzzle box game that my niece sent us for Christmas last year (think like Hunt a Killer, but no murder - I'm hunting for pirate treasure).

I am riding with my parents tomorrow on a 10 hour road trip out west for a family wedding. My dad is insane and is making us leave at 5AM. I predict I might start actually packing around midnight, which means I will not sleep tonight.
Our Costco has mini caramel apple cakes (same size as their giant muffins) for fall, and they're SO GOOD, especially the frosting. I'm eating half of one for breakfast because I'm a grownup and what's even the point if I can't eat cake whenever I want?
Glad to know I should give into the impulse to purchase those this weekend.
spindle92 I'm with your dad on this one. Leave early, especially if it gets you through high traffic areas before rush hour. If I'm driving somewhere that takes me through/near NYC, I leave no later than 4am to avoid traffic there.
I woke up to a bunch of emergency texts from work and put in an hour by 6 because apparently my new boss sleeps through those unlike my old boss. Blargh. And I have to log in late tonight for a production change. I plan on leaving early tomorrow...

I do like getting there earlier in the day instead of late at night but in regards to avoiding traffic - our only "big city" we pass thru is Fargo, ND. LOL!
Any Maineiacs here? I am going to Portland ME in two weeks for a short trip with my bff for her birthday. We’re taking the Amtrak from Boston and will be staying Thursday-Saturday. Any food recommendations? I was looking up spa stuff to do too-like a couples massage or pedicure or something-of you know about anything like that I’m all ears.
I’m already planning on sampling some of Maine’s finest cannabis (seriously so many people here in MA won’t shut up about how ME is much better quality and pricing).
Also, loafing around sounds sublime. I've been thinking a three-day stretch, while the kids are in school, is what I need: one day to socialize, one day to tackle a couple home projects, and one day to do absolutely nothing. The perfect PTO trifecta!
Coming into this thread way late, I have a couple new recs in Portland. The Crown Jewel on Great Diamond Island is cute and fun with great drinks. The ferry out there is a short, pretty ride, and you can walk around this small island in about a half hour. Plan for it to feel 20 degrees colder out on the water than whatever the temp is on land.
If you happen to be walking up and down Congress and find yourself in need of a restaurant, Yardie Ting on Monument Square serves pretty good Jamaican, Jin Yang Tavern serves nice pan-asian on Munjoy Hill, Uncharted Tea in the center of town is where all the hip Gen Zers hang out (and you can get good tea!), Tandem Coffee and bakery is where the aging hipsters hang out, and I like El Corazon for Mexican.
