I think that it is important that people realize that those on food stamps don't have it easy. I'm sure it will open dialogue temporarily and also piss people off. I'm doubtful it will bring any real change though.

I agree with this, pretty much word for word. It's sad though that in a few weeks it will be forgotten.
ETA: I would fully support a Clinton/Booker ticket. How can we make this happen?

You only get $30/week there? Is that the full amount? I think this is where people have differing opinions on what living on food stamps is like. I know a family of three that gets $600/month. That is twice my monthly food budget.

That is the average for a single person in his area, yes.
I love Corey Booker. I'd be shocked if he doesn't wind up as NJ governor and maybe President/VP or a Cabinet member someday.
He's been known to respond to Twitter requests to help Newark residents shovel snow, and he was hosting and feeding people in his house during the hurricane when a lot of residents were without power. And his "feud" with Conan O'Brien a few years ago was hilarious.
My brother's private high school did something similar every year, I'm trying to remember how it worked. It might've been a weekend retreat type trip? They went to Camden and I think did some volunteer work, and shopped and ate on a food stamp budget. It was pretty eye opening for the kids.
I spend about $30-50/week myself. I think it's great he is doing it and bringing awareness. But I wish someone who supported a family, or at least a child would do it.
I have conflicted and mixed views about this.
ETA - I don't see this as much as a struggle for a single person as it would be for someone having to feed an additional person(s).

That's INCREDIBLE. It was $20 a week for a single person in 1982 (my rent was $140 a month)! Thirty years later, it has only risen by $10? :-|

My MIL lives by herself and is disabled. She receives $603/mo in cash from SSI and just over $100 a month in food stamps. $30/week sounds just about right.
