My MIL (she’s one of those people who is a saint but who is also annoying to be around for long periods of time. I do love her, though) has had a rough time of it lately.
She fell awhile back, and has had some periods of confusion. This is very unlike her - she lives on her own, is very involved politically and is generally very sharp. Now she is having bouts of confusion and auditory hallucinations (faintly hearing a song her mother used to sing). She underwent an MRI yesterday.
She is 86 and, I don’t mean this in a harsh way, but several of her children seem to think she’s going to live forever and are in total denial about her age and possibly declining health. Now this could be something as simple as a UTI, but it might be more serious. Hs siblings are refusing to even consider the possibility of anything serious and are planning a surprise party for her in January.
wildrice just FYI Bogota is usually 60s and on and off drizzly, so I'd still pack a light waterproof jacket of some kind. Hope you have a great trip!
Thank you! I am definitely bringing a rain jacket and umbrellas. I was just worried about having wet clothes and needing to change multiple times a day into dry ones, but fingers crossed that won't be as much of an issue now
all of you who are off till next week can just SUCK IT! I'M KIDDING, I am just jealous.
I actually have today off (because I get to work at 4AM on Friday) and I am shooting a friend's family photos in a few hours. I am by no means a professional photographer but she is desperate and I said I would do it. Why am I so dang nervous about this?
I do not understand people that are like "I packed for 3 weeks in Europe with a carry-on and backpack." How do you do your hair and skincare?
I've become too high maintenance. I'm trying to plan out clothes for a 10 day cruise and figuring out how to stick to just 2 checked bags for the 2 of us. We're not even doing the DR for dinner every night based on our schedule and preferences.

I should post the pic I have of all of our bags from a girls 2-week trip to Europe which included a cruise and we did do formal nights. It was so embarrassing walking behind the porters as they wheeled our 2 full carts of bags - for 4 people.

So....I went to the podatrist this morning because my left foot has been killing me since I tripped down the garage stairs...on September 12 (I know, don't @ me). It's the same foot I broke sometime in the last year (w/o knowing it) from a fall.
I broke my ankle in 2 places. Because of course I did. OMG. Now I'm in a boot--for Thanksgiving, my 50th birthday, and Christmas. OMFG.

I have become one of those people and I love it! Not having to check a bag or wait at the carousel is so nice. BUT: I either count on buying small amounts of skin/hair care products onsite or I take small amounts. I also count on having to do laundry at least once, so all bets are off if that’s not available.
My sister is being judgy and I'm not here for it today. FI leaves to go offshore tonight and I'm driving him. He'll leave out of one port (Louisiana) and come back into another port (Mississippi). His company expects you to figure out your own transportation. Driving him back and forth seems to make the most sense to me. I also don't want his car in some random lot for 4 -6 weeks. She thinks he should be driving himself or taking Uber. Uber isn't really easy to come by in some of these ports, not to mention that it will be a good $200 if you can find a driver willing to take you 100+ miles.
My mom has been reviewing my outfit of the day and telling me whether she deems them appropriate for my job or not.
I don't want to go to Thanksgiving at this point.
As I’m reading this, based on your sisters response, I was fully expecting the drive to take 4 to 6 hours (each way). Then I got to the part where it was 100 miles. Your sister is being ridiculous to even say anything but she’s more ridiculous to think it doesn't make sense to do it this way. Team you.
We're all off today, and it feels so nice to be curled up on the couch drinking tea for awhile before I have to get meal prep for tomorrow started.
Yesterday was my mom's 75th birthday, and since I couldn't get time to visit with her on her actual birthday we're going to lunch today at a delicious Jewish deli near my house that she's never been to. Between spending the day with my sister and nephews yesterday, fancy dinner with my dad, our lunch/visit today, Thanksgiving with the whole family tomorrow, and a family bowling "party" for her and my DS (whose birthday is next week) on Saturday I hope she'll feel sufficiently celebrated.
An online friend I've known for more than 20 years has been posting increasingly concerning, one-sided, and frankly bigoted things on Facebook about the Israel/Hamas war. I reached out privately late last week to express concern both about her and about what she'd said, and she just continued to post things over the weekend and Monday that were frankly unacceptable. So I unfriended her. She responded by blowing up my Messenger with super long, angry rants and blocked me. A mutual friend and I were texting about the whole thing, and about how worried we are about what she's saying/thinking and why, until pretty late last night, and now my heart is heavy thinking about how someone I knew and really respected seems to have morphed into someone I don't recognize almost overnight.

