I had the coolest bookish night last night! An author was in town for a signing (see photo below—I don’t want to type her name and have her google alert see it), and she had connected with me on Bookstagram after I reviewed her book, and she is a total delight. I decided to be super weird and invite her to dinner before her signing, knowing she’d say no, but why not?! She very kindly said she had plans but wished she could. At the signing, I told her I was the crazy lady who invited her to dinner, and she replied, “I’m so bummed I couldn’t go! Want to go for a drink after?” And that is how I wound up at a bar with one of my favorite thriller and crime fiction writers, who has sold 2 million+ copies. And she told me her 2027 book idea that her publishers don’t even know yet. Today, our picture at the bar is on her Instagram feed! Best night ever!!
Weird, it won’t let me add a picture. The author’s name is: Cl are Ma ck in tosh
The Arrangement- So far, it's really good. Super quick read. I read half of it before bed last night. It's certainly not going to be winning any literary awards but it would be a great vacation read or plane ride read if you're into thrillers.
I ended up giving this book 2.5 stars. I revoke my recommendation, lol. It started off so good, but the ending was just so crazy it made me mad. It's a series and I don't know if I'll read the rest.
I'm reading Yellowface right now and I'm pretty sure it will be a 5* read for me. I can't put it down. I know people here didn't like it so that tracks, lol.

I *think* we liked it despite HATING the lead character. Lol
I just finished The Blue Between Sky and Water by Susan Abulhawa. It is about 4 generations of women in Gaza. It was so good, powerful, and tear-inducing. Highly recommend

Flew through Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra in one day. 4.5 ⭐️
Super creepy and suspenseful. If you like thrillers, I recommend this one. The author has you questioning if the narrator is unreliable. No spoilers from me; I will just say I’m happy with how it turned out.
krystee, that’s not my favorite genre, so I don’t know who that is, but what a cool experience for you! It’s easy to forget that a lot of faults people are just pretty normal people inside. She probably really appreciated being treated like a real human instead of a name on a book!
I just finished Love Handles. It was a “rom com” with neither great romance or decent comedy. It was free on the stuff your kindle day…and now I know why! Now I’m reading Love, Theoretically. Non-fiction, I started the audiobook “Better Boys, Better Men.” I’ll be starting “ADHD is Awesome” on Tuesday.
Someone mentioned A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, so that’s what I’m reading now. I thought I read it, but I wasn’t positive so I figured it’s worth the reread!
That was my recommendation.
I like coming into these threads at the end of the month to put things either on my wishlist or on holds.
My library said they're a couple years behind on some of their ebook uploads, so there are a lot missing. I put the physical book on my wishlist and occasionally check back to see if the ebook is available.

All of her books are wonderful. Pick up Mornings in Jenin when you’re ready for another one.
I just finished Happiness Falls. Gave it a 2. I found myself wishing I was closer to the end multiple times. She was so wordy and unnecessarily descriptive. Tried to be misleading, but just didn’t really pull it off. The premise was interesting and I appreciated some of the things she wove in related to the youngest character’s disabilities, but meh.
Started Fredrik Backman’s Things My Son Needs to Know About the World yesterday. Will wrap it up tonight. It’s quite short. It’s the only Backman book I haven’t read. I’m enjoying it and there are definitely some relatable bits.
I just finished Darling Girls and Funny Story. I gave both 5 stars. Darling Girls had fun twists that kept me engage. Funny Story is a typical romcom and I flew through it.

That’s my next audible credit when it comes available!! It looks so good
None of my holds were ready when I finished my last book so I had to pick up a random... and then 2 of my holds become available in a span of about 24h!

I kind of want to read this, but it looks so scary! I'll put it on my list because I think I usually love the thrillers you like.
I finished Yellowface and it was so. good. Five stars!
I need to read a KU book next and Jar of Hearts has good ratings so I'll start that one tonight.

I’m struggling with Funny Story. I’m halfway through and am just so bored. I think it’s a me thing.

It’s definitely creepy. But I felt like the pace was uneven because they kept leaving the main action to do flashbacks that only tangentially related.

I read Jar of Hearts last year...I think she was going for shock value for most of the book. I just went to look at my rating in GoodReads, and I didn't rate it at all. LOL

I just put that on my holds. The first one recommended isn't yet available at my library.

Jalapeñomel, I realized I started Rebecca long ago, as another "book I should have read." I just picked it up again. It's not like I put it down because I wasn't enjoying it. A bunch of library books must have come available.

This month, I read:
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna - really enjoyed it
A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult - meh, I've enjoyed her other books much more. Too many characters and the reverse chronological order added nothing to the book
The Phoenix Crown by Kate Quinn and Janie Chang - it was ok. They write well together (couldn't tell that who wrote what), but the pacing was off.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston - I'm probably one of the last people to read this book, but I'm glad I finally did. I have a thing about crazy popular books where I think they probably won't live up to the hype and never read them. But this one did not disappoint. Laugh out loud funny, loved the characters.

I have to be in the right mood for those kind of books. They can be high on the whining and repetitive sulking. It ends exactly as you would guess so you won’t miss anything if you quit.
