H has been OOT since Friday and comes back today. Thank goodness b/c he does all the meals and cooking dinner has been hard! But I made this NYT paprika chicken though and was pretty proud of how it turned out (gift link):

My grandma is 105 and she currently lives at home alternating between my mom and my aunt. Well my aunt is 80 and is starting to have worse health problems (mostly orthopedic), so she can’t take care of her anymore. My grandma can walk and talk, but is obviously very old so needs help with going to the bathroom and bathing. So it seems it’s time for a nursing home. I hope they find a good fit. My mom often takes her to get her nails and hair done and tries to stay social with her so hopefully they’ll find a good fit that isn’t isolating. To live at home with a decent quality of life till 105 is pretty amazing. And thankfully my grandma got to meet my daughter earlier this year for Mother’s Day, my grandma held her so naturally, it was cute.
We ended up with spiced apple cider subbed in for plain that no one wants to drink, so I've got it simmering on the stove to reduce for syrup for cocktails and maybe SK's apple cider caramels since I'm WFH today. My house smells so good! Feels very fall, as long as I keep the windows closed since it's supposed to be 80* today....
wanderingback, 105! That's amazing! The neighbor that lives behind us is 103 and you would NEVER know it! He's very spry, still does all his own yardwork including mowing the grass and planting and tending a good size garden - he even hand turns the dirt with a shovel every year before planting. It's really amazing to see him do so much. I tease my H because he hires out gutter cleaning because he doesn't like heights but this guy gets up on the ladder and does it himself. My H loves to chat with him about his time in the Greek Army during WW2.

I just checked my FB for the first time in several days and saw lots of birthday messages from my weekend bday. Then I saw I had a message in messenger. It's a video of an acquaintance wishing me a happy birthday and specific wishes for the coming year. She's so excited about my birthday in the video. We barely know each other, we have kids in the same grade and wave hello. Are video messages a thing now? No, please no.
maudefindlay, I'll bet money she's into a MLM and going to try to suck you in!
Ha, I looked and don't see any evidence of an MLM but that did cross my mind. She works in marketing. Her husband ran for congress a few years ago, but is not on any ballot this year. Idk.

OMG, this. Especially if her very specific wishes included a new business, a financial windfall, clear skin, or weight loss….
I managed to get dengue last week - I do not recommend that to anyone else! It is a week later and today is my first day back at work and I just feel exhausted.
My poor 11 yo son has also got it and he is worse than me. he's had the full remit of symptoms - high fevers, joint pain, headaches, diarrhea and no energy at all. I am finding it really hard to see my usually energetic sporty kid being like this for nearly a week.
My supervisor is requiring that I do a self-evaluation. In the past, they’ve been optional and I’ve never done it. It’s due today, and of course I’ve put it off until the last minute. Ugh.
Still just tired over here. I'm WFH today, but I don't know if I'll make it the full day. This is unlike anything I've ever experienced.
The only thing I could think to compare it to would be pregnancy, but this is 10x worse than what I remember. My appt is Tuesday, but I'm debating messaging the doctor now and asking if there is anything they could think of for these type of side effects.

I'm in PA for work. Work asked what we wanted to eat and I mentioned I'd love to try a Philly cheesesteak. OMG, they brought us some and it was so good! I'm just north of Philly, so they said it's pretty authentic. We also had pirogies, they were good, but I don't get the appeal necessarily.
TW: Weight
There is nothing like flying to make you feel bad about yourself. Delta seems to have smaller seatbelts and I had to ask for an extender. I sat in an exit row on one flight and they said I couldn't have an extender if I sat there, so I lied and said I was fine. Then the attendant pressed me on if I was capable of helping and opening the door if necessary, which she didn't do to anyone else.
I slept like the dead last night. Until about 3:45 when I had a dream I was choking and then woke myself up coughing. I have very vivid, almost interactive dreams. Is that normal? Just last week I had a dream about someone scratching my face and woke up with a scratch on my nose. It seems almost once a week I have a dream that translates into real life.
Kind of happy but kind of frustrated. My boss currently has 3 people working for him and we support 11 job sites.
I have for a year been trying to convince him that change the division of labor so we all support everything at 2-3 sites each instead of 1 or 2 things at all 11 sites. My coworkers have agreed but we haven’t been able to get boss on board despite the benefits I’ve laid out.
Today we were having an unrelated conversation and he had this epiphany that this is how we should divide up our resources. He has a meeting with his boss this afternoon to get approval.
I am happy that this is on the table as in edition to the benefits to the company it would also benefit myself and my coworkers personally. Frustrated because I have literally brought it up to him at least 4 times and he wasn’t receptive but now all of a sudden HE had the idea and it’s the best one ever.

I hate the trend where Instagram influencers tell you to comment “links” or whatever to get more info about the post. NO. Let me click on a link in your bio like the good old days.
We got a new couch & ottoman last night and it is SO comfy! We've been needing to replace the couch in our family room for a long time but just hadn't prioritized it because it didn't feel pressing but Menards had this on sale and H just happened to see it when he was there for something else. I didn't have high hopes when he took me to check it out but I agreed to look at it because we don't need anything amazing or high priced in that space because it's pretty much just the kid hang out spot but I was really surprised by it! But of course getting new meant hauling out the old which was rough because the old couch was HEAVY because it had 2 motorized recliners in it but we managed. And then hauling in the new one - while not as heavy was still heavy. And of course H managed to conk me on the head with it and then ram it into my foot. I hate moving stuff with him because he is very aggressive about it and tries to go to fast and I usually end up getting annoyed or hurt. I was really hoping the neighbor would be home when we got home with it to help but nope, I had to help. But it's in there and looks great. Kid actually got up on time and ready quickly today because she wanted to sit on the new couch before school LOL.

It's October 3rd
My company is doing appreciation week this week and every day has a puzzle for a chance at a gift card. Today's is creating words on a calculator turned upside down. 1. I'm far too juvenile (always 12) to come up with work appropriate words 2. Do a lot of people (outside of say teachers, accountants and scientists) still have a physical calculator? No judgement if you do, but I'm sure we all switched now that they're on phones and computers and such.

I needed an HP12C for work a long time ago, and while the work I do now doesn't require it, I love that thing and will use it until I die.

I still have an old graphing calculator and I use it at home when I’m paying bills/budgeting. It’s much better than using my phone or computer calculator.

Yes that sounds very normal. Some people have very vivid dreams like that while others rarely ever remember their dreams. I’m a vivid dreamer.
Every time I work closely with another person on a project I am reminded why I rarely do that. In need to stop assuming people know what they are doing and are competent even if they seem like it from the outside.
Now I have to go pick up some fiber arts thing on marketplace and I don’t want too.
