Oh, here's random. Had trouble getting soundly to sleep Monday night, around 11:30 heard roadwork on the next street over but in my half-sleeping state, it sounded kind of like a helicopter but not quite. I literally thought, "oh, have the aliens finally arrived?" and actually got out of bed to look out the window. WTF, brain?!
Um, I feel like this is me several nights a week. I'll often wake up and think I see something that OBVIOUSLY isn't there. Until I put on my glasses and wake up a bit more. Like last night I woke up and saw this small light on our ceiling. To me (without my contacts in) it looked like a small hole up into the crawl space with a camera hanging down. Stared at it for a good long while in a half asleep state trying to figure out why there was a camera there. Put my glasses on to see it was our smoke detector. Or one time I thought there was a carnival going on in the neighbors yard. I sat up in bed and saw it all, until I put my glasses on. My mind plays weird games with me when I'm half asleep.
Weber’s is closer to us so I went there today and they didn’t have any! The website said they had them so I was surprised. I should have called and double checked. KP Huber’s used to be my go-to but they closed the end of September.
I’ve done Larriland before but it’s a good hour from here. We have an event in Frederick later in the month so I wasn’t too excited about making the drive twice in a couple weeks. I don’t know if they’d still have any then. I feel like they are getting harder to find now that varieties like honeycrisp have become “famous”. I think places switched growing to bigger sellers.
Lariland had rows of staymens. Like a whole hill. Staymens are a late October apple, usually hitting prime the 3rd or last week. I may have been around and around about this a few times. 😂 And prime season usually coincides with our anniversary.
edit: further support you are a week early, Lariland doesn’t have them listed as available yet. Winecrisp, yes. Winesap, no.
Weber’s has them for picking now and has for the last two weeks! According to my photos of previous years I’ve picked them on the 9th, 10th (2x), 11th and 12th.
I have felt before like Larriland is about a week or so off from places closer to me. Maybe it’s colder? I noticed that about peaches this year when we were debating about that. So maybe they will still have them in a few weeks then?
ETA Pick your own places do generally have them but I don’t see them on farm stands or at the farmers markets like I used to. It’s only been the last five years or so I’ve had to make an effort to seek them out and/or pick them myself. Now it’s all the honeycrisp and their relatives.

DS has been sick for the past 3.5 days with a stuffy nose, mild cough, and sore throat. No fever or tiredness. He's taken 3 home covid tests and they've all been negative, but we took him to urgent care for a strep test (rapid test was negative), PCR, flu, and RSV test. I hate having to wait for the results.
Our internet provider keeps having outages. I don't know what they're doing. DH just texted that he has no internet and can't work. I told him to go to my parents, they have a different provider.
I have a new employee who came from Space Force. He is not impressed with our stuff and I'm like "where do you think they got the money for space force? They took from all the other DOD agencies." DUDE.

Just heard from a neighbor that we have no water at home which isn't a huge deal right now for us because we're not home but it's not supposed to fixed for a few hours and that causes a wrinkle in the things kid typically does right after school to get ready for cheer practice and she is very much a routine person like me so hopefully it's back on sooner. I'd like to at least be able to flush the toilet LOL
It's cold and dreary today and I didn't sleep well the last couple of nights so I'm just dragging today, I need to perk up!

When I'm stressed, I get forgetful and clumsy. So far today, I've burned the chili I was making for dinner (while feeling super proud and together for making it ahead of time since the phillies play at 5 ((!!)) today), I dropped my deodorant and it shattered into a million chunks, and then I spilled hot sauce and coke zero on myself bc I ate my lunch while driving. I give up!
Mrsu out till 5am on a random Tuesday? Was there an occasion? I’m annoyed alongside you (because wtf) but also a tiny bit impressed at his stamina because I’d be curled up in a corner by 10:30pm.
He's in pain even right now. LOL. He went out with his team and also a group that is trying to get a contract from his team. They ended up in karaoke. He's always been a night owl but this is way more than I'd be able. I'm tired by 11pm!
Wow! No bars here are open past 2am and that's just on the weekends. UK weeknight nightlife is happening!

Kids are off on fall break this week. DS1 had a longer practice than usual this AM and in a different town and then they went to lunch after so that was an hour and a half of back and forth driving. It was in a beautiful spot with gorgeous fall leaves at least.
Taking younger 2 to Zoo Boo in a bit. We went to a local orchard last night with DH and had fun, he has a work dinner tonight so no zoo for him. It's nice and cool out and kids will wear costumes.
tacokick, maybe that’s it. Perhaps I touch colder out there. The microclimates around here fascinate me. We moved like 15 miles and dropped half a zone.
Sometimes, I feel like I’m too nice. But I’m one of those people who will drop everything to help a friend in need. Case in point, friend’s car isn’t running and needs to get to the embassy in DC for an emergency passport to deal with a death in the family. Ruby - sure. I’ll reschedule this meeting, take the day off, and drive you down there tomorrow.

