I 100% hate some of the US tax rules. The fact that tax refunds are taxable is the epitome of ridiculousness. If I paid too much in taxes, I should get a tax refund, free and clear.
Our only major plans this weekend are getting together with friends to watch the Detroit Lions game on Sunday night. I need to keep chipping away at decluttering and organizing this weekend.
calamity, it might be worth a call to the mall management to talk with them about it. Maybe their insurance will cover it or a portion of it?
Can’t hurt to try. Has it gone through insurance? I wouldn’t blame the mall. I’m sure they have protocols in place for this kind of thing. But I would call the billing company and see if the cost can be negotiated down if you pay in full or if it can be run through insurance first (then follow up with a request for further reduction).
I booked myself a facial for this afternoon and am looking forward to it.
In a big team meeting yesterday, one of my colleagues ended the meeting by having everyone share something they’re grateful for about the company we work for. She does this kind of stuff a lot, but not usually focused on work. It really got me thinking and has me ending the week on a real high note, both from hearing the team and thinking about my own answer to that question. There have been a lot of challenges and frustrations, but I’m really proud of my own growth and the way our leadership team supports the staff. It’s left me feeling warm and fuzzy.
No, it did not. I did ask about it in the ER, and the billing person told me they pass along my information to the ambulance but they weren't sure of anything else.

I'd start there for sure.
Also - just as a point of reference when you feel ok with refusing care like in this situation you should refuse with the EMTs that respond, I'm sure the mall staff was following their protocol and are not equipped to decide whether or not it's necessary. When H works the road they get refusals often.
calamity so she got on the ambulance and went to the ER?
Yes, she did. Only because they told me it was necessary. I did refuse at first but gave in eventually.
OK. I think you can call to try to negotiate a lower rate. Hopefully no next time, but if there is you can always refuse to use it even after they've been called.
I have shingles. On my FACE. Apparently when I told the nurse on Monday that it was painful, I was insufficiently descriptive. I needed to say burning tingling pain that makes me feel like I'm going to scream. Which is accurate, but I was trying not to be a drama queen. Whoops.
I am now on an antiviral and got some medicine for the pain. But I now have more of the shingles things all over my jaw line and cheek from chin to ear on one side of my face. In addition to being awful to experience, I look hideous.
My new boss is very, verbally pro-camera on for meetings (which doesn’t typically bug me at all). Would you be like camera off "not feeling well" or just straight up say "face shingles?"
Oh, also, don't Google face shingles like I did. I'm now regularly smiling into a mirror to check symmetry because I'm paranoid about facial paralysis.
calamity, I’d definitely submit it to your insurance -especially if she was seen in the ER.
In the ongoing Pokemon saga, apparently DS confronted his friend yesterday and he denied that he took the cards, but 2 of the other friends that were at our house that day say he did. H is ready to go to their house….but poor DS has empathy for his friend and doesn’t want him to get into huge trouble although he still wants his cards back. He actually cried as it’s a lose lose either way. He told friend that he needs to bring a particular card to school today and it will prove whether he took them from DS (it has a flaw on it) but the kid told him he wasn’t going to. I don’t know if I should send a text to the mom even though DS said he doesn’t want to yet. Maybe we’re under reacting to it? I’d want to know if my kid stole someone stuff.

cville - oh, I’m so sorry. Shingles is very painful. My grandmother had it on her face a number of years ago. ❤️ I hope you have something to help alleviate the pain and clear it up soon.
cville - I would 1000% say I have shingles on my face in that instance. That way anyone who also saw you before will know what was up. For some reason I'd rather people know I have shingles than think I had a giant pimple or something, idk why lol

cville I know some people aren’t comfortable sharing medical details, but I personally would say face shingles as it may take a while to resolve and your boss won’t hassle you.
My friend/h’s coworker had shingles on her eye and it was debilitating/ she was out of work for 6ish weeks/

calamity , just call the ambulance company to give them your insurance info and have them submit it. They absolutely have to do that. Four years ago DD had 3 ambulance rides in one calendar year so I learned a lot about the process. Because the ambulance company was considered "out of network", they sent me the bill for the full amount, but the wonderful billing person at the ambulance company called me and informed me of my rights per the state, and told me what to submit to my insurance notifying them that they must process the claim as in network, and it worked. So I knew what to do with the subsequent ambulance rides. Apparently in MA it is law that for ambulance rides the out of network rule doesn't apply because you don't exactly have a choice in an emergency situation which company shows up. Now, the No Surprises Act is in place and I'm pretty sure this would be the case federally.
Sorry about the shingles cville ! I had it a few years ago (not on face) and I'd rather a spider bite. I hope the antivirals help you. Mine didn't spread anymore once I started those. Stay on top of the pain meds.
DH and I spent S-Th in Florida vising family friends we haven't see in 8+ years. We spent 24 hours in a penthouse beach condo doing nothing but reading, eating, drinking, and napping. Now we are back to work and it sucks hard. lol We've already decided it will be an annual thing and we are adding on a couple more days so we can spend more time at the beach. It was the reset I needed to start the year.

