Oh come on, someone's punking me right. $369 is the cost of entry to Disneyland/California Adventure for a family of 3. Disney is killing dreams (financial) not makin them.
Yes, extrememly expensive. I've considered buying a pass now that doesn't expire since likely costs will continue to go up. But I guess there is a chance that it's going to reach a tipping point somewhere and I would have wasted the money.
it's gone up by ridiculous amounts in the last five or so years. it's fucking $89 for a one day, one park pass now - and adult passes start at age 10. the kid passes are only like $10 cheaper anyway.

It's significantly cheaper per day if you buy a multi-day pass. You can buy ones that never expire if you know you'll be back. Of course, this doesn't help if you only want a 1-day ticket and you don't plan on ever going back.
We went to DW 2weeks (only in park 5 days) last year & it was the most expensive vacation we've ever had (including our honeymoon)--hotel, air, food, park passes for 5= many thousands of $$. We did DL for 3 days this summer...5 people again plus food & lodging. Still pricey but not as bad (we drove & shorter). We won't be going back for 3-4 yrs when DD4 is 3ish.
these prices make me want to cry. I would love to do a family trip to Disney. How did you get free passes? You always have the best connections, Auberge.
Holy cow, no wonder we skipped it when we went to FL. I have no clue how my parents afforded it when I was a kid.
They probably afforded it because the first time I went to Disney when I was in elementary school it was like $23. I know when I was in HS I paid something like $65.

Need to look this up, I went in 97- when I was in high school.
Found a site that has a chart, makes sense how they could back then, but still its still an expensive trip even for those days, add in meals, hotel, flights.
I have a number of friends who have all gone in the past few months. One talked about the ticket prices. Even doing a multi day pass - for 7 days for 3 of them was over $1000.
We're not going to Disney anytime soon.
The one time I was supposed to go as a kid (so, we're talking 30 years ago... yikes) - our car brokedown on the way down to FL and all my parents fun money went into getting it fixed. So we had to do SeaWorld instead.
Huh. This thread made me look up the military discount for Disney. I knew it existed, but have never bothered to check what it is. $156 for a four-day park hopper pass. Damn. If we ever have kids, I know how we'll be paying for it. They have to be pre-purchased, and they limit how many you can get. They also black-out Christmas thru New Years, and Spring Break.
We went this summer. 4 adults (me, DH, MIL, teenager), 1 kid, 1 under 3 kid (free). 7 days staying at WDW, with 7 days of park hopper passes, and including 2 meals and a snack a day, but not including transportation - $5k. Additional costs were about $500 for driving expenses/hotels on the way there and less than $100 at the grocery store for breakfast food and extra snack stuff (we had a kitchen at WDW, stayed in the ft wilderness cabins).
To me, that's an expensive vacation, and a big vacation that we'd never do yearly, but not insane considering that there were 4 adults and 2 kids.
Oh, and when I was trying to decide if we should get 6 days of park tickets or 7, removing one day of tickets for all of us reduced the price by $84. So yeah, the price of extra days of tickets drops WAY down.

this is why i like buying a disney vacation package- so i don't think about what a ticket costs per day, etc.... it's just a lump sum of like $5K, and we know it's all taken care of (meal plan, hotel, transportation, tickets, etc).
A family friend who is from the Orlando area mentioned that they have to keep prices up a bit - for crowd control... which makes a lot of sense - b/c if they were cheap and easy to pay for - they'd have too many people there each day.... it's already too crowded much of the year- so I'm not going to complain about the cost of tickets if it does help keep the crowds down "a little".
We lucked out getting passes for our August Disneyland trip before they raised rates. I was thrilled, plus they got rid of the 6 day option we bought ($30 more a ticket than a 4 day at the time).

We're going on our fourth Disney trip next week. We've always been fortunate enough to be able to do it by the cheaply. Our first trip happened when my husband was sent to Orlando for a week for training. The hotel and his airfare were paid for by the company, and we used miles for my ticket. We snagged a 5 day military parkhopper ticket for me for $99. The little person was free. That was the year Disney was giving away a free day for birthdays, so my husband was able to join us one day on his birthday for free.
The second trip happened when his company decided to hold their annual Christmas party in Orlando. They paid for our airfare and two nights at Loews by Universal. We added on a few days and used Starwood points to stay at the Swan at WDW for free. Military tickets were $125 for a 4 day parkhopper.
We went to Disneyland in Sept. My inlaws live in Vegas, so we drove from there. $99 for a 3 day hopper. We used our Marriott points to stay nearby.
His company party is at Downtown Disney this year, and our airfare and two nights in a hotel are paid for. He was honorably discharged last month and we no longer qualify for the military tickets, but we still manage to snag good deals. With food, tickets, and hotel, its averaging out to be $100 per person per day. We're okay with that price.

The one time I went to WDW I went woth a friend who worked for ESPN (owned by Disney) so we had free park hopper passes and half off of our hotel. It was awesome.
