I worked from home this week so this was my last late morning wake up and I couldn't go back to sleep after my husband got up at 5:30. My Covid seems to be improving and now feels like a bad cold so I guess that's good. Maybe we can have a decent weekend. I have a lot of work to get through today but we're closing at 3pm and I will be logging off promptly!!
No. No sleeping in, because arriving for an MRI at 6:45a 30+ minutes away required me to get up at a stupid time. When I made the appointment weeks ago, the choices were 7a and 10p. WTF?

I let my kids have their 3 friends (my bff's kids) sleep over last night. We don't usually do anything for New Years since we go back to school the 2nd, so I figured might as well let them get the up all night in now so they can have time to recover. Dh, who went back to work yesterday and had to be up at 5:30 today, was not happy with me. They were loud all night despite us thinking they would just chill in the basement and not be too loud after we asked them not to past 10 PM. Also, I told them when they wanted to finally crash, to go to one of the bedrooms or the basement since dh had to get up for work, and dd and 2 of the kids listened, but ds and 1 of the kids ended up on the living room couch, so ds was woken up by dh getting up and now me up feeding the dogs and whatnot and he is refusing to go up to his room or anything despite me hearing him up at 4 AM. Oh well, he's 14 so I think he can handle 1 night of no sleep at this point.
I just woke up. I’m usually up by 6, sleeping in for me is 7:30 at the latest. I’ve been sleeping so late and have been exhausted. Even though I was barely sick with Covid I’m wondering if this residual.

I slept in a bit, but I do have to work today and have a few things I need to get done.
MIL texted me last night to ask if DD liked the necklace she got from great-grandpa (MIL's dad) and his wife. I know that DD did not like it, but I also don't fault great-grandpa & his wife for not knowing what DD (12) would like, especially since we're not close with them and don't see them often. (They also have 17 great-grands, so 1) they don't have a ton of money to spend on each great-grand and 2) I'm sure it's hard to know what to get each that they might like.) MIL included in her text that if DD didn't like it/doesn't want it, that MIL would take it. Not even an offer of getting her something to replace it, just that she would take it off DD's hands. I politely texted her back that DD will keep it. I can't imagine the shitstorm that would happen if we did give it to MIL and then she wore it around her dad and stepmom (because MIL would definitely do that, and throw in a comment about DD not liking it). I mentioned in another 'randoms' post this week that MIL loves to sow discord in the family. Here is another example.
We’re at the beach with my parents. I slept until 7 when the dog wanted to go out.
Not sure of the plans today. There is a local clothing store that is all half off, so I’m hoping to get DH up there to look at some clothes. My mom and I stopped in yesterday on a whim and I wished DH was with us.
We taught E how to play phase 10 and have created a monster. She is obsessed!

Getting an MRI is a very weird experience.
I had an MRI this morning too. It was supposed to be tonight, but they called yesterday and asked if I could come in at 8. I could, so I took the earlier slot. Bonus is that there’s a Dunkin Donuts on the way back so I’m stopping for donuts. Not that we need more sweets, but I’m sure H and C will appreciate it.
I'm in Chicago with DS12 visiting BFF and her family. I'm feeling kind of antsy so I think we should get out of the house today but idk what to do. We are here about four times a year between both my and H's family and have been on that schedule for DS's whole life so he's done most every touristy thing and just wants to sit around playing Switch. Humph.
I went out with my girlfriends last night and my stomach hurts today from laughing so much. We hadn't all gotten together since 2019 so it was fun catching up. We discussed doing a girls trip in the fall and I really hope it pans out. We used to do them every year, pre Covid.
No one on my team is working today. I have a few emails to respond to and a bit of catchup work to do from being off, but besides that I'm hoping to finish my book, get some laundry done and a workout in. So, being productive, but not workwise.
We have no plans for NYE and I've asked H and DS a bunch of times what they want to do. We always stay home, and I figure that's what we'll do this year... but I'd like to have a plan, at least food wise, so I can get to the grocery store early tomorrow morning before it's too chaotic. I'm thinking something easy, like homemade make your own pizzas. And maybe a fun dessert.

We are up early preparing to drive 9 hours to our friends’ ski cabin. It should be really fun once we get there - and I just hope today isn’t too miserable!

Got up at 7.30am, but did go to bed around 10pm so it was a good long sleep for me. Dog was happy I was getting up (I had an alarm set for 8.15am since the dog walker was doing the morning walk this week, anyway).
So far today, I've gone on a dog walk into town (our village bit of London), done some laundry, cleaned up a bit of our upper deck and just relaxed by going out for coffee with my H. No plans for the rest of the day. H is doing some cooking in preparation for friends coming over tomorrow.

