We’ve been haggling back and forth all week about a townhouse and I just got word that they accepted our final offer. I’m so happy and relieved! It will close before I’ll have to move out of this house, so I don’t have to worry about where to live in between. Fingers crossed the inspection goes well.
Congrats! So happy for you. I hope everything goes well with inspection and closing. Will you be able to take all the pets too?
We flew home last night and the turbulence was so so bad approaching Boston that I 1000% thought we were all going to die in a plane crash. I am not a nervous flyer at all, but i have never experienced anything like it. I’m pretty sure my anxious DD is traumatized for life and we’ll have to drug her for our next flights in July. People were screaming and the flight crew was radio silent, which freaked everyone out. Good thing I already have DD’s first therapy appt scheduled!
We had this once coming into Chicago probably weather related since it was in between storms. We got caught in a downdraft and dropped a lot probably 50 or more feet and the plane was dipping and rocking side to side as they were trying to right it after the downdraft. Very scary!
It was basically this over and over and over. So scary!!

Yes I can take the pets! One of the cats is going to live with STBX. He’s the grumpy one I have to keep separated from the dogs at all times. He’ll be much happier as an only pet and cats are low maintenance enough that even STBX can handle it, and DD will have a pet at his place too.
I also feel like this song has been played so much out in the world - like grocery store music, radio music, etc. I have probably never listened to a Prince album but I can't fathom anyone in our age cohort not having any familiarity! Maybe listen to the song and report back?
Saying a song is the type to be played in stores is an argument that it's terrible, IMO. "Retail rock" is generally not very good.
Huh? Is retail rock even a thing? That’s a weird take.
They play lots of music in retail stores. I have heard Journey, Stevie Nicks, Prince, for example. ETA: I have heard Taylor Swift and Beyonce played at the grocery store. She basically saying the song is popular enough to be played everywhere.
I'm just catching up. Anyone who lived through Y2K has to remember the song "1999" being played everywhere - that was Prince. I listened to a lot of soft rock in my 20s and "Raspberry Beret" came on often enough so I know that one too. It is definitely a "supermarket song" now.

My daughter’s birthday party was yesterday, it was so easy! I took her and her friends to an outdoor shopping center, they shopped, I walked around and had a glass of wine. Came back to our house for pizza and a sleepover. All the girls were gone by 10:30am. I’m happy to do this every year, if she wants!!
I do feel bad, she woke me up to make them breakfast and I must have fallen back to sleep. I made them breakfast in the dream I was having 😂
We have friends who are regularly out until after 9 on weeknights and from 7 am - 11 pm on weekends for kids sports. Part of the family's reasoning for this level of competition was so their kid could make the MS/HS athletic teams. It's so keeping up with the Joneses and I hope that there's also room on MS/HS teams for kids who haven't competed previously on the travel team level.
Honestly it’s like the video that was circulating where a mom was complaining because her preshus on travel ball didn’t get to play. And that’s because they just want your money. Teams only have so many spots in school and talent can’t be bought. I think some people think travel teams will make their kid better, but there’s only so much skill before capability.
I also wonder how many kids are burntout on sports before they event hit high school. When I finished college, I spent a year coaching a pricey HS sport, but I don't think we were too intense compared with other high school sports (although we had about 4 competitions/seasons, most out of state).
I constantly think of the girl who was an amazing athlete and wanted to shift from travel hockey to our (other sport) team. She was so done with hockey, but her parents had invested so much money and were convinced it was her ticket to scholarships/college. She was facing her second surgery due to serious injury and...like, how do you push your kid like that?

I just had a panic attack reading this. I would never get on a plane again.

This is the top reason we facilitate DD playing 2 sports. While hockey is her passion, she also really enjoys soccer. Sometimes she misses practice for one sport because of the other and we’re ok with that because we don’t want her burnt out by the time she gets to middle school, not to mention injured from only moving her body one way all the time. She also enjoys the friendships she has gained through different teams. We’d never prevent her from stopping anything altogether if someday she doesn’t want to do it anymore. Her enjoyment of it is the top priority.
Oh and the pool is open, but I guess we didn’t get everything DH had coordinated. So they have to come back and one piece is extra. I don’t get it, but I refuse to add the pool to my mental space.

