TGIF! It's the last day of school before Spring Break. I took next week off even though my mom offered to stay with DS. I was going to work a few days, but I'm beyond burnt out so screw it lol.
Today is a day I'm so glad I only live three miles from work. We have had terrible flooding around here and the schools were cancelling. My route to work was flood-free. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

We had some bad storms come through last night, so I got little sleep because my sweet angel dog is terrified of thunderstorms. She tries to climb on my head and lay behind my pillow while shaking like a leaf. I gave her Trazodone because I knew some storms were coming but it seemed like it barely touched her, so I gave her another since she can have up to two at a time. She woke me up at midnight, settled down a little and then woke me back up at 3:30. Needless to say, I am dragging so I stopped at Starbucks on my way to work and treated myself to a venti iced mocha. TGIF for real.

I was asked to give a talk at a hospital on the west coast and I leave tomorrow. I’m still breastfeeding and didn’t want to deal with pumping so asked to bring my daughter along and a caretaker, so my partner is coming.
I don’t know if I’m regretting that decision now haha. The thought of being at the airport lounge alone and a 5 hour flight while binging a movie and sprawled out in a hotel bed by myself sounds so glorious! Oh well, I think it’ll be a nice little family get away.
I have a meeting in Chicago in June so I think that’ll be my countdown to be done breastfeeding so I can enjoy the trip alone!
I'm hoping to be completely done with performance appraisals today, if the system will work.
And since I'm WFH today I'm working on laundry since I leave Sunday for work travel.
Also, my kid is at the point where she feels more comfortable with some sort of bra/undershirt on. But then she complains depending on what's clean. And I told her that come summer wearing a full cami under a shirt is going to be hot, so I need her to come shopping with me and find some bras she likes that are better for summer.
Today is my supervisor's last day We have a all staff party at noon and then later in the afternoon there is a happy hour thing with just the executive team and her direct reports. I think that will be fun because some of my favorite people who work at my organization are part of that group. But I am not looking forward to my supervisor not being my supervisor anymore! I am going to miss her.
Today is payday which means it's also time to pay our taxes. We owe way too much this year so that's fun - the majority of what we got paid today will go toward that. Thankfully since last month was a 3 paycheck month we're a little ahead so I think we can pay the majority of the taxes without actually pulling from savings (instead of putting that money into savings like we otherwise would have). So lame.

I'm getting married tomorrow!
Yesterday was such a rollercoaster. On Weds the forecast showed rain in the morning for Sat, so we made the decision to put a tent roof over the tables just in case. Then yesterday it changed to rain all day long - fuuuuck. Plus I had a bunch of last minute errands, a few people said they can't come, the normal stresses before a big event. And then on the other hand I got to see my au pair from when I was 6 years old who came all the way from Sweden and my two best middle/high school friends who came from the US, so those were such highs!
I barely slept because I just couldn't fall asleep, then I found out a friend missed her connection and is now getting in tomorrow morning, woke up in the night because FI was coughing, L had a random crying moment... BUT the forecast has changed once again and looks like it'll be chilly but maybe not actual rain, one of the HS friends brought me the little shrug she used for her wedding so I won't freeze, and my uncle who I legit thought might get lost in Panama airport on his way has made it safely, so it's hopefully going to be a good day despite the lack of sleep.

I wfh today but have back to back meetings starting at 10 and 1 client meeting from 1-7 🙁. I have no interest in being ties to this desk for the next 10 hours.
DS (15) took his lifeguarding course over his spring break. He was a lot more excited when 4 of his swim friends showed up and they took the course together all week.
He passed the certification and now he's going to apply to the outdoor pools and work for the town with his buddies all summer.
Moving here was absolutely the right thing when I see it all coming together for him. I feel so happy for him. Having a job will be good for him this summer.
And DD is away with my in-laws. It's so weirdly quiet without her here. This is the furthest and longest she's ever been away.

So excited for you emilyinchile! At this point I hope you can just enjoy and as long as you get to say your vows it will be a great day and anything else that comes together for it is icing on the cake (said by someone who got married a day later due to a hurricane evacuation).
On Tuesday I booked the airline tickets for my kids and I to go on vacation in July. I picked the cheapest option, so there would be a fee if I needed to change. Normally no big deal. But then yesterday I was telling someone about my vacation and looked at my calendar to confirm the dates and realized that I bought tickets for our return flight on the wrong day. Luckily I made it in just under the 24hr mark to cancel my tickets. What a rookie mistake, but thankfully, crisis averted.
TGIF! I had a meeting this morning with one of the HR Directors in my group of internal clients. She immediately stressed me out with a timeline for two different reorgs that they essentially want to do at the same time, which requires time and effort from me and my team (above what we have planned), and I have a very small team. In the meantime, I'm trying to wrap up another huge project with another market in my client groups. I hope my team and I make it through the next few months. (Oh and did I mention that there are two concurrent maternity leaves (on the same team) coming up on another team, so I am sharing a team member from my team to help this other team.) Honestly, I am starting to look for jobs at a senior or lead analyst level (I am currently a manager) elsewhere. I am so burnt out from the pace at this company for the 4 years I've been here, and the work-life balance has not been great, and I think that going back to an individual contributor might be better for me at this point in my life.
ETA: Baseball season has finally started for us. DS and his team are playing a scrimmage game on Saturday. We have become good friends with some of the other baseball parents, so baseball season means seeing friends a lot more often. Plus of course watching DS do something he loves.

