It's a sad morning in MI, following the Detroit Lions loss last night.
I saw statistics shared from a local news weather team that this January has been one of the cloudiest on record, so far (not expecting the last few days to impact it). (I think it said we've had 9% of possible sunshine.) January is always a cloudy month in MI, but it's sad to hear that it's even less cloudy than normal. Definitely makes a long and depressing month feel even longer and more depressing.
It's my first five-day work week since December due to holidays, appts, and other random days off, and I am not a fan.
Nice weekend away with friends, but I always forget that one person in particular has no internal monologue and basically just talks ALL.THE.TIME. Friend, the whole point of this weekend is to get some peace and quiet. We did get really lucky with our plan b Airbnb after the first one had to cancel last minute with a water leak from the third floor bathroom- I already rebooked the one we stayed in for later this summer for a quick trip with my family.
Whyyyy do so many people list things for sale in marketplace without giving any relevant info, such as dimensions for furniture? Does not compute.
ANNOYING. And then if you ask they get all put out.
Our pre-party went really well. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I would actually do it again. Some of the parents even stayed after the kids left which I was not expecting, and it was actually really nice. DD is so happy and her friends are so nice. We've come a long way <3 Not the best pic of me but she looked beautiful.

I am trying to tell myself that the thought of us in the NFC Championship Game a few years ago would have been laughable and damn what a season! But yea, this sucks.

I'm so sorry. It was an awful loss and I genuinely feel for you and the other fans.
My parents actually came to see DS at his sporting event early in the season and DS told them thank you while there and also sent a follow up text saying that he appreciated them coming. My dad asked me to send him the rest of the schedule, which I did. There are now only 2 left in the season, including one this week. They literally sit at home 24/7 and talk to people about how they don’t do anything. I know it’s not the most exciting thing as DS is still one of the newest team members it seriously what else are you doing???
My annual girls trip music cruise starts tomorrow. My flight is in 3 hours. I was going to Uber to the airport, but asked a friend to take me. Considering I had to rescue him twice last week from various car issues, it’s fair. But I have never once asked a friend for an airport ride before. When I lived in VA, I had a friend who was the exact opposite - I’m not sure she knew how to get herself to the airport my herself. She would always ask friends, but she lost my support when she couldn’t give me a ride home from a doctor appointment once.
I’m packed and read. Ride will be here in 45 minutes. But I’m in that awful stage where I’m running around the house wanting to throw more stuff in the bag.
Also, the one thing I hate about traveling this time of year is the jacket issue. It’s 45 and windy here. I’m going to Miami. I have on a thick sweatshirt that I’ll take off for a light jacket when I leave the house. But it’ll be cold for a bit. At least they keep BWI warm inside. So it’s really just between building and car.

My nephew and his SO finally announced this weekend that they are expecting and it's twins. I've known for a few weeks because other people in my family aren't good at keeping secrets and it's been killing me LOL They are young and not really established financially, so I want to try to help them out with as much as I can, so if any of the twin moms on the board have any recommendations for must-have's, please let me know! They do have a 3 year old so they aren't completely starting from scratch.
I had my mom over for dinner and we had some wine, so the plan was for DS to drive her home. It was dark and drizzly and he backed into another car in the cul de sac. DS claims he didn't see the car which is black and was parked kind of in the middle of the street rather than along the curb. Mom was in the car and confirms the lights weren't on. This kid does this pretty often when he drives the teen next store home from practice- he pulls up and they talk in the car before the neighbor gets out. The point of impact was a good 20-25' away from the curb. I brought the kids in to exchange information-- DS is a "young" mid-20's and the other 2 boys were 17, so I had 3 upset kids struggling with their first accident. The other kid had no idea what he was supposed to do next, so I went through stuff and found the information. He called his grandmother-- I talked to her and assured they were fine and it would all be fine. DS was so rattled I sent mom home in an Uber. Nobody is hurt and the cars are both drivable.
I just don't need this today. Meanwhile, mom has a doctor's appointment at 1:30 and wants me to take her to Costco. Ugh
Rough loss for us Lions fans last night - the 1st half looked so promising! But still an amazing season, unlike anything we've experienced for a LONG time!
I need to get stuff organized for our vacation in a few weeks, we do a good job utilizing lists but we need to actually make the lists.
Work is kind of slow right now which is typical for this time of year. You'd think I'd use this time to get ahead on stuff but nah... LOL
I am pretty sure my kid mixed up her am and pm medications yesterday and took her Concerta at bedtime. She kept on coming to our room to tell us she couldn't sleep and then, starting before 5, was begging to go play outside (and then once she could go out, she lasted less than five minutes before deciding it was too cold). She made breakfast at some insane time and banged every dish in the kitchen together.
I'm not looking forward to her coming home this afternoon, she will be a complete disaster.
Soo any suggestions for a pill organizer with a timer or similar???

