Add me to the "blah its Monday and I want to cry" chorus. I was back last week, but it was only a 4 day week and it was relatively quiet, but it's going to ramp up and be much busier soon.
We had a nice cozy weekend. Homemade pizza Friday night, Saturday we had a little snowstorm so we had fun playing in the snow and then taking a walk to dinner, and yesterday we played in the snow some more and just relaxed, watched TV, and read. It was nice to not have to be anywhere after all of the visiting and driving we did over the winter break.
It looks like we're getting some other winter weather tomorrow - snow in the AM and then rain/flooding in the PM, so we'll see if the district calls their first virtual day or not. I guess I better enjoy my alone time today since I may have H and DS here tomorrow lol.
One of the neat features in my new car (Subaru Ascent) is I can get a real-time read out of the PSI in each tire. Makes it very easy to check if I get an alert if one is way different than the rest.
Mine is a 2013 Forester due for replacement in the next couple of years, and this is one of the features I'm looking forward to! DH's 2023 Crosstrek has this and it's definitely come in handy.

Add me to the list of first day back to school cancelled by snow. Oh well. The weather reports were predicting 3” initially, and proceeded to get worse and worse as we got closer to today, so I knew it was inevitable.
We spent Saturday at my inlaws celebrating Christmas and my tolerance for them has soured over the years. My MIL is a third adult in my SIL's house so I used to chalk it up to just jealousy on my part. SIL gets so much help and whenever we ask for any, it's completely dependent on whether or not SIL's schedule will allow it. But now it's more than that.
We got up there Friday night and after a few drinks, I noticed that a grandkids frame that I had given them didn't have a single photo of our kids. Just my nephews. Also, we had this celebration so late in the season based on SIL's other obligations with her DH's family had her exH, and then it came out that our oldest nephew wasn't even going to be there in the morning -- he had football or baseball something or other and we wouldn't be opening presents until nearly the afternoon.
We pulled our oldest from her $$$$$$$$ ballet class that morning, which she didn't have the previous weeks, to follow what we thought was the schedule. So I was all around salty. DH brought it up with his dad in a, I wish we had known this so we could have made different plans kind of way, and the amount of wrath he unleashed solidified that we are external family and SIL is internal family. How dare we question.
When we did open presents, it turns out FIL stuffed my youngest's stocking full of candy with nuts or made in a facility, and he has an almond allergy and has for nearly his entire 10 years of life. When we simply asked to check the label, FIL threw a tantrum like we should all just be grateful he did anything at all and appreciate the gift.
I could go on, but it's a lot of bitch eating crackers from me and general rudeness that I've just overall reached a point where I'm over it because of the cumulation. Blah.
At least DH and I are on the same page, he wasn't able to see it in the beginning, but he sees it now. My family has its own level of crazy but we've enforced boundaries along the way and now we're in a pretty manageable place. I need a long pause from my inlaws.
I am mourning the loss of inexpensive kids clothes now that my 5th grader is firmly in the women's shoes camp. I'm 50/50 on girls vs. women's shirts and I just put a women's small fleece lined leggings in my cart for her.

I just upgraded from a 2017 Forester. I'm really impressed with the updated tech in the 2023. I had an aftermarket radio in the Forester because I refused to live without Android Auto, so it's less of an upgrade than it "should" have been and I'm still impressed. The seats are SO much more comfortable as well. Did YH get the 360 degree backup camera? That's my favorite new feature!
ssmjlm, it is the worst but I comforted myself with the magical time that the shoes my son wore like once fit me instead (I have a few pairs from that time) and now we're pretty much exactly the same size, so I'll just keep his sweaters and hoodies and t-shirts that aren't too ugly lol.
My job is going through a massive overhaul and a lot of it is still very vague and unclear as far as what my responsibilities and projects are going to be. Therefore, I am not working on anything new and so the only work I really have is handling issues/bugs/complaints on my current projects and I'm starting to feel like a fucking customer service rep and I am NOT cut out for that and it's really wearing on me.
And H is still sick with his cold (not Covid and doesn't seem bad enough to take him to get tested for the flu) so I've been the primary adult in the house handling the dogs and whatever needs to be done and I'm over that, too. The only bright spot is sleeping alone so I can let my iPad play as long as I want and nobody is snoring.
It feels like much of the time my kids just bicker. But I overheard the following last night so maybe they do like each other.
Son: [tells daughter about some kid who picks on him] Daughter: what's his name? Son: I can't tell you that, you'll murder him. Daughter: I'll only LIGHTLY murder him. Manslaughter
😆
I've followed up with my son in a casual way and it's not bullying. Just a kid who he sees at lunch occasionally acting like an asshat, maybe 1x/month.
Anyone else notice the USPS has really improved lately? Two friends mailed me packages on Saturday from two different states far away and they were here today before 10 am! It was good all through the holidays too—I sold some things on Etsy and they all received them in 1-2 days despite their selecting the cheaper shipping options.
Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself but I’m impressed!

