It's the weekend, right?
I survived my dad's memorial service. I even gave the eulogy, which I'm pretty proud of.
As a treat to myself, I booked a facial. Of course I woke up with a giant zit on my cheek. It's poppable- should I pop it? Ugh, why am I getting hot flashed and zits and wrinkles and gray hairs all at the same time!

We're having a couple over for dinner (Indian, cooked by my H) and their dog, who is one of Cooper's buddies. I've gone all over the ground floor of the house to try to find any chew toy that may be on the floor or hidden under something because Cooper is VERY possessive of his things in the house (not from us, just other dogs) and will go mental if Rudy tries to grab/chew on something.

A vent about our healthcare system. I continue to struggle with my diabetes, my PCP is out of ideas and referred me to an endo. The endo and PCP are have a disagreement of some kind and the endo won't set up an appointment for me. I'm over here with a blood sugar of 290 this morning and feeling like crap. Sadly there are no other endos in the area, which is absurd, 1 in 7 adults in Louisiana has diabetes. We need more care options. The barriers to getting care make me want to give up.

DH has decided that he wants to eat less processed foods, so he made me a list of all these fresh fruits and vegetables that he wants when I go grocery shopping. I hope he realizes that this means an increase in our food budget and hopefully it will get eaten and not end up in the trash.
How crazy will the stores be tomorrow? I need to go grocery shopping but I hate the crowds. I'm thinking of going during my local NFL teams game because the stores usually clear out around then. It's an important game that I would like to watch but I think I might have to sacrifice and miss the first half.

Go in the morning and the stores will be empty, Sunday afternoons are always busy here, holiday or not.
Hugs to you, ProfessorArtNerd. That can't have been easy. I hope you really enjoy some relaxation time with your facial.
DS 2 woke up with a fever and a cough, so our plans to have his buddies over are cancelled. They're going to play some video game together over Discord instead, so at least they'll still get some social time.
Christmas leftovers are finally all eaten/thrown away, which means it's time to make a grocery list and cook again. It was nice being able to coast on food I'd already made for the better part of a week.
Despite having everything packed up and everyone being beyond ready to leave, we basically just stood around for another 45 minutes waiting for DH to decide it was time to go before actually leaving the ILs' house, and now 95 of course sucks. WHY?!
So looking forward to getting home to a clean house and getting ready for back to work/school and the new year. I need to get my head wrapped around my new job and how things are going to need to change at work and home with that.
I didn’t grocery shop yesterday. DH is taking the boys to the hockey game tonight, so I’ll go while they’re gone.
I need to get the fridge cleaned out today. We had so much food from Christmas that didn’t get consumed.
We’ve got a busy Saturday. I am going to pick up the boys from MIL. They have haircuts at noon. I want to take DS1 to the tea shop so he and I can sit and read for awhile. While we’re over there, I want to see if the game shop has a cribbage board and DS wants to go to the crystal shop. I also really want to make the King Arthur recipe of the year (chocolate chip cookies with tangzhong), so I’ll probably rope at least one of them into helping me with that. Then errands and groceries later this afternoon. I’m going to stop at Whole Foods and see what strikes my fancy for dinner tomorrow. Maybe crab cakes.

Ds is going to a NYE party. We all offered to bring something as this family always hosts. The hostess’s mom said sure, bring a dish. I was thinking of doing a plate of brownies and an 18-count bag of chips. I don’t really know what else anyone else is bringing and I figure snacks are always welcome with teens. Any other ideas?
I have to work a little bit today and will again on Monday. I’m not terribly thrilled with the email request that came through yesterday, with a deadline of early Tuesday morning. 🙄 I’m tempted to CC my boss and grandboss (their boss) in my reply. Background, grandboss is new and trying to figure out ways for my department to work less outside of business hours.
We have big plans to tackle a garage clean out this weekend, but I’m still waiting for SO to get started. The pup kept him up last night and he only woke up a few minutes ago. I’m ready to throw out all the things!!
My 96 year old grandma was in the ER last night. She got diagnosed with pneumonia again. She just was in the ER and diagnosed with a different kind of pneumonia the second full week of December! So I'm off to pick up her meds at the pharmacy when it opens at 10am. I wish our hospital had a pharmacy attached that was open 24/7. Every time she's in the ER it's late at night and then we can't get her prescriptions until the next day or the day after if she's in the ER on Saturday night because no pharmacies are open on Sundays in my city. Healthcare sucks in the country and especially in my city!
This is a long shot and I don't want to make another travel thread- has anyone stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun? It came very highly recommended from a travel group I'm in but was wondering if anyone here has stayed there. We went ahead and booked for a weeklong stay this summer, but it's refundable if we change our minds.
I am usually riding bikes on weekend mornings. I have no clue what "normal" people do. I got my car's oil changed, took stuff to the city recycling center, and went grocery shopping. We are riding this afternoon instead.

