Some idiot on my FB said that this was all planned by the Clintons and that they have NBC in their back pocket. Yeah. The Clinton's put a wire tap in the Access Hollywood trailer back in 2005 just in case they needed it in the future. Fuck you, dude.
Now that's a long con.
Clearly the Clintons and Trump hatched this plan at his wedding. They knew HRC probably wouldn't win in 2008 and needed a plan to make sure she got it in 2016.
So Trump says I'll switch to the GOP and really muck things up. Don't worry. If it gets to be a close race, I'll start insulting minorities and women. Maybe a war hero and a disabled guy. I'll make some babies cry too. Oh and just to be sure I'll have Billy Bush tape me making really lewd comments about women. We'll whip that out as an October Surprise if needed.
Be prepared to see some version of this on the interwebs in 3, 2, 1...
I mean I don't expect much more than this but we're not just "your wives and daughters". Full humans. Women. Is what we are.
So I saw a retweet of this and replied saying pretty much what you wrote. I shouldn't have been shocked, but I was, when some Trumpster used it as an example of how polarized we are that Romney's tweet is seen as patronizing instead a denouncement.
Uhm, yeah ass. Don't be demeaning. It should be PR 101. And it's freaking twitter. It took more characters to classify women as wives and daughters than to leave it as just "women".
I can't figure out if it's worthy of a response or just to let it go. I don't let go easily.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Is it possible at this point for someone else like Ryan or Pence to run and win? If so, no, keep Donnie on the ticket. I want them, and all his backers, to go down in flames.
No. it's too late for anyone else.
So yeah, this isn't the greatest source but see Section 3.
"Suppose Trump quits in October. It’s too late to modify the ballots, but the RNC hastily meets on Skype and puts Paul Ryan’s name in the hat. It’s all over the news, and in some states, there could even be notices at polling stations: “Voting for Trump actually means voting for Ryan.” But still, those voters are pulling the lever by Trump’s name. What happens now?
The question, Persily explains, is whether state electors are pledged to the individual candidate, or to the party that nominated him or her.
“Would Donald Trump’s electors be able to vote for someone else in the Electoral College? Most states say yes—you vote for whoever the party has nominated.”
Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, South Carolina, Vermont, and Wyoming go by candidate. Here’s Maine, for example: “The presidential electors at large shall cast their ballots for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates who received the largest number of votes in the State.”
So in those states, if Trump says he’s running, and his name is on the ballot, those electors have to vote for Trump. Conceivably, if Trump withdraws of his own accord, courts might rule that Trump wasn’t really the “candidate” anymore, even though he was the name on the ballot. But that isn’t entirely certain.
More states, though, go by party, including Alaska, California, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, as well as the District of Columbia. Hawaii’s statute, for example, says that “The electors, when convened, if both candidates are alive, shall vote by ballot for that person for president and that person for vice president of the United States, who are, respectively, the candidates of the political party or group which they represent.”
In those states, the state GOP could well say “As duly confirmed at the RNC meeting, Donald Trump is not the nominee of the Republican Party. Electors must vote for the actual nominee, Paul Ryan.”
In sum, right up until Nov. 7, the Republican Party could dump Trump by declaring him unfit for office, reconvening, and nominating someone else. But it would get messier depending on how long they wait. If Trump withdraws, there’s really no problem, legally speaking, even at the last minute. While his name would be on the ballot, electors would vote for the party’s actual nominee, or courts would declare Trump no longer the “candidate.”
I will google more later but I have to step away from the computer now.
I believe it is real. A friend who was an editor with TDN posted it to FB.
ETA Disclaimer: TDN often preps a few front pages and tends to go with the most recent/salacious by press time. So this may be the front page now but won't be on the stands tomorrow morning. Or may be on issues outside NY Metro but won't be on the Metro editions. Same with the Post which my H used to get in DE for sports when we left NYC.
Dana Bash has been talking to sources inside Trump Tower.
Trump is expected to make a statement tonight. No word on how.
Saturday appearance with Priebus, Johnson, Walker, Ryan up in the air.
Sources saying they believe this is the death of the Trump campaign.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Is it possible at this point for someone else like Ryan or Pence to run and win? If so, no, keep Donnie on the ticket. I want them, and all his backers, to go down in flames.
I hadn't listened to the audio until just now. I'd gone off the WP story. The non-word sounds that Billy Bush makes are so gross. He's toast. Or he'd better be toast.
