I am wearing fleece lined leggings that I picked up at Costco a few weeks ago and I'm in love - so comfortable! And I think they look reasonably decent as work pants since the outer material is a bit nicer herringbone material.
I just realized that I have no plans for Christmas cards this year, so I guess I'm just not doing them. I really don't have time to deal with them in the next week and by then it's probably too late. I usually do enjoy them but I guess I'll see if I or anyone else misses them this year.
You could do New Years cards if it something you really enjoy doing! I have a friend that goes that route.
Is a daily probiotic worth taking? I don’t have any particular issues, but I keep hearing about the amazing good effects of them on skin and general health. If they are actually worthwhile, any specific recs?
Yesterday was such a good day, I got news about my bonus and it is really great this year. It's been a very busy year of doing stuff that is "not my job," so it really feels good that this is being recognized.
But I swear, I'm even more happy that my stepmother finally decided to move into a retirement place. It's been so difficult. She's depressed, which totally stops her from actually doing things she agrees she wants to do and would be good for her. And I'm just on the sidelines here, the responsibility is all on my stepsister, J. Well, J finally called the retirement place to get some appointment times, called her Mom and said, "11 or 2?" And stepmom didn't balk, went on the tour, and liked it and put down a deposit on the spot. She'll have an apartment right next door to a friend. J and I are so incredibly relieved, we can't stop messaging each other.
TV rec! A Nearly Normal Family on Netflix is really good! If you're into mystery/thriller, especially those of us that like foreign ones, I highly recommend it. It's Swedish but dubbed really well. TW- ep. 1 has sexual assault.
I made apple bars last week and froze them and they thawed beautifully and are delicious. Thanks to GBBO, I keep calling them a “tray bake” to make my H laugh.
I just finished my rewatch of Parenthood - still loved it. I forgot what a tear jerker the last couple of episodes are! Now I have to find something else to start. I think I'm going to do some cheesy holiday movies before starting another series.
Yesterday the new school board was sworn in for our neighboring SD. It’s made national news bc it had previously been overtaken by Moms For Liberty who pretty much tried to turn it into Gillead. This past election Dems swept the seats and purged MFL, which is pretty remarkable bc it’s not a bluey blue area. The new members swore in on a stack of books the old SB had banned. Savage!
Our school board sounds like your former board: the last two elections have brought in new members who are heading down that path. The most recent is the measure a board member introduced a policy to add "Victims of Communism Education" to the curriculum, and to recognize a date as “Victims of Communism Memorial Day” for 6-12, even though History classes for 6-8 only cover up to the Civil War. It's really thinly veiled and def rage inducing. The proposed curriculum was not written buy the state BOE, but instead by GUESS WHO?!
I pray for an outcome like yours at the next election, but it seems unlikely.

Ours has 2 new members who are supporters of MFL. They have proposed a "controversial book" section that requires permission from parents to access. You can pretty well guess they want all LGBTQ books in that section. I'm hoping the other board members vote this down, but why are they even entertaining it? Also hey 13 yr old girl you have to carry that baby to term, but also you need your parent's permission to check out a book referencing sex.
This gave me a much needed laugh today. Glad to hear your success story, lol.
eb777888, I haven't seen the show, but loved the book. I think maybe I did audio and text? Either way it's worth a read/listen.
charlatti, I've taken pill probiotics in the past. I can't say they did a lot, but they didn't hurt? I started them because someone at work said they're good for boosting immunity, and good to take before you go on a plane or somewhere you might pick up a bug. #helpful

As a government person who has to deal with ridiculous request, we often have to entertain something, even if it’s ridiculous, because the request or met the legal requirements when they asked. And then it makes the news that “the government is considering banning XYZ.” Legally, we have to consider it, but it is only a ton of busy work to say “nope.”
donutsmakemegonuts, I told H that instead of presents let’s just have a nice date night. We tend to buy whatever we want so it makes it difficult to get a great present. Lol.
I'd been asking for dinner at a restaurant without a kids menu for years. Still haven't gotten it.

In a random series of events, my kids may be going to visit my parents on Maui for the first week of January. H and I would have a week home alone for the first time since 2018 and only the second time since we've had kids.
I'm really trying to hide my giddiness and am hoping both kids agree to it. 9 yo is already in. 14 yo I thought wouldn't want to due to her anxiety, but surprised me by saying yes on our ride to school this morning.

My social security disability tele-hearing went better than expected! Yesterday, my lawyer kept reiterating to me how difficult it was to win a case if you’re under 50 years of age (which I am) but was much more positive after the tele-hearing occurred this morning.
And I randomly got assigned to a new judge, who Lawyer says is much more moderate / middle of the road than the previous Judge assigned.
It’s to early to cross my fingers yet, but I should have a final decision in the next 4-6 weeks. I pray to Saint Raphael nightly (patron saint of bodily ills) because I know since he delivered comfort to me while I was battling MRSA and subsequently E.Coli, he will get me through this also! #CradleCatholic

DS had a toileting accident at school yesterday. He hid it until aftercare where his favorite caretaker noticed something was wrong and got him cleaned up. She got in trouble for it because "6 is too old to need bathroom help".
For a typically developing child it is, but DS is developmentally delayed. Aftercare knows this as its the same facility where he attended daycare, preschool, and summer camp.
His OT is composing a letter and I emailed the director, but yesterday afternoon was tough. My poor boy was so scared to say something and I'm sure he was embarrassed. The provider is beside herself.
All this sent me into an anxiety/depression spiral. Ugh.
My SIL is pretty much chronically in BEC territory for me but sweet goodness she is really pushing the limits these days. I feel bad but I'm REALLY hoping that something comes up and she can't make it to my kids b-day party this weekend. At least there will be enough people there that there will be a buffer so I can be a welcoming gracious host and say hello and then stay away. Jesus take the wheel...
I need an idea for small gifts for kids friends. We have kids coming over this weekend to decorate cookies and I’d like to give them a little something. They’re moving soon so I don’t want to add to clutter but since we’re decorating cookies, I don’t really want to give candy. I’m at a loss!
is this like for a Christmas present? Whenever I've had friends moving but doing a bday party I've given a small wallet with a gift card for ice cream and a few dollar bills. Kids always love cash and ice cream lol.

The county exec just granted all county employees the day off on the 26th. I had planned on taking leave that day so I quickly cancelled that. We didn't think he would grant any extra days off because he is newly appointed (within the last year) and seems to be more of a hard ass than our last county exec, so I'm happily surprised.

And I am celebrating my positive tele-health experience by indulging in a Russell Stover dark chocolate + marshmallow ornament sweet while reading a People magazine!
I’m not a very deep and complicated woman, but I’m cool with my choices! 😎

Mine too. I was so happy when she said we won't see her for the holidays. She lives 10 hours away, so that means another year without her. Yay! She is using up all her vacation time in Oct 2024, so we might be able to skip her for 2024 holidays also!
