Anyone else notice the USPS has really improved lately? Two friends mailed me packages on Saturday from two different states far away and they were here today before 10 am! It was good all through the holidays too—I sold some things on Etsy and they all received them in 1-2 days despite their selecting the cheaper shipping options.
Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself but I’m impressed!
No. It was terrible for us over the holidays, and just recently a bill that I sent out a few days before Christmas got 'lost' in the mail and I had to call in and pay by phone and cancel the check because it never arrived.
DH found out a few months that his brother talks to MIL and FIL every day!!?? And we're trying to figure out how he has anything to talk to them about considering FIL never leaves the house and MIL tells the same stories over and over.
DH goes "I barely want to talk to them 1x a week! What they hell are they talking about?" And I said it just reinforced that BIL is just a man child.
My friend taped an episode of a tv show a while ago and it's finally airing tonight. He's having a watch party at a local bar and I'm so excited to geek out over this together.
bex1973, pumpkincat, mel, - Go Blue! I have to remember to give Donny trazodone with supper because he gets really anxious when H gets even the TINIEST bit excited during a game lol

I mean, maybe your BIL is. But I don't think someone talking to their parents every day necessarily makes them a child. My mom did it with my grandmother and while I can't manage every day, I try to talk to my mom every other day or so. It's not so much to get new information, but just to check in and make contact. Maybe it's because her mom was and my mom is alone? I don't know. But it's more for the parent than the child usually.
My bestie ended up getting tickets and took a last minute trip to Houston. I'm beyond jealous.
Holy crap how did she manage this?? DH is a lifelong UM fan and looked into going and for him it would have been an $8k trip with tickets, flight and hotel. And that's WITH an alumni discount from a family member. I'm jealous in my H's behalf, lol
I am not entirely sure!!! She found tickets in lower bowl for $1300 which was a "good deal" And her hotel isn't crazy expensive. Row JJ, seat 9 (purely by chance for McCarthy)!! Hopefully good luck!!
My H is a UW fan and it irrationally annoys me so I’m not looking forward to the game tonight, especially if they lose. My degree is from the rival state school but I never lived on/near campus and feel zero affiliation as an alumni, so it really shouldn’t bother me but he didn’t go to UW either and I don’t understand why he likes them so much.

LOL! We’re strictly a WSU house, but even I’m excited for the dawgs today! Growing up, UW was local, so that was the default preference, so maybe that’s why he’s so into them? Idk, people are weird about sportsball.
Oh! I forgot - tacokick , I got my hands on a bag of the hot cocoa/marshmallow chips at Aldi and I was sadly underwhelmed They had basically no taste. I mean H ate the cookies because he didn't want them to go to waste but I was very sad trombone about it all. Did you end up making anything with the ones you got?
I did! I made chocolate malt cookies with them. I was tempted to make regular chocolate chip cookies with them but after tasting them I thought they needed a more flavorful dough. I felt like they did taste marshmallowy but it was pretty mild
What do you make with them?
Standard choc chip cookie dough which I normally do with "flavored" chips but I should have done something different!
I FEEL you. We survived a week of in-laws visiting, and have both agreed SIL and her family are never staying with us again.
A single highlight: H and I are cooking dinner for the whole group. SIL comes in to the kitchen and starts clipping her fingernails directly onto the kitchen counter.
H: what are you doing??
SIL: clipping my nails, obviously
H: I can see that, why are you doing it *here*? It’s inappropriate.
SIL: at least I cleaned it up!!
I'm speechless. Who thinks doing that in the kitchen vs bathroom is a good idea, never mind in someone else's house! Also good to know to never eat food she makes. Yikes.
I’m trying to prep for 2 classes I’m doing this week. One is review of clinic, one is intro to clinic. It’s a LOT, but I think I’m ready…ish.
My new coworker is off today and tomorrow. I need to discuss some things with her about her job performance & priorities. This will be a difficult conversation, but she needs to be present when she’s here! I have a daily task list of 3 projects, and she frequently doesn’t do them. Her patient interaction is abysmal, and I’m not sure that I’m comfortable leaving her by herself yet. She should be there, but she just kind of does whatever. So, that’s Wednesday morning first thing. :/

So Jealous!! I'm an alum and staff member and couldn't get discounts to make it reasonable to even think about going! But I'll be just as happy to watch them win from the comfort of my home!!
One of the neat features in my new car (Subaru Ascent) is I can get a real-time read out of the PSI in each tire. Makes it very easy to check if I get an alert if one is way different than the rest.
I am being pulled in two very different directions at work today. I was all excited to tackle a particular high priority project. But of course something else has come up that needs my urgent attention. Argh.
I have had my 2020 outback for 4 years now and I JUST learned that I had this feature a month or so ago, lol.