My brothers coaches high school cross country and track. The soccer coach lets him give a talk before soccer cuts and it's usually about how if you don't make soccer, you are trained for XC and come on over, everyone competes (though not everyone is on varsity) and no cuts but he has also mentioned that he has gotten multiple runners over the years who have talked about how they are/were totally burnt out on soccer and it is fun to enjoy a sport again. He even had one kid (turned into a real good runner) who admitted he told his parents that he didn't want to try out for high school soccer but got a "we didn't pay for all those years of travel soccer for you to give up" so he said he didn't play his best at tryouts so that it was the coach's fault that he didn't make the team. It's sad.
No, it’s a TikTok thing I think. Someone heard the phrases male and female gaze and ran with it.
It's a fairly old concept, no? Maybe tiktok popularized it, but I have heard this phrase for at least a decade+.
I don’t know why it’s popular now but it was theory from the early 1970s. I think it comes and goes because it was also talked about a lot when I was in high school. Maybe we are on a thirty year cycle.

We have friend’s whose son came into high school burnt out on basketball so he tried out for track. He ended up becoming a stellar runner and got a very sizable college scholarship for it. I don’t know if DD has the genes to be a great long distance runner, she’s more like me with being capable of strong but short bursts. But if she picked up running I wouldn’t be mad at all.
Well, I wore my raspberry lamé in a tournament today. It did not help me, but one of my team mates came in first! That was exciting!
But, I really pushed myself, and was totally out of steam. And then, afterward, as I was cooling off, I started with a bit of coughing. The kind of coughing that reminded of post anesthesia, and they ask you to inhale deeply and you cough. I actually already have a dr appointment tomorrow (at an in-hospital clinic with a specialist), and I feel fine. So, I’m guessing I touch of exercise induced asthma. I promise it will be checked out tomorrow. I had already planned to discuss the fact that I feel like I’ve hit a ceiling with my cardio improvement over the past year, so this is a new data point.
Just bruised and sprained (stubbed). The pain is not as bad, but still the same. If that even makes sense. It’s throbbing and pulsating. I suspect that’s more from the cut and missing nail.

I knew I was truly an adult when I heard the music I use to pregame to being played at the grocery store.
I also use to work at a grocery store and heard Marvin Gayes "let's get it on" a handful of times which I always thought was an interesting choice. But the music selection was above my pay grade.

That's so gross. I don't understand parents who take their kids' sports so seriously. If one of my friends didn't do well in track meets, when she got home, her dad would drive her to the track to do wind sprints. Even in high school, I knew that was very deeply fucked up.
"I'm too young to know a Prince song" is making me irrationally angry.
not too young. I know who he was, an familiar with a few songs for sure, but it wasn't really the style of music I'd seek out and listen to over and over.
And, no, it's not because I preferred boy bands. They're the worst!
We had a nice weekend! Friday, we got Greek food from a food truck down the street from our house and just stayed in. Saturday, DH had virtual orientation for a doctoral program he is going to be starting for most of the day. I got the tree trimmed that my neighbor wanted me to since it was hanging over her yard, and I will reluctantly admit it looks a lot better, lol. DS and I went to a food truck fundraiser at his school for lunch. I had some delicious pierogies. Saturday night, H and I dropped DS at my inlaws, and we went to a murder mystery party at one of my high school friend's houses. The theme was Roman Empire and it was full of togas and drinks and hilarity. We slept at my parents house then since they were out of town and it was closer. Slept in late, then went out for breakfast before getting DS. We just spent the rest of the day getting things done around the house. I went for a long walk and picked up groceries, did laundry, usual Sunday stuff. I made lasagna soup for dinner which was nice on this chilly day. Not quite ready for another busy week ahead.

I'm so glad that I played sport during a time when it wasn't so crazy. And was able to go into D1 field hockey w/o being burnt out (being in D1 hockey did burn me out, though).