I have travel size products for everything. I don’t bring shoes that can only be worn with one outfit. I’m not a big sweater so I can wear outfits more than once. I buy those compression bags for things like underwear and socks then I use that bag for dirty laundry on the way back.

Yeah, I think on a cruise it's just harder because you're on the ship. Plus we have dinner clothes for 6 of the nights, although DH is doing 3 pairs of pants he'll rotate.
We'll probably be in a swimsuit 90% of our time on the ship anyway, but I did my toiletries last night and it was like damn, I have a lot more than I usually do. I do have a ton of toiletry sized things.

Plus you get a little extra time alone and to say goodbye and then when you go back a big greeting.

I've never done 3 weeks, but I do use just a (large) backpack for trips that are 10-12 days. One key for me is being able to do laundry. We usually stay at least 1 place that has a washing machine so we don't have to GO anywhere but we can throw a load in before bed and hang it up to dry in the morning.
I also don't "do" my hair, it's curly and I let it air dry, so I just need a small bottle of gel and I'm good. None of my makeup or skincare stuff really takes up that much space, TBH. And I usually wear a pair of sneakers and pack 1 pair of flats that will go with everything.
I had a small Kroger order I was scheduled to pick up yesterday. They called early on in the afternoon to let me know it would be an hour later. I know better than to go before I get the text saying it's ready and I didn't get that until after 11 last night. I'm hoping if I swing by there in a bit it'll still be there.
My mom texted me this morning that she's made/bought 5 pies and 4 types of bread/rolls for tomorrow. It's literally just my family of 5, my brother, his girlfriend, and her. And I'm gluten-free, to which she responded with a "What? Still??" text after I reminded her.
A month or so ago I posted about a house never me that took down their Halloween decor before Halloween and put up Christmas decor. About a week after that they took down the Christmas decor and had nothing for awhile and now as of this week they have general fall decor.
I am so confused by this. I am tempted to befriend them so I can find out what is going on with their seasonal decor.

That is confusing. Maybe they celebrate the holidays early with family?

Same, naturally curly hair = travel-sized gel and I'm good. It's not the end of the world to pick up a small bottle wherever I'm going as well. I tend to use the shampoo and conditioner at the location I'm going to.. or back a travel-sized one if we're staying at Airbnb/VRBO. I plan to travel with freshly straightened hair that I can go 2-3 days before washing. Sometimes I'll pack my straightening iron, but I fried one in Europe even with an adaptor so I tend to just embrace the curl, especially if it's international travel.
I relax on my full skincare routine. Moisturizer/sunscreen, small retinol for overnight, cleanser and that's it. I have a million travel-sized versions of things from various Ulta/Sephora freebies and subscription boxes over the years. I'll survive for a week or two without the added steps I do when I'm at home.
I also tend to take over DH's liquid allotment, and the kids if we're traveling as a family. I hate buying sunscreen on vacation since it's always overpriced, so usually a kid's entire liquid allotment is as many travel-sized sunscreens I can fit in a bag.
Targeted capsule wardrobe packing and a location with laundry if it's more than a long weekend. A long weekend I can do in a personal item only if I use packing cubes.
I get free bags on Delta so I do take a checked bag since it's free.. and then use it to bring back beer/wine lol. #priorities

Could they have put up the Christmas stuff to take pictures or something? Do people practice decorate??
All 3 of us are home sick. It feels exactly like covid, but the dozen covid tests from several different boxes says it's not. DS was the worst this time, with a fever for 3.5 days. H and I just have chest congestion and sinus stuff.
I anticipate we'll all be home again tomorrow. I want to find a stream of the parade (would Youtube have it?) so DS can see what all the American hype is about. He's only ever seen clips of it because we're all at school/work.
Good grief - I just saw that Stanley now has a 64oz tumbler. For $60.00. That is a big old nope for me.
Imagine how heavy that thing is?
There are definitely way more things I want to spend $60 on that a giant Stanley. But I guess for anyone who gets it, they get a good arm workout when they carry it around.
I booked a couple nights at a national park over spring break and just got an email they’re doing a second night free promo so I cancelled and rebooked, saving like $250. I already paid one night deposit on the first booking so it’s like the trip is free! (girl math lol)

Are they influencers? Someone I follow on instagram (a home/diy account) put up all of her Christmas decor in October because a local company used her home to shoot their holiday advertisements. Then she took it down.