InBetweenDays, & candreco I listened to some green noise today when I really couldn't focus, and I was ah-mazed how well it actually worked. Like literally felt like someone took an iron to my brain. Prooooobably power of persuasion from the (Calm app?) commercial, but enough for me to want to try it before bed or the next time I wake up in a confused panic. I find I have a lot more of that when I'm overtired, which is a lot lately. Also there are several colors of noises like pink, brown and something else, so you may want to try different colors to see what works for your brain and mood at that time.
It's totally engrained in our area/social circle too, and I'd also like to just keep it up permanently. For the holidays, if I go to a holiday party that falls on a weeknight I'll have a glass of wine or two and be ok with that. What I needed to stop was the pouring myself a drink immediately after dinner every night and then drinking solo in front of the TV until bedtime. I need to get back to being a SOCIAL drinker lol, I was becoming an anti-social drinker!
SAME
X2. But I just started working at a winery and am getting allll the free wine (opened bottles used for tasting so I can’t store them).

DS had this recently and it was just a viral infection the doctor said. He was tested for everything and they all came back negative.
rubytue, we live in a town with a train, so I guess it would never occur to me to offer to drive. Instead I would say hey here is how you take the train in...

Wow, you are nice. I feel like this is what Uber/Lyft are for.
I have no friends close enough that I would ask that kind of a favor from. I'd figure it out myself.
@@@ Our friends all have family that help them out when needed (we don't). I had to ask a neighbor to pick up my kids from school when H had to have a procedure and he couldn't drive home or use rideshare (hospital didn't allow it so I had to drive him). We ended up not needing them but it was the first time it hit me that we don't really have anyone to help us in an emergency.

We have my parents, He’s parents and my sister all within a 2 mile radius, but I still end up stuck more often than not. It sucks and feels pretty lonely
I am flying out of town for a wedding tomorrow on the other side of the country. I was very excited this morning when I was able to rebook my flight from costing 50K miles to just 18K miles. Same exact flights and times and everything. I was able to use the miles I saved to book my flight home.
I haven't had a travel win like this in a long time. Reminds me that I used to be a human with interests and hobbies before I was a mom.

Yeah. I guess that was an option. Sort of. But also, other than the one meeting, I had nothing going on tomorrow that couldn’t be finished today or Friday.

Yeah. I’m someone who doesn’t have family, let alone family nearby (only child, parents dead or estranged). So I really feel for people who don’t have family for stuff like this. I also grew up with family friends who were all far away from blood family, so like my parents friends were like siblings to them. For example, my dads best friend built an apartment in his basement for me to live in when I got to DC. And, I guess I’ve been in the situation where people say “if you need anything, let me know” and then don’t when I do. So, I did say let me know if you need anything, and the anything was a reach, but doable. But also, maybe I’m a pushover.
But also, if by some miracle, we get done early afternoon, I’m stopping by the zoo. To see the pandas before they leave.

You’re a good person! We need more people like you. I’ve definitely been in the situation where I asked for help and people didn’t show up, so I’ve kind of lost faith in people.
Jealous of the zoo visit! We were there over the summer and hoped to see the pandas, but they closed due to a severe thunderstorm and we missed it. I’m bummed we won’t make it back before they leave.
Why am I so lazy? I need to reschedule a colonoscopy and schedule a vet visit. It's literally two phone calls, and it's been on my to do list for more than a month now.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Is it possible to un shrink clothes? I got DS some joggers from Underarmour, washed on cold and dried them, and they’re significantly shorter. 😔
I’ve seen instructions online for it. Lots of fabric softener and stretching while they are damp, if I recall. I’ve never tried it, but you can Google for instructions. I don’t want to put in a link, least it implies I’ve tried a method.
I got all the bedding washed for both kids. It’s always so much work because they sleep with multiple blankets. And that pretty much took up my entire day off.
Oh and I have sympathy pains while DH does his colonoscopy prep…
I just put together a loose plan to go to DC to see the pandas, now that I know they're leaving.
This is my second attempt. We shall see if I make it.
I was 5 when they came to DC in 1979. And we went on a trip to DC around then. I still have the little panda souvenir I got them. 😁 Seems fitting I need to see them off.
I got the covid booster and the flu shot yesterday, and I am feeling terrible. I forgot that I always get insomnia and the body aches this time are so bad.
I expected to get both shots yesterday but they only had the flu shot. And yet, I'm feeling achy, didn't sleep well, and decided I'm just going to take it easy today.
We are getting our flights for thanksgiving - flying Boston to Dallas. Flights are almost NINE HUNDRED dollars. For a fairly short domestic flight between two major hubs. WTF, I have NEVER seen flights so expensive for this route, even for holidays. It’s as much as we pay to fly to Hawaii. Every airline, too! (except Spirit but that’s a hell no).
I know they aren’t going down at this point but I can’t stomach paying this tonight. Im going to wait a few days.
