We are (finally) moving forward on our bathroom remodel project, and we need to buy a new toilet. DH is for some reason opposed to a bidet (attachments or otherwise), so that's a non-starter. I'd like to spend <$500 if possible. I thought I found one on Wayfair, but it's so hard to distinguish between models and stuff. I will run it by our contractor, but he hasn't been the best at recommending things that are made to last (suggested we buy our shower fixtures on Amazon - we opted for going to a showroom and getting higher end Delta stuff). I want one with a good flush, and that's easy to clean.
I don’t have a model name but we got a tall one - highly recommend. My mom’s contractor did not & it’s so annoying. Even more so bc he “got a great deal” - dude, chill out, you did her no favors w your crappy recommendation.
We got a bidet and it is life changing. It’s just in the toilet seat & your H can completely ignore it. His veto is wrong.
I’ve been happy with our Toto Drakes we put in around 5 years ago. We opted for the elongated bowl but standard (shorter) height since I’m short and hate tall toilets.
We sent our landlord these two links when we needed a toilet replaced. Both Kohler, elongated, and power flush. He got the taller one which took some getting used to but is actually pretty nice. The power flush is amazing, and it's pretty easy to clean (although it does have a very large base and I can never seem to wipe off all the hair/lint that it collects).
Overall we're happy with it. We've had it since October and have no complaints 🙂

we've put Toto Drakes into 4 bathroom remodels in 2 houses over the past 15 years. I'm sure we have a plunger somewhere but I don't know where. We have never needed it.
We bought a one piece Glacier Bay Power Flush from Home Depot for our downstairs bathroom. The one-piece thing makes it a lot easier to clean. It was a little over $200 and supposedly can flush up to seven billiard balls. I have no idea who thought to test flushing billiard balls, and use it as a marketing tactic, but it sounds impressive. We have not tried this ourselves so I cannot speak to the validity of the billiard ball flushing abilities.

Yeah I'm 4'11" so we're definitely going with a shorter version.

We have added a bathroom in our house, redid the other 1.5 baths, and are in the process of redoing our kids bathroom. We have used/will use this Kohler toilet in all 3.5 bathrooms. It’s a decent price point and seems to work well.

We have a bidet seat to go on the toilet, and I'd suggest that he is welcome to not use it! I love the heated seat in the winter, and the nightlight in the bowl means I don't need to turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night.
I'll be 100% honest; it's GREAT for shark week. We did have to pay an electrician to put in an outlet next to the toilet, though.
MH is a plumber and he bought a Glacier Bay toilet when ours needed to be replaced. He isn't generally picky but he absolutely loathes Kohler. He thinks it's really overpriced and that the quality is worse than other brands that are less expensive. He also finds their products particularly difficult to work on.

I was looking at Glacier Bay! I want a Toto but I think with what Glacier Bay has to offer, I don't need to spend the extra $$ on a Toto. That's great to hear!
Our plumber recommended toto toilets (Drake, I think). So far so good.
I just got a Toto 2 weeks ago. I just went with what the plumber bought, it was $688 which included installation. So the toilet itself must’ve been less than $500.

I want to buy a new toilet as well - and want a taller one as DH and DS are over 6' and apparently it's "harder to aim" when the target is so low........ I call BS - but DS is responsible for cleaning his bathroom so that's what it is.

I was the bidet hold out. DH had them at work and it was the first thing on the list when we moved into this house. I humored him figuring I'd never use it... I WAS SO WRONG. I agree to all the reasons listed above.
Our bidet broke recently. It still functions as a seat, but doesn't bidet anymore. And between the two of us, I'm the one pushing for getting it repaired or buying a new one ASAP.
We just re-did 3 bathrooms (completely unplanned) and got the American Standard Champion 4 (elongated seat for Master bath, round for powder room & secondary bathroom). The lowes rep recommended it over more expensive toilets and our contractor agreed it's a popular choice.
We had to replace one toilet and loved our new toilet so much we ended up replacing all of the other toilets too. And DH routinely offers to buy them and install them for his parents and my dad lol.
People with bidets, I'm questioning the temp of the water. We have a tankless water heater. It takes a MINUTE for water from the tap to warm up, it's annoying AF. I feel like I'm gonna get shot with ice cold water but if everyone loves them so much, that must not be the case?
We have 2 Totos and 1 Kohler. My parents have all Kohlers. The Kohlers always require multiple flushes to clean the porcelain after poops (me or the kids, I don't know about the others). The Totos do not require as many flushes.
I don't know what a power flush is. I know that the plumbing place where we bought our toilets told me that because the gallons of water per flush is regulated by law for personal home toilets, all the toilets suck from that standpoint and can require multiple flushes for poop.
Thus concludes my un-scientific research anecdote.

Ours is warm immediately. I don’t think it’s from the water heater, but can’t say with certainty.
CurlyQ284 Both of our bidets are hooked to our cold water pipe. At first, I was all “well, what nonsense is this?” but now I am used to it and it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Will I buy a fully loaded Japanese toilet with all the bells and whistles and adjustable heat controls when I am filthy rich? Yes, yes I will. Do I love my bidet as it is right now? Yes, yes I do.

We have a Toto washlet. It has a warm water reservoir.
sent - I am not a plumber, but my basic understanding is that the power flush is a different mechanism in the tank. Standard toilets use flappers and gravity. The mechanism in a power flush forces the water into the bowl and down the pipe at a much greater velocity. I don't understand exactly how it works, but our new toilet uses less water than our low flow toilet downstairs and we never have to flush more than once. Everything disappears in seconds. It's awesome 😅
The old toilet wasn't low flow, but we were still having to flush multiple times because something from a previous tenant was stuck in the trap. And it took forever to refill.

Ours has a warm water reservoir, heated seat, and dryer. We have another that is just the basic cold spray but I don't use that one.
We replaced our powder room toilet when we replaced the first floor floors before we moved in. Our contractor suggested this and said it was the model that could flush a dozen golf balls without any issues. We got it and haven't had any issues. We're going to replace the rest of our toilets with them too.