I just hid in the kitchen to eat a banana. If DD2 sees me eating anything she wants it. I started tracking with WW today and I need my food!
In other mundanity, my word for this year is organize and I’m really pleased by some of the purging we’ve already done. I’m also thrilled to get some artwork on the walls that’s been sitting in a closet for 4.5 years.
Rough Monday all around, it seems. I'm exhausted from staying up late to watch football. At least it's a victory Monday (Go Bills!)
It's freeeeezing in my office today. And we have the alarm company here installing new keypads on the doors for badge entry, so they have the doors opening and closing constantly.

My DD does the same and it drives me insane. I feel like I should be more laid back about it, but I don't understand why she wants to have a conversation about everything I put in my mouth! Just let me eat a bite of food in peace!

My oldest is like this and I’ve just started mocking her. The minute she starts talking about what I’m eating, asking for some, etc., I start singing, “The food police they live inside of my house,” to the tune of Dream Police by Cheap Trick.

No. It was terrible for us over the holidays, and just recently a bill that I sent out a few days before Christmas got 'lost' in the mail and I had to call in and pay by phone and cancel the check because it never arrived.

Dd started feeling sick last night with a sore throat and runny nose, and she woke me at 4 AM asking for tylenol. I never went back to sleep so I'm dragging today. And she tested positive for Covid this morning. I'm relieved that it's dd and not ds because she is much better at handling making up school work, but I honestly have no idea what the school policy is, so I emailed the nurse, but she hasn't responded yet. I would very much like to know if she needs to stay home for a set number of days and/or needs a doctor's note (one of the neighboring districts requires one, my friend just went through this).
I'm dragging this morning too and I didn't even have a busy weekend! My stomach was a bit off this morning so we were late leaving home by about 10 minutes and then I had to stop back at home after school drop off so I was about 15 minutes late to work, which really is not a big deal because I'm normally 15 minutes early (just because of school drop off timing, not because I'm normally an early to work person) and my boss was totally cool about it but it's made me just feel off so far this morning.
Tonight is the BIG GAME!!! Life long Michigan fan (and now they pay my salary so I'm even a bigger fan LOL) and especially after this season we want a win big time. Looking forward to it!
And now the Lions are in the playoffs?!?! It's a GREAT time for football in the state of Michigan!!
I just had to do my first performance review/self evaluation in about 15 years. Why is it so uncomfortable for me to talk about myself? I am determined to not be the good little worker bee girl I always was and I am going after things now, so I did it. But it makes me feel tied up in knots. Counteroffering the salary here almost killed me so I guess this was slightly better!
Oh! I forgot - tacokick, I got my hands on a bag of the hot cocoa/marshmallow chips at Aldi and I was sadly underwhelmed They had basically no taste. I mean H ate the cookies because he didn't want them to go to waste but I was very sad trombone about it all. Did you end up making anything with the ones you got?

I love how I wrote this like I'm being irrational--I'd love to tease, but DD has some anxiety that can come out around food. She thinks all of the "good" food should be split evenly in the house. She's normally a really generous child, but gets really obsessive on this topic. She thinks that everything should be split 100% evenly (no matter preference, appetite, size), other than her Halloween candy (and she would throw a complete fit if she found someone eating it).
This is why I am brutal with my mom when she comes off with diet-speak in front of my kids--I'm terrified that DD will pick it up and have issues just because she seems almost primed for it.
We go back to work and school tomorrow after being off since Dec 22. I don’t know how we will do it tomorrow. We have left the house less than 5 times this whole time because one of us was sick or recovering at any given time. Two weeks lounging and doing minimal housework has been glorious.

It’s the worst. She’s barely 2.5 and I’m sure (hoping?) it’s age-related but I’m so ready to move beyond this phase. I feel like I can’t digest my food properly because I’m constantly rushing to finish before somebody tries to take my food. I’m happy to serve/get my kids food but why do they have to take mine?!

We should’ve gone back to school today but…. Snow day! DH didn’t get the alert on his phone for some reason so he was really confused why I wasn’t getting up and ready for work.
Hopefully I can get ahead for the week on my college stuff? Or maybe I’ll just be lazy for one more day!
I FEEL you. We survived a week of in-laws visiting, and have both agreed SIL and her family are never staying with us again.
A single highlight: H and I are cooking dinner for the whole group. SIL comes in to the kitchen and starts clipping her fingernails directly onto the kitchen counter.
H: what are you doing??
SIL: clipping my nails, obviously
H: I can see that, why are you doing it *here*? It’s inappropriate.

GO BLUE!!!
My bestie ended up getting tickets and took a last minute trip to Houston. I'm beyond jealous.

I did! I made chocolate malt cookies with them. I was tempted to make regular chocolate chip cookies with them but after tasting them I thought they needed a more flavorful dough. I felt like they did taste marshmallowy but it was pretty mild

Holy crap how did she manage this?? DH is a lifelong UM fan and looked into going and for him it would have been an $8k trip with tickets, flight and hotel. And that's WITH an alumni discount from a family member. I'm jealous in my H's behalf, lol