We are attending a memorial tonight for a child relative of one of my kids’ friends. My kids were not close to the relative, but definitely knew him, played with him as part of the neighborhood gang when he was over. It is unspeakably tragic and sad. My ds1 feels very strongly about going and I hope he’s prepared for how emotional it will be.
I have double-booked myself today, unintentionally -- I planned a visit to a friend who is recovering from surgery and forgot that I was supposed to drive an hour away to pick up building materials for our theatre program. We worked out a deal two years ago where a local conference gave us all their really nice, large, hard-foam signage after their event -- total win-win, the stuff gets reused instead of trashed and we don't have to pay for heavy plywood. They are wrapping up another event today and we can replenish our supply.
There is a chance I can still do both, but it'll mean I don't have a helping hand with loading. Which I'm not too worried about, but I had looked forward to doing it with one of my theatre-parent friends that I haven't seen in awhile.
Sigh. As usual, doing too much and forgetting half of it ...
A few years ago I bought a snake plant because I had been told they were basically impossible to kill. Well, I killed it - I over watered and it got root rot. I decided to try again and vowed not to overwater. It did well for awhile and then not so much. I googled what was wrong with it and the answer I got was basically “for the love of god, water the poor plant”.
I watered the heck out of it and now it’s so bright green and healthy looking. Within a few days it had new growth. I’m so proud that I brought it back from the brink and tell it everyday how beautiful it is. lol. Now I just have to find and maintain the perfect balance between overwatering and underwatering. The pressure is immense.

(Insert sad face here) Bloodwork came back two thumbs down, so I’m keeping my PICC line until the 29th. Not a huge deal in the scope of things, but very un-awesome in the moment.
I am treating myself to a new Chanel lipstick though, with the justification that Chanel and Ulta makes me less sad.
It's been such an long, exhausting week. My ability to focus is not good today. I am reviewing a coworker's code and it's written in a very different way than I'm used to, which isn't helping. I truly don't know if it's "good different", "bad different" or just "different".
Tomorrow I'm going out with friends to celebrate a birthday/retirement. We've got a limo and reservations at a restaurant with a great reputation. It should be a good night!
emilyinchile, wishing you a beautiful wedding weekend!
I need to file our taxes. I hate that I've delayed until the last minute. I also need to file my daughter's and mom's. ugh!
DD is getting a D in Spanish (sophomore) and I'm concerned. She was able to get her grade in Chemistry up from a C to a B, but this D is surprising. Maybe I'm overreacting, I don't know.
I started my garden seeds indoors last week and most of them are sprouting which I'm very excited about. The only ones that aren't are my petunias which is new to me this year. I hope they sprout. My goal this year is to not have to buy any flowers or veggies from a nursery. (But who am I kidding?! I can't ignore flower shopping. )
Also, I just read the Golden Bachelor and Teresa are getting a divorce. LOLZ.
Our backyard fence has a gate leading out to an elementary school playground. We did that so our daughter, when she attended that school, could cut through the backyard and straight to school, plus it gave us easy access to the park, etc. Anyway, the fence gate has moved due to the condition of our property line so there's a gap which now doesn't allow the latch to connect, so we've closed it with rope. We have dogs so obviously we don't want them to escape. The fence ends before our property line ends and the end of ou property line is filled with trees and overgrown grape vines. It's pretty gnarly right now and we need to clean it up because the school kids like to explore in that area, basically trespassing. I normally don't mind, but I discovered our gate was open this week. I thought that maybe the rope was too thin and broke off, so I used a bungee cord yesterday morning. Well, the gate was open last night, and the bungee cord is gone. So now we have it locked with a chain and lock. But I need to email the school now letting them know of the situation and politely remind them not to have the kids trespass.
It rained here all day yesterday and it's still raining. We don't have dangerous flooding others are experiencing thankfully but there really is water everywhere. We don't typically have issues with water in our basement but it just occurred to me that I probably should have gone down and at least checked this morning before leaving because H is out of town and he's usually the one that will think to look at that kind of stuff. There are worms everywhere, someone local posted a picture of one that was HUGE, like almost looked like a snake - it was so weird!
We have a busy weekend ahead and I'm tired already. Kid has volleyball games and dance recital run through tomorrow and thankfully they don't overlap but we only have an hour in between the 2 things so it's a good thing she doesn't have to costume and have hair up for dance because then the time would be too tight. But it's not too often that her activities fall like this so we'll make it work.

Good thing you noticed! I did this on our trip last November and noticed the night before, lol. I was able to change for a fee but that was almost a disaster.

One time I booked a one-way return ticket the wrong way lol I did realize a few weeks before, but by then the flights that day going the right way were sold out so I had to book the return for the following day.
I woke up with my right eye slightly bloodshot again. Last time it happened, it was pretty much all the way better by mid-morning the next day. Fingers crossed it’s the same this time, but I’m going to pick up some Visine just in case. I don’t know what caused it either time.

I killed one from overwatering, too. I have a new one that is doing fine so far but I'm not convinced I won't somehow mess it up too lol! Good job on bringing this one back!
Congratulations, emilyinchile! I hope it’s a wonderful day.
Our local comedy club has a competition every year and this year about 100 comics submitted. Over two separate nights, about 50 comics had three minutes to perform and results are based 40% audience vote and 60% professional judges’ vote. I went up the second night and was comic #47 of 49. Woof.
Anyway: I made the top 25! Next week the top 25 also get 3 minutes and the list will get pared down to 12 and then to the final five. Performing time will increase as the list is reduced. I don’t expect to advance beyond this point but surviving the biggest cut has been my goal, so I’m very happy with this.
