I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the archery range I was working at gave away my hours to some new guy. I went and grabbed my equipment and the owner wouldn't speak to me. The other employees were weird. I have no idea what she told them. It makes me wonder about what she's told me regarding some former employees. I guess I need to find a new place to practice because now it's weird going there.
I feel like I missed the tea! Were you an employee or that was the place you practiced?
My son is not athletic and not big on sports. He does like basketball and he plays rec. The summer leagues is great, winter usually is fine too. This year all games are on Friday nights, almost all at 8pm. Practice is once a week at 8pm. It sucks so much I would love it if he quit. Instead of our Friday night of picking up a pizza, hanging out together and playing a game or watching a movie we will be eating something and waiting to drive in the pouring rain to his game. Friday used to be a celebration and now it's one more chore at the end of a long week.

I'm sorry. That does suck. David has robotics for FOUR hours Saturday afternoon and it's so annoying and totally took over our Saturday Funday vibe we had going. Friday nights would also irritate me.

I was an employee. I worked every other Saturday, it was very part-time. As an employee, I got to use the facility for free and was able to store equipment there. I switched phones, and no longer could access the online schedule, or maybe the owner took away my access, now I wonder. She cancelled me for one Saturday. The next time I was supposed to work I reached out to her and she said she didn't need me. Then I reached out to her again and she said she no longer needed me because a new guy asked for more hours.

The weather here is wild. A week ago it was snowing like crazy and bitter cold, and now it's 75 degrees and I have the windows open. The 10 day forecast shows mostly weather in the 40s, which is more typical for this time of year. It's such a tease that it feels like spring today! But at least we've almost made it through January.
My youngest sister is texting this week about planning a trip for my parents' 50th anniversary in 3 years. Which, yay - she is the one who has been super sick this year so I'm glad she's thinking of something 3 years from now to live for and look forward to. Who knows what will actually happen. But her biggest suggestion is to go on a cruise in Asia. Of all the things we could plan, that is really low on my list of desires lol. We are not cruise people and while there are many places in Asia I'd love to visit, they are all so far away that most are relatively low on my list of priority locations. I had vaguely thought of doing Cambodia/Vietnam that year for our 10th anniversary since we did Thailand for our honeymoon and had wished we had time to stay in the region, but I suspect that what I had in mind won't be something we'd do with 9 people, including 2 kids. So I both love and hate this idea. I guess I won't worry about it much since it's so far away.
Also, we may be naming our dog Spartacus (Sparty). I am not 100% on this name but my H saw it while browsing movies to watch last night and is really gung ho. I do enjoy the "little dog, big strong name" aspect.
On our neighborhood page, I asked for parents to report bullying on the bus to the AP who handles transportation. There are several kids causing problems but it has now turned into the mom of 1 is the bullies getting mad at me for singling her son out. Her son punched my kid last semester and she denies that the school contacted her but I know they did because a) it's policy b) he brought a note and king sized candy as an apology to my son. I never named names or a specific incidence so the only way people know it's her kid is because they saw him choke a kid the other day! She's had a few of her friends message me too and it feels very HS/mean girls.

This stinks, I'm sorry! This would bum me out too. My son is only 7 so we haven't had a Friday night sport issue yet, but I know that if he continues to play sports that time will come and our relaxing Fridays of going somewhere to eat/getting takeout and having a few drinks are over.

followyourarrow, sounds like you're better off...but that sucks and that person is passive aggressive, and unprofessional. Hope you find somewhere new that isn't way out of the way.