This is a weird gem in the city: imss.org/plan-your-visit/. It should be good for a 12 year old. Or maybe take the Metra to Naperville and explore. Lots of stores and restaurants

DD had a 7:30 dermatologist appointment. I thought it was in person but then they sent an email and a text about downloading the app and doing online checkin. So I assumed it was online. At 7:29 I finally get the app sorted out and it says in person! Luckily I called and they could just switch it to online but UGH.
Today my main goal is to refill all the prescriptions since we've met our deductible. That will include either 2 or 3 different pharmacies and will probably drive me to drink.
I’m technically working, but I’m going to totally phone it in. Half my team is off, as are most of our internal clients. Can’t get much done so I’ll be reading magazines.
My DH is super stressed about work and couldn’t sleep last night. I got up to pee at 4:30 and asked if he wanted to talk. Been up since then. Glad we are coming up on the weekend.
The Holdovers comes out on Peacock today so we will probably watch that tonight or tomorrow.

I'm up and working. Looking forward to a 3 day weekend. And today should be slightly better/easier than yesterday since my boss is off.
We leave for our cruise in 9 days and I cannot wait. I was a little worried about taking an entire week off in early January (I booked this before my promotion, when my work load/cadence was a little different) but after yesterday, I feel much better about it. Yesterday, i had to tell my boss that I needed to delegate a project b/c I had too many deadlines of 1/5, and then i was going on vacation, and he was like cool, do that. And then he made a comment about being jealous that I was getting a whole week off without easy access to wifi (not in a malicious way, he's truly a nice guy), and told me to enjoy vacation.
I should probably spend some time this weekend making sure I have everything we need for this. We have all the important stuff, but I want to make sure I'm not running around like crazy next weekend.
We do an annual themed NYE movie marathon/game weekend so that’s been dominating my days. This year the theme matched up with easier food than usual so that’s nice but I really miss Netflix DVD! It was a key component of this event since a surprising amount of movies aren’t available streaming. It is a way more tedious process than before—there so many channels. This year I can’t find Easy A and the original Hairspray but I was able to find some 1960s British and French movies??
I still have not figured out a dessert/sweets yet. I might give up and buy something on-theme instead of making it like usual.
This is one of those things that is always fun when it happens but this day is when I wonder why do we do this?
Mine was on my broken left foot/ankle, my gift for a couple of falls in the last 18 months--I am super klutzy. You'd think I'd learn to slow down and watch where I'm walking.
tacokick, that sounds super fun! I totally hear you though on the planning side--why do we agree to do these things again?
We're doing Hibachi and game night for NYE this year (it's what we did last year, too--guess it's becoming the go-to). My one bestie is going to a football game so she's going to come late; H said that he's getting her HTG--Hibachi To Go. lol

Up and at work. Looking forward to a three day weekend, even though I was just off for 5 days lol. I have definitely gotten off my schedule so these last two days have been a struggle. Hopefully I'll be able to tie up any loose ends today and then start fresh in the new year. I also can't wait to open my 2024 desk calendar. It is a doodle one where you can color in doodles on it. It helps my brain when I am on long phone calls.

Thank you, I want to see this. I wish I had a good way to know/remember when things are coming out. I have all of these streaming services and never know what's on.

I got myself a cordless vacuum for christmas and I can’t stop vacuuming. lol. Also my older dog, with bad skin and allergies, sheds so much I kinda want to rehome him. 🤢 (kidding. I love my baby but my god his skin is driving me to bankruptcy)
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
There's literally 4 of us in the office today (of about 23), so we're all leaving at 11:00. What's funny, we have a vacation calendar where you are supposed to put your vacation time in and only 3 people have marked that they are off today. Where are the other 16 people??? It doesn't help that our local NFL team is going to the playoffs for the first time in several years after last night's game, so I'm sure there are plenty of people who called off from watching the game.
I'm "working" today, so up at regular time. Since the kids are still off, and I didn't have to get anyone ready for bus or school, I had some extra time before I logged in, so I made a few dips for tonight. We're getting together with the neighbors to watch some bowl games. I'll save about half of each dip for NYE. It will just be H, the kids, and me, eating snacky food and trying to stay awake. I also got some lobster tails for us, so that'll be a fun treat.
The dips I made: Cowboy Caviar, Cookie Dough Dip, Cannoli dip.
Later today I'll make little party pizzas (the ones on rye bread) and hot artichoke dip. The neighbor will bring a few things, too.

It's such a crappy weather day that maybe you all want to get out because otherwise you'll never want to leave. Conservatory? History museum?
My family had a Covid Christmas, starting with my mom and then moving to my dad, BIL and now me. I have horrible body aches, headache and my classic Covid symptom, insomnia. I had to cancel my nail appointment for today and a massage for tomorrow but luckily I’m off work until next Wednesday. So far DH and the boys are all feeling fine, hopefully it stays that way! This is the first time my parents have had it, BIL’s second time and my third.

Today is technically a holiday for us, but with this software implementation, I'll be working off and on. Thankfully I can work from home. I hope to spend some time on the treadmill and get my house cleaned up.
