The nurse on call was like if you aren't experiencing other symptoms (like allergic reaction), there's nothing to do for a spider bite but ice and antibiotic ointment.
I am leaving today for a business trip. I have meet 0 of the people in person before. And there is a 1" festering bite on my face. I look like I have leprosy.
When I started, I had a giant chunk out of my chin because somehow I cut my face with my own fingernail.
Last week I also had a business trip involving flight + car. My rental slid off the road when I needed to swerve to avoid a wreck in essentially monsoon conditions precipitating many logisical issues (me and the car were fine), so I missed half the meetings.
Meetings including my new boss.
I started 6 weeks ago.
I'm going to get fired. Lol.
"Her? She's late a lot because of alleged car trouble and has suspicious marks on her face always."
A new development in the ongoing illness that has literally spread through our family starting on New Years day - I am now sick and have the kind of cough that makes you gasp for breath and fall over. Every time I cough I pee my pants, so I have basically crafted a diaper out of paper towels and this is my life now.

My H keeps buying the wrong oat milk for me. I have one vastly preferred brand. It is what is always in my fridge and I have literally brought it out and said "this is the one I like the others aren't as good, please either buy this or don't buy anything."
I'm drinking subpar oat milk in my coffee this morning because he bought the wrong one again. 😥

I am trying to keep my head above water. Not literally, but ...
We found a water leak behind our shower last week, so our master bath, closet and bedroom are suddenly and indefinitely unusable. Everything is ripped up, industrial fans have been running and will be until at least tomorrow, and DH and I moved into our guest room. (At least we have a guest room to move into!) This part of the house is all original/built in 2004, so we are going to suck it up and upgrade while we also take care of the repair. Which basically means a gut of the bathroom and closet, and a complete re-do of the bedroom, too. Completely out of the blue.
Work is busy and prepping for the biggest event of the year/a week in Barcelona. It's middle school musical season and we have five and a half weeks until the show (which is the weekend after I get back from Barcelona). Now we have to throw in a major renovation on top of that, DH and I just met with the first of several contractors this morning.
This is just so much. I am not sure that I will get through March without a major breakdown of some sort.

gretchenindisguise rehome. That kind of basic carelessness bugs me so much, especially because then often the other person tries to act like you're overreacting. Yes, it's just oat milk, but I have freaking TOLD you!
DD slipped on some ice this morning and her knee dislocated again. This is the 8th time this happened since Summer 2021. After PT, and MRI, and consults, it was recommended that she does not get surgery. And yet here we are again. furious and frustrated. Messaged her drs letting them know this happened again.
This, of course, prompted me to inquire about the status of her getting on my health insurance (Jan 2nd, I discovered through an error she was not listed after I opened enrollment last Fall. I contacted HR, and they are aware and were working on it). I have been emailing HR every other day asking for any updates and it's been met with no response.
I ended up calling the company go between which works with our HR and health insurance companies....they looked and found no indication that our HR department submitted any paperwork to get DD on insurance.
I'm fuming!
I'm trying to be patient and understanding of HR's workload, but this has gone beyond the normal waiting time. Right? RIGHT?

Exactly! If I bring it up he'll get defensive because he's really stressed at work.

This is beyond normal waiting time. You are right to be angry.
silva I would be furious about the HR insurance screw up! Can you go to their office and talk to them in person?
When HR screwed up and didn't add my DS to my insurance plan they apologized profusely and fixed it that same day. They felt awful. When I called them about the mistake I lead with the fact that I needed to refill my DS' asthma medicine asap.

I think the office is in a different city and a majority of us WFH.
I was able to connect with one of the two HR staff who is aware of the situation. They said the other will contact me. I told them the situation and got, "HR #2" will reach out soon. I told them to relay that they can chat with me via TEAMS or call me via TEAMS directly.

Steal his phone, take a picture of the right stuff, and make it his lock screen photo.

This is hilarious and I love it.
I signed the kids up for ice skating lessons and they have an adult class at the same time, so I signed myself up for it too. H taught we how to ice skate enough to get around a rink, but I wanted to learn for real, especially how to stop. The lessons have been horribly unorganized and I hate them. They have 1 instructor for about 25 adults and skills range from can't stand up on ice skates to teens wanting to learn figure skating tricks. The first lesson was 1 hr of free skate, the 2nd and 3rd she tried to split between a beginner and advanced class, but I'm kind of in the middle so I got no attention. Even when I try to ask for tips, she will show me one thing and then skate away. I'm really annoyed and want to quit, but I'm trying to set a good example for my kids. Their lessons are way better with multiple instructors and they split the kids into 4 groups by ability and I wish I could join them! 5 more weeks to go.... I was proud of myself for trying something new and it has been really demoralizing how bad the class is run.

My HR is in a different building than my work (but in my same city at least).
Can your boss reach out? Years ago I was having a payroll issue and payroll was in a different building across town. They were ignoring my repeated attempts to contact them via phone and email. When my boss reached out they fixed the problem quickly.

Good idea, I'm hoping they call me today if not, that's my next step.

Sending healing vibes (and Lysol) to all. Goodness January is so tough and the never ending sickness doesn't make it any better. I'll stop my logical thinking that if more people worked from home you could probably cut down on a tiny bit of that sickness...
This is more of a rhetorical vent...how on earth do people plan 6+ months in advance and not stress and/or just make it work? Technically we have to do a lot of that for DH's job, but often end up just not doing anything during the set time because life happens and ruins it. My girlfriend keeps texting and calling me asking if we're going to host our Memorial Day weekend BBQ, and/or if I'm going to our colleges (::whispers:: 20th anniversary) reunion where the date hasn't been published (but sometime in June). I live within an hour of the college too, so I'm the backup housing if enough people don't stay on campus.
To be fair the weekend BBQ is our one visit a year (basically adult summer camp), and her family only has one car right now so there's a lot of juggling PTO that has to be put in right now, but I don't have the mental space to worry about late May and/or June. I've tried saying just plan around me and if I can go or if we host great, but she won't stop. I know this is just jealousy of people who can have normal lives, but like let it go bruh.
I also haven't bought tickets to the Jagged Little Pill musical (April) and I don't know what's stopping me. DH really doesn't want to go so I think it's just do I buy one ticket knowing I'm going alone (which I know can be really fun), or buy two tickets and then worry about re-selling one (or two) when we get way closer. I think I just don't want to worry about any re-sale.

There has been sickness in my house since before Thanksgiving. First some virus that lasted forever and had me peeing my pants and wearing a paper towel diaper! Then Covid, with paper towel diaper. And now a stomach virus. At least I didn't pee while throwing up? My husband is the one that keeps bringing these illnesses home and he never stops complaining about how sick HE is. Guess how sympathetic I am while I'm stuffing paper towels in my pants.

Is there someone you can talk to about the instruction? This sounds super disorganized.
Isn’t a good lesson for kids to know when something is bad and when to get out? It’s not like you want to stop because you’re bored or something different came along, it’s poorly run and seems like a waste of time and money.

litskispeciality I am annoyed for you. I had a friend ON me about when I was going to get around to planning my wedding, in part because she apparently needed to know literally a year in advance about a potential spring break trip. I finally had to tell her directly to back the fuck off and that I would plan my wedding when I was good and ready to plan it, and if she so urgently needed to commit to the other trip then she should go ahead and do it.

You guys who are peeing every time you cough might benefit from pelvic floor PT. Not trying to make anyone feel bad, just that it doesn't have to be this way!
ETA: My intention is to be encouraging if anyone needs a push, not to ignore that so many people really don't have access to this kind of professional.