Pssst. HRC tell your peeps to start using Facebook messenger or Whats App. With the encryption feature on. Come on now. I mean I realize these were old emails but you need to either go old school - no emails at all - or you need to amp up your technology. Get some former NSA guy to help you. Or maybe Trump's son. I hear he's good with the cyber.
NBC is so f'd if they still think they count as journalists after this election. The catering to Trump, the Matt Lauer fiasco and now you've got a contributor who had this conversation with Trump and yet we're just finding out about it now.
I bet the real journalists at NBC are prepping their resumes as quickly as possible.
I scheduled a blood pressure check with my doctor the day after the election. At first she offered the day before and Election day. I was like "Dr. I'm sorry but you'll end up hospitalizing me if you read my bp on either of those days." Of course, I will either be hung over or still drinking the day after depending on the outcome. Thank god we have Uber now.
“That’s an issue with this country,” said the lineman, who said he planned to vote for Trump. “We can’t have conversations anymore. We are too sensitive. It’s OK to disagree about things.”
I know this is already covered - and I said this yesterday in another post - but the too sensitive crap just makes me want to Hulk out.
I also did not realize that racist shitpig Richie Incognito was still in the NFL. Skimmed that piece on him and it was a whole lot of "I have black friends". Uh huh.
This is word of mouth information, but H read an article saying the support for Trump in Erie, PA was unprecedented. How unanimous it is throughout the city. I can't remember how exactly he worded it, but it gave me the distinct impressive Erie loves Trump.
So maybe it is because he's confident in those areas?
IDK about the other states but Wilkes-Barre and Erie are a lock for Trump. Granted you have to get your people to the polls regardless of how favorable they're polling so pulling ads in FL and OH seems odd to me. Not that it matters in PA since that is looking pretty good for HRC. I can see not spending the money there.
ETA: I've been thinking about his campaign funds and if, with all the talk about him stiffing creditors and suppliers, the media buyers would insist on money up front. IDK how that works but I wonder if him simply not being able to pay the bills and them not extending credit is a factor.
For whatever reason the USC Dornsife/LA Times poll has a strong Trump house effect. They do a daily tracker national poll that has had Trump in the lead since Sept 12th. Even today their latest has Trump at +3. But 538 accounts of the house effect in their 538 magic and they adjusted that to a +2 for Clinton today.
They basically said that the boom of manufacturing in the post war years was a black swan event and yet it's being held onto as the standard to which we must pay homage and strive to achieve again. Frustratingly false.
litebright, I think the take away from the 92 campaign was all about how to present the spouse. I don't remember this being an issue in 96 with Elizabeth Dole or in 08 with MO. A bit with MO but that was probably more racial then gendered. With MO I remember reading about her career and thinking "My god, she's giving up all of this - and all her future aspirations - for him."
The level of hate directed at HRC in 1991/92 was unreal. She alone was responsible for Bill's infidelities. She wore headbands! She didn't want to submit a cookie recipe. She was a - gasp - bottle blonde! It was insanity.
In many ways I'm sure she's glad the internet wasn't around to the extent it is now back then. That was my first election as a voter and I was all for Clinton/Gore but even I felt off about HRC. 24 years later and I have a lot of sympathy for the HRC of 1992.
And I ditto that boomers should have to read this article. My dad had some crazy notions about what women should and shouldn't do back then. Now his three daughters have been in the workforce for the past 20 years and are raising family and his feelings have changed or muted. It would do him well to reexamine his feelings for HRC through that new perspective.
Ah. Yes. A variation on the "I'm just joking. Why can't you take a joke?" defense. Classic.
This and "Don't be so sensitive." Rage. No, YOU stop being an asshole. Another one in the same category - "Don't you have a sense of humor?" Again, no, not to dickish, racist, whatever other -ist comment you just made, no I don't.
Ooof! Trump + Walker? WTF Paul Ryan? I realize this is your home district and you're safe but come on. You know the Dems are putting together a database on everyone who stood by / supported Trump. Why add any more ammo to the file?
I think I'm ordering lunch today. I shouldn't but yeah.
A "friend" is stopping by to drop off R+F samples that will probably make my face swell up and the front of my house is a weed-filled mess. So I scheduled myself an hour lunch to weed my front yard. It needs to be done and I have to get my fall stuff out but I'm all ^o) *-) about the combination of MLM and weeding.
