I've long thought eddy has some fabulous parenting ideas.
The other day MH asked me when the elf was coming out because both kids had been behaving like epic assholes. I don't know that it works that well, but it can't hurt.
It is suppose to be a fun thing that they look forward to every morning. I don't do many cheesy holiday things so this seemed like something I could manage. The added bonus, is that it is an elf who keeps an eye on the kids and reports back to Santa.
And hell yes I use anything I can to keep my kid in line even if it is a tool that only works for 30 days of the year.
What is the point of Santa if I can't threaten my child that Santa is watching him during the month of December?
Are they supposed to look for it each day?
Yes the elf "hides" somewhere new each day. So the kid gets up and is excited to go find the elf. Or at least this is how I am having a vision of it all going down rather than the usual Grumple Stilkskin emerging from his room demanding waffles.
Yes - the idea is that when the kids go to bed, the elf flies up to the north pole to report to Santa how good the kids were that day. And the next morning, he lands in a different place, so the kids look to see where he landed that morning. It's kind of fun, despite the creepiness of the elf.
Red eyes for the black dolls, cookie suddenly has a consumerist impulse, and eclaires' H thinks his kids are assholes. Andplusalso using dolls to terrorize children.
I fucking love this thread.
And yes, I'm just going to keep posting posting random commentary about how much I love this thread since I'm bored.
Scarlett is still in a crib (and usually sleeps until 9) and Jackson is not allowed to leave his room, except to use the bathroom, until 8am. If he leaves his room before 8am (other than the bathroom), Elfin reports this infraction to Santa!!!!!!!!!!!! He's still excited to look for it at 8.
eclaires - can J read a clock? how do you keep him in bed or in his room?
mesh - i told LB last night to go to bed without crying like a big girl and that Santa is watching her. She said, "I DON'T LIKE SANTA! Or his sled! Or his reindeer!"

He has a clock in his room (it's digital) and he's been able to read it for awhile. Since he was around 3.5, which is when he started waking up much too early for my liking. He has some toys/books in his room and he's allowed to play quietly. But if he gets up and comes into our room before 8, he loses a privilege for the day. It didn't take long for him to get it, though.
He usually wakes up around 7-7:30. We got really harsh with it right around the time Scarlett was born because once she was in her room, he was waking her up (after she had just gone back down sometimes) by being loud and generally obnoxious. Now he's in the habit of it.
I think there are clocks where they change colors when the kid can get up (from red to green, I think).