Yea I would tell them face shingles. And I don’t mean to scare you, but it may be a while before you are comfortable on camera again. My friend had shingles on her face earlier this year and it was a long recovery. Hers were above her eye, which caused additional issues you shouldn’t have, but even just the shingle itself took a long time to look normal again.
I have a bunch of books earmarked to drop off at Little Free Libraries. I also have some small, word or trivia based games I had reviewed that we don’t play.
Would it be obnoxious to put them in the LFL too? They are complete and at least a couple were duplicates and are still in the original packaging. They would take up the room of a thick mass market paperback. A lot of the LFL around here have quick turnovers and are pretty empty. I’d only put one in each LFL.

I have a cold and told my boss I'm not turning on my camera because I have a red clown nose.

Oh, I know. I'm looking forward to being gross for quite some time.

Not weird at all, we have a LFL and put all kinds of random stuff. Games, art supplies, puzzles, etc are very popular. I use it as a personal goodwill haha.

We got a lot of rain overnight, which melted the 2+ feet of snow we got last week. Now there is water in the basement. It's not terrible, but there is a good sized puddle near the laundry area. So that's a fun start to Friday.
I just booked myself a luxury 2 hour facial treatment at a medspa as a birthday treat to myself. I found a $100 Visa gift card in an old wallet and wanted to use if for something for me. The service is $300, so it's only a dent, but I told H he doesn't need to get me a birthday gift.
We have a surprise party/40th birthday dinner tomorrow night for a friend of ours and I'm trying to decide what to get for her. The restaurant is kind of $$$, so I don't want to spend a lot on a gift. Like $30. I saw a cute Laneige gift set with a full size gloss and mini overnight lip mask, and I know she loves the lip mask. But of course, it's sold out at every Sephora near me.
Today's goal (besides actual work, LOL) is to make a dinner reservation for next weekend when we're in Austin. I want to do one nicer dinner out for my birthday and I feel like we're cutting it close to make a reservation. This trip was booked kind of last minute and snuck up on me. If anyone lives in or knows Austin, I'd take suggestions! We're staying downtown (Hyatt Place) and won't have a car, so will need to rely on Uber. I'm looking for something nice, but not $$$$$, if I can help it, LOL. Since our flights and hotel were all booked with points, I'm not super concerned with spending some cash while there.
I'm off today, slept in a little, got in a good workout, and I'm mostly packed to go away with friends for the weekend. I love this little bright spot in blah January.
No school today, I leave at 11:30, DD has rehearsal at school at noon, and DS lobbied hard to stay home on his own for a few hours until DH gets home from work this afternoon instead of going to school child care. DH and I argued a little about- I thought we should let him, he's almost 11, really responds to being given more independence, and has been fine for slightly shorter amounts of time when DH has been OOT and there's only one of me for all the things. DH relented, but of course now I'm going to be nervous. DH tends to assume the worst of DS though, and I'm confident he'll be fine. He'll keep chat open on his computer so we can check in, and there are neighbors he knows he can go to if there's a problem.

Haven't read the responses yet.
Fire up yer spreadsheets. One of my cats was on my desk this morning and managed to reset the time back 1 hr. The only way I can fix it is to connect to VPN. To say it needs to be the end of the work day/week is an understatement. At least the cat didn't start the stove?
I'm trying to use my tiny bit of down time to craft some winter hats or scarves for my friend who does a take it if you need it drive in Feb. So far I have one hat complete and about 3 rows on a scarf, but I'm regretting a new crochet pattern advertised (Youtube video) as super fast and easy as the puffs are slowing me down. Good exercise in not being so tight with my stiches I guess?
Finally, I ended up having a long conversation with my friend who's been driving me nuts about late May and June plans. I think we got a better idea of what *might* work without disclosing all of my family stuff...but she was kind of aggressive that she'll just say extra days/nights because of her transportation issues. Technically I WFH and we have enough space I can just place in her a room with a TV and do my thang, but I'm a bit taken a back that if a host says "I can have you stay x - y", you don't say "ok well I'll come on x and leave on z". I'll push back when things (hopefully) calm down and offer alternate options to get her out of here on my preferred day or she just can't visit.
At least we had a lot of laughs. We joked about making shirts with an inside joke from college for the alumni weekend event. Think shirts that families wear to Disney. Neither of us have a Circut and I'm too lazy for iron on letters, so I'll have to find another option if we move forward.

I'm so sorry cville ! I'd totally say face shingles, I don't think that's super private and would want to be clear that it was A THING as opposed to just "I think I look tired" since your boss is so pro-camera.
flygirl how old are they? I think that affects how quickly I would jump in. What a little snot (or, if he's old enough, what a dick!) this other kid is.
Speaking of, L got bitten at daycare yesterday by a kid who for MONTHS has been hitting and pushing all the other kids. I know to a certain point it's a normal phase, but like, grow TF out of it already dude. He is not continuing for the next school year which starts in March, and I want him to just hurry up and leave already
