Do you guys not have a max amount that people can bank at one time? We do at our company. If you're at the max and don't start taking PTO you don't accrue any more time until you go below the max.
We have a max you can roll over per year, but not a max amount you can bank overall. So with a company where some people roll over the max every year and often times stay for 10+ years, some people have a giant bank of hours, which then has an effect on the balance sheet. They may get to a point where they limit the bank you can have, but who knows if/when that would happen. This is a giant company, so major policy changes like that tend to take a long time to approve.
We can have 1.5x our annual PTO allotment at any given point. So if a person receives 24 days (192 hours) of PTO annually, the max that person could have in their bank at any one time is 36 days (288 hours). PTO is accrued by pay period and will stop once the max is reached.
Another item that was updated along the way -- we are no longer able to cash in more than 5 days of PTO when we leave the company, including retirement (where allowed by law).
That change wasn't announced at all and I'm sure more companies have that in place than we realize. If I were in a position where I had a ton of banked PTO, I would check your benefits and see if that's outlined. I had seen it before but had to dig to find it right now to be sure I was referencing it right for this response. It's within our retirement checklist documents on our HR site.
As you mentioned, shareholders care about this on the balance sheet.. so change could be swifter than for other changes, I know people like to complain but then proactively take PTO!
I'm at a negative PTO balance at this moment lol (we can be up to -40 hours at any time), I cannot imagine relying on a company to "owe me" something like time off.
I’m in a fight with our city council over the lack of sidewalks and am so irritated. They won’t put them on one side of the street because it’s reserved for horses. We live in suburbia and there are maybe 10 horses around, and none near where I want the sidewalk. I’m sure there were many more when the city incorporated like 60 years ago and there are a few loud boomers who have been here forever and love the idea we’re a horse town. The one council member I emailed pretty much said too expensive and I have horses so won’t change the legislation. They also fight tooth and nail to not allow anything other than one single family home on a big lot. Ugh

If they are creating giant banks of hours then they aren’t doing it the way I think most do it.
We can start each year with 10 days worth of time in the pto bank. If you have more than that, you lose it. But it's not additive like you can just keep adding 10 days every year.
Does anyone else just feel uterlly useless on a therapy day? Like can not get anything productive done for the entire day except therapy kind of useless. Please tell me I'm not the only one.
Quite often, yes. I simply cannot go to therapy in the middle of the day and be productive with other things. I go after work now and pre-plan that nothing else will be accomplished that evening. That really limits my options, but it's the only thing that works.
There’s a head cold going around my office and my boss very generously gave it to me. Boo hoo hoo.
I hate colds. My mouth is so dry. I’ll never neglect you again, nose. You’re the real MVP of breathing.
I feel allll of this. I'm on day 4 of the head cold from hell. At least last night I was able to breathe out of my nose for the first time in three days? Hope you feel better!
I feel for both of you! I’m on week 5 of whatever respiratory thing is going around. Finally getting a chest x-ray on Thursday. 😷

I schedule it on Friday and get take out for dinner. The kids are usually tired on Fridays and easier to deal with. You’re so not alone

Oh, wow! I'm sorry you've been dealing with it that long. What a nightmare. I'm lucky in that I very rarely get sick and when I do, always forget how much it sucks!
Is taste genetic? When I was growing up, my Sicilian great-grandmother had allll this glass fruit in the house. I have no idea what happened to it when she died but my 12YO son is obsessed with the idea of buying my mom - who heretofore has shown no interest in figural fruit - crystal apples, pears and whatnot. I was trying to talk him out of it this year, and he countered with a GIANT crystal cross. He's halfway to being cast on Jersey Shore. WTF.

I don't promote violence, but I'd like to throat punch whoever started this "This, but make it this" crap. The last 7 days till break will be theme days at school for DS2 and one day is "School spirit, but make it holidays" (I imagine that asshole doing jazz hands when they say the second part). Wtf is that even?

I’m unhappy with my mom’s Christmas gift. I got a sign that lists all 3 grandkids and their birthdays (she has another one but it has just my two boys, since my nephew wasn’t anywhere near existent yet). The design is meh, but there wasn’t a lot to choose from and it was fine enough. The frame I got is way too rustic for my tastes. I guess I didn’t pay enough attention to the Etsy listing but I really don’t like it. H likes it and thinks it compliments the sign so I’m contemplating leaving it as is, bc the other frames I’ve seen are 3 times the price. Oy.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

Would the sidewalks be on land owned by the Township, or in front of private property?
Covid positive, down I finally go. Thanks, oppressive crowds in NYC on Saturday. I’m a newb at this (hydrate, rest…?) but am almost looking forward to the forced downtime… hopefully I continue to stick with mild symptoms and no one else gets it.

It’s unclear but there is (muddy uneven) room for these non-existent horses so I assume there’s at least some kind of easement if it’s not public land.

If you hear about someone snapping in an airport and the cause it's hearing Mariah Carey's Christmas song 3 times in 15 minutes, well, it's been nice knowing you.
This country is barely shy from being a Muslim theocracy. Every year I think that means I'll escape, and mostly I do, but it also means they play the same 5 equally as bad or worse everywhere on repeat.

Around me homeowners that don't have sidewalks will fight tooth and nail to keep from getting them. I have to clear snow from my sidewalks but somehow not having concrete absolves them of the responsibility of making a path.
