Not campaigning. The hell? And my H agrees with him.
I pointed out it'd probably be more helpful for Guliani to be in NY (rater than campaigning for Romney in Ohio) assisting Bloomberg since, you know, he was the last mayor there and dealt with the last major disaster. So he might be able to get a few more things actually done than Obama could.
Other than directing federal resource and doing some hand holding what exactly can he do on the ground in NY/NJ now?
Do you think it's too soon for O to resume campaigning?
First of all, Bloomberg told Obama not to come yet. Second Guiliani is just being a moron about this. It takes away a lot of time and resources when the President goes to visit a disaster site, and he can do far more good by staying away unless specifically invited. I would imagine that he will visit NY sometime next week or the week after when things have calmed down a lot more and his presence won't be such a huge distraction from the relief efforts.

This was my point to H. I was all "remember when we lived there and it was an f'ing nightmare when the UN was in town and the Prez would visit? Remember when you had to walk downtown to/from work after 9/11? Now combine those and think of the hassle and distraction". He's still jot agreeing with me and his stupidity is posing me off further.
I think it is highly possible that Rudy is losing his ever loving marbles. Using this tragedy to shame anyone is disgraceful, using this tragedy to try and gain last minute votes by shaming the President even more disgraceful. Just gross.

I'll take the flip side and say that now that it's been a couple of days, I'm surprised Mittens hasn't shown up. I'm getting a big "fuck'em. They're blue states." vibe.
Take that for what it's worth as I'be previously posted that I haven't seen a news show in a week. I've been listening to storm coverage and NPR.

There is absolutely no reason for him to be there. At all. And I would imagine that NJ & NY in particular would refuse a visit by him. Thy have shit to do, they can't spend time babysitting him for a completely pointless visit.

Except that there are tens of millions of people he wants to lead for the next 4 years.
He can stop in the area when things have calmed down. There is no job for him to do, and his presence there would be a huge distraction and resource drain from the work that needs to get done.

I'm not expecting him to wash clean dishes while he's here or anything. I just think that not showing up at all at this point when it's zero hour for his campaign gives off the "I have more important priorities" thing off.
I can understand where a visit might bouy spirits and make them feel a little less "alone" and that there is real movement and caring from govt side of this.
I don't understand the resources portion of the argument. Yes, it would require some state police but I would think the federal govt could swallow some of this for a brief visit.
That said Rudy is still a dumbass as was hoping to capitalize on this tragedy for his candidate. Still gross.

They discussed this on the morning shows and whether bloomberg was thinking about what the residents may want when he told Obama not to come. That while logistics maybe an issue, people there would like to see their president. At the time i didnt think much about bloomberg's request, but now that i know he was actually thinking about continuing with the marathon, i dont get why he thinks it would be a bigger drag on resources to have the president there. Now it creates a weird situation.

Here is the thing - he can't just show up. A visit like that has to be planned, the right people have to be pulled in, security has to be in place, and work will slow down wherever he goes. I am telling you, it is too soon for him to go to the places that are the worst affected.
I don't even like Romney, but he is doing the absolute right thing by staying away.

While I think Bloomberg was being an idiot by not canceling the marathon right away, there is a big difference between days 1-2 after a disaster and days 4-6. It would have been a nightmare to have the President there so soon, and I am sure he will visit after the election.

The amount of money his campaign has can surely bring in private security.
Before you get preachy understand that I assure you i DO understand what you are saying. What I am saying is that he has run out of time to show he gives a shit. He doesn't have extra time. Shit ends in 3 days. THAT is why I am surprised by it.
Not to mention that air traffic in the area has just resumed, and the controllers have enough to do trying to get his backlog of flights out. It would create an even bigger backlog if they had to start grounding all planes again while the Prez came in.
Let's be honest though, he would do himself a lot more harm by going because it really would jut read as an insincere photo op since he really has no business being there.
And as I said, I am sure that even of he has asked to come to NY or NJ that he has been turned down. Christie was clearly not interested in having him, and if Bloomberg told Obama not to come then he certainly would have refused a visit by Romney.
He has business being there though, that's the thing. Listen, President trumps mayor/governor to make it sound as if this would be impossible to achieve is ludacris. Would it be a temporary distraction from law enforcement resources, yes but making it sound like it would grind all rescue efforts to a hault is a little bit of a stretch.

I said that Romney has no business being there, not Obama. And the President absolutely should defer to the officials on he ground and not just march his way in. It is not like he isn't getting all the information he needs to make decisions. The first days after a disaster are the most chaotic, and if a governor or mayor says they can't handle the extra chaos of a presidential visit, that should be respected.
I am kind of surprised he hasn't done the traditional "hey look at all the water" presidential helicopter fly-over (unless I just missed it).
However, all I can say is that if it were Cleveland or Cincinnati that had been devastated, both Obama and Mittens would have been out there filling sandbags and washing dishes since day one, no matter what the mayor said.