dochas woof. I know there are restraints on practice space, (volunteer) coaches and so on, but 8 PM for rather young kids is absurd. Even for high school I don't think most practices or games start that late.
namasteak I'm a bit horrified at the behaviors. We had cameras on the bus way back in my Fred Flintstone days, don't try to tell me that the incident(s) weren't recorded. I would never want to be the parent of a bully, but FFS have some compassion that kids are getting really hurt. That poor bus driver too!
I'm trying to assemble a garment rack for DS's room and I can't figure out the top part for the life of me. I watched the YouTube video over and over again until I finally just gave up.
I'm trying again tonight, but I really just want to throw it out the window lol.
How old is your ds? Can you ask him to put it together himself?
I am HORRIBLE with spacial reasoning and reading directions and then putting things together, and it frustrates me more than almost anything else in the world, so as soon as my ds was able to, I made him my official 'builder' of all furniture type things. I think he started doing major things for me around 10 years old. He likes that kind of stuff, and allowing him to do it gave him a sense of competence that has been nice. Dd is more like me, so when she asks if she can do something, I try to save the simpler stuff for her (like attaching legs to our kitchen stools).
Today has been so gross. First DS lost his tooth while walking to the bus stop so I was stuck holding onto a bloody molar until I got home. Then I pulled some clothes out of the corners of DD's closet to wash...I had no idea what was in her pockets until I realized it was the egg noodles and broccoli in cream sauce we had over 3 weeks ago for dinner that she didn't like. We will be having words when she comes home from school.

OMG, I'm sorry, but this just made me laugh. She just put the food in her pockets? LOL. I'm surprised her room didn't smell rancid.

I left her a message, now I feel sick to my stomach as I never want to accuse someone of stealing but this is way to coincidental. My DS has been collecting cards for a good 5 yrs and some of them he got from Hs now adult nephew so they are old.
I would feel the same way so I'm going to tell you - you're not imagining it, your son's not imagining it. There is no coincidence. He stole those cards. I am really glad that your son has empathy, and it is sweet that he doesn't want the friend to get in trouble. He's a good person! But explain to him that he was robbed and you must react when that happens to you. That he can demand his things back and that doesn't mean he wants bad stuff to happen to his friend.

We painted her room that same weekend so I think the paint fumes covered the smell. It was pretty fossilized by the time I found it!
I think it's less gross then when she wiped all her boogers on the wall next to her bed as a preschooler.

This is so funny! I used to shovel the food I didn't like into my mouth and then go to the bathroom and spit it out in the toilet. I remember lima beans, specifically, ha!

OMG no she didn't!!! When my friend's son was a teen she made boneless chicken breasts one night and was surprised that he ate all of his because he was a terrible eater. Or so she thought until she used the downstairs toilet later and it was clogged, so badly she ended up needing a plumber, who eventually fished out the WHOLE chicken breast her son had flushed in an attempt to look like he'd eaten it.

My mom still talks about putting all the veggies she hated into a potted plant. Did my grandma not notice, blame one of the other kids, or just ignore it?

6 with a gross motor delay. So no lol.
Then I remembered I have to build the toy shelf too. ::sobs::

Omg, I’m sorry but I’m laughing at this. Kids, man. How old is your kid? Please let us know what she says after your words!
wildrice sounds like your DH has really come around on having a dog, that would likely sway me to let him pick the name as long as you don't hate it.
This is my thought, too! I am definitely trying to accommodate whatever he wants regarding the dog since him being here at all was a compromise on my H's part.

Apparently my dad did a version of this too - their dining table had a gap right under it where you could stick stuff, and he used to put his veggies there.

She's 11 so old enough to know better.
She didn't quite admit it, but didn't deny it either. Just told her if I see this sort of thing happening again I would take away her favorite sweatshirt (figured if I said the shirt she put the food in she would just wear her least favorite shirt to dinner!) for a while and that if she didn't like something, don't eat it...hiding food is not acceptable and is gross.
It is funny, I definitely laughed quite a bit when she wasn't around. She's overall a great kid that I often don't know what to do with!
I never got around to the vaccine (50+ for us olds out there) but I'm going to schedule it. Thanks, doc.
I'm super late Gen X so I'm too young for the shingles vaccine and too old for the HPV vaccine. And I'm PISSED ABOUT IT.
This is truly torturous.
PSA: if you can get the vaccine, do it ASAP.
Didn't read all the responses but I follow a urologist on twitter and she was posting yesterday that she *just* finished her HPV series which turned in to a conversation that the age restrictions have lifted. I don't know ALL the guidelines but she was mentioning insurance may not cover after 45 years old but depends on carrier-