I hope not too crazy, I also have to go get food for NYE tomorrow. I'll probably send H.
Fruit is so freaking expensive! David eats the most fruit and his favorite things are cuties and apples. Those mesh bags of cuties are $7.99!!! It's pains me every time I throw one in the cart, lol. Ridiculous.

I’m annoyed with Amazon. I used the Warehouse to buy DS a marble run for Christmas. It was only slightly cheaper but it was described as “like new” and feels slightly more exo-friendly.
BUT ITS MISSING PIECES. Argh. DS is like “I don’t mind” but I mind….especially be the price has dropped and a new one is cheaper than the missing-parts-warehouse one I bought. Argh. AND it’s the stupid, you have to box it kind of return. Argh.
macmars45, I’m sorry about your grandma and your pharmacy woes.
I’ve been up running errands but had forgotten I’d scheduled a massage for this morning until a reminder popped up. Looking forward to some relaxation.
This afternoon I need to spend some time figuring out my projected leave/vacation for 2024 as my requests need to be in on 1/9. I also have to figure out what’s on the calendar and coming up as I’ve been ignoring all the stuff since I went on vacation on 12/10.
Someone on here recommend yin yoga, and I’ve really been enjoying it. I found some classes on the Peloton App, and I really like the instructors. I wish it was more size inclusive or offered suggestions for people with different mobility limitations, but I’m pretty good at modifying stuff myself by now, so I’ve been able to figure it out. My body is feeling pretty good.

I'd worry about everyone bringing dessert. Did you ask if an app type food or dessert would be better? I think a giant bag of Totino's Pizza Rolls would be a nice hostess gift for someone who routinely hosts kids. LOL

Do you have an aldi? I never pay more than 3.49. My son eats a ton of fruit, only fresh. i don't know what I would do if not for Aldi. Great price and variety with apples too.

I have Covid for the 2nd time. I started showing symptoms on Christmas evening. I felt horrible on Tuesday. I’m a lot better but still have headaches and so much congestion/sinus pressure. Symptoms have definitely lasted longer this time than the first round. My youngest has it I think but hoping my other kids don’t get it. 🤞🏽
I've made myself a big long to-do list, that's 90% things I need to do for my volunteer work. I've been putting off sending some emails that really need to go out, which is dumb, because it will take me probably half an hour to send all of them (3 emails about 3 different things, maybe 10 minutes per email to draft them and find the right email addresses). I'm just being lazy and procrastinating.
The other stuff will take longer and is a pain in the ass though, so the emails have gotten lumped in with that.

I think an easy to bake frozen app is a great idea, but I could also see someone being like"thanks for making me do the work of cooking your stuff ".
But then I tried to think of a cold bite size appetizer and I can't think of anything that seems appealing to teenage boys. Only stuff like caprese skewers.
What about a plate of sandwiches cut into little pieces or a tortilla rolled up with cream cheese and something else, cut into bite size pieces?
We are hosting a party Friday, so I planned to spend Sunday and Monday on a deep clean. Not today because I had my saber class this morning, and 2 hours of that wears me out. But H is doing his part today. I supper appreciate it. But Lordy is he loud. It’s like a herd of elephants. He is doing the floors, and drug out the janitors mop and bucket an is rolling it around the house and running it into things. Pushing furniture around and just generally doing a good, but loud job. Boy cannot do anything gently. Plus the vacuuming just triggers my sensory everything. I should probably leave the house, it might be best for both of us.

I was joking meaning an actual hostess gift, for their freezer. LOL We have a Philly Pretzel Factory which is perfect for this kind of thing, but it is hard to bring something since so many things would be served warm.

isabel I made them. I didn't love the recipe. The cookie is fine but one-dimensional in terms of flavor for me. That surprised me given all the techniques in the recipe.