I agree with the other poster who said that this is not necessarily true. I call my mom daily for just 1-2 minutes to check in with her. She lives alone and is nearly 80. I want to make sure she is ok, fill her in on what her grandchild said that was funny that day, just generally help her feel social. And I love my mom. When she passes I will miss my daily call to her.
I'm WFH and my internet is being annoyingly spotty for no reason. I'm trying to download stuff for a training tomorrow and it keeps getting messed up. What a pain!
I should be getting other work done, but I have no motivation since I'll be out of the office at a conference for most of the week. So I SHOULD be productive today, but my brain is saying no.
Has anyone visited the Grand Canyon (AZ)? I'm wondering how many days will cover a good experience. We did Yellowstone in one day. Would that work for GC? It doesn't seem like a national park where you can do a lot of different activities.
TR, shauni27, that is possible. He has work and a long term girlfriend. So per FIL most of the calls are complaining about money and her, but FIL reminds him he let her move in.
I guess I'm astounded because I typically text my mom a few times a week, she's more likely to wait until the weekend to call because she knows we have kid activities 3 nights a week, one night we have 2 things almost back to back.
MIL is a whole other issue that I've posted about before and won't rehash.

LOL this type of fan was my "things you think are dumb" contribution on the other thread.
I know a ton of die hard Virginia Tech fans who didn't go to tech or college. I'm trying to wrap my head around where the fandom comes from.

We just went for a morning and got our fill checking out a few vistas.

we went for I think 3 nights. We "camped" in an RV inside the park. We arrived late in the evening on night one, so the next day we explored, did little hikes (we were with a 5 year old) and got familiar with the park.
The next day we got up super early and took the park taxi service to the grand canyon airport and took a private plane ride through the canyon down to antelope canyon. We had a private tour for that and then we rafted our way back up the river towards the Grand Canyon. It was a full day, and was SO fun, well worth the money we spent and was an experience I will never forget. Again, we did all of this with a 5 year old.
The third day we explored the museums on site, the little (huge) gift shops, did some more hikes, took the train around the park and went to where the rangers told us the best sunsets were viewed from, etc.
It was the perfect amount of time and truly was incredible. We did Vegas in a fancy suite to bookend the trip to make up for the camping I had to do while there

I was very surprised there were no recipes on the Nestle site for them when I checked because normally they do that for new products! Especially for ones that are a little “different”.

Were they Nestle? I was thinking they were Bakers Choice?

XH is a big Virginia Tech fan. He grew up in VA, but didn't go to that school. I never got it. I maintain that the Hokies are one of the dumbest team names/mascots ever. I liked the colors, though.

I have a dinner date with Urgent Care! I didn’t think my big toe would need stitches so I’ve been burying my head in the sand for the past 3 weeks. My cousin is a PA, so I bit the bullet and asked her if I could send a picture. She agreed and then asked me why it was so blurry.
It was not. I was the blur.
So now she’s sending me Creed from The Office gifs of “Have you ever seen a foot with four toes before?” memes because of course she would.

I used them in my chocolate cake mix cookies and everyone liked them. The recipe only makes about 2 doz, so the the chips are pretty concentrated in each cookie.

It's probably from a lack of major sports teams in the state. I grew up in Texas (Houston) so plenty of major league sports to choose from but went to college in Oklahoma. I was blown away at the number of fans who didn't have any actual tie to the school until I realized that they didn't have a major league team at the time. School teams fill that void.

I got them at Aldi but they were Nestle. The novelty chips (here at least) are nearly always Nestle at Aldi. They are on the Nestle site but no details.