Kindergarten is not for the weak.
Another kid stabbed mine in the back with a plastic knife, after sneaking up on him in the cafeteria. This is after the kid put him in a chokehold twice at recess 2 weeks ago, threatened to shoot him at the beginning of the year and tried to punch him down the stairs in the 2nd week of school.
And I can't get the social worker or any administrator to respond to emails 🙃

I started a new diabetes med last night and currently feel like hot garbage. It should get better when my blood sugar numbers settle down where they belong.
Looking for dog advice. The dogs get to come with us sometimes, but they think they always get to go and bolt outside the door every chance they get. It's so frustrating trying to leave for work, because they will push their way through the door so they don't get left behind. Then we have to get them back inside. What kind of training can we do to prevent this? There isn't a good way to block off the area to the door.

Do you have multiple doors? Our dog only get to "leave" through the garage. He associates that door with walks, car rides etc. and we never ever take him anywhere without going through that door. So the front door and back slider in his mind, just lead to outside. He doesn't even try to go out unless he has to go to the bathroom (only through the back slider)

sproctopus, That's terrible & I think I would be calling directly.
Last year, a kid choked my then-4th grader in the hallway as the class was coming back from art (with a sub that day so likely all kids were a bit more out of control). My son was twerking down the hall and the kid didn't like twerking so tried to choke him. Luckily my son was with 2 friends who helped separate them.
The principal talked to him right away. My son was shaken up but overall ok and also made a game time decision to leave out the twerking detail in that conversation. Anyway, the principal called me directly within probably 30 minutes to let me know what happened and that there would be consequences for the other kid.
sproctopus, I think I would be at sitting in the lobby level. Who doesn't call right away after the incident is contained, etc? I would have expected a call sometime yesterday from the principal.
sproctopus, wtf! I am so sorry your kid has had to deal with all of that. I know kids acting out like that are likely hurting from something else going on in their lives, but a social worker should be intervening! Allowing that to continue is just awful for everyone. I hope you get ahold of someone soon.
followyourarrow, I've had a dog again for all of 6 days but what about filling a Kong or some other valuable treat to distract them before leaving?
sproctopus! OMG, that is horrible!! how is your son feeling about all of this? poor guy. he deserves to go to school and feel happy, loved, and supported.
Things have felt out of sorts in this house since we brought home our new dog last week - it looks like a bomb went off because I haven't been doing a good job of staying on top of clutter. I need to work on that today. I also have to call what feels like a bazillion places to figure out a vet appt, find a groomer, and find a trainer/training. He's really good overall but we want to work on obedience, especially related to our cat. He is good natured and doesn't seem to intentionally cause problems, but we want to work on recall and getting him to lay down when the cat wants to get close. I found a couple of different classes we could take, but the schedules run into when I'm on my study abroad trip in March and I'd rather not pay for classes we have to miss. And I almost had a groomer lined up, but they wanted to charge $150 which seems insane for an 11lb dog. It looks like there are several options for half that price (or close to half) so I'm going to call around.
Yesterday was a big bummer with both the Ravens and the Lions losing. I really wanted that to be the Superbowl matchup so it's annoying that neither team made it.
followyourarrow,- I'd teach a stay or wait cue. And use that every time. And sometimes they get released to go with you and other times it's "We'll see you later!" and release them as you shut the door behind you.
