OMG. I think you need to send a letter (or rather have your attorney do it) to the couple and let them know that YOU are the owner of the house and that they owe you $X per month, payable directly to you. Otherwise, you will have no choice but to have them legally evicted (which is exactly what you'd have to do). Basically, you'd be serving them with a pay or quit notice. This could actually work out for you in the short term- SOMEONE could be helping pay for the house!
Holy god. I don't know the story, but it sounds like he's not doing this out of the goodness of his heart (and even then it would be inappropriate) but more likely to (a) collect rent and (b) screw you? And now it's on you to evict a family friend with 3 little kids right before Christmas. How nice of him.
This is it for me. He's trying to make you out to be an ass.

When can you file again (or did you already)?
What sort of legal ramifications does this have when you actually go to finalize the divorce? Will he ever have to pay you back for living in the house rent free?
Where are his parents in all of this. Seriously, how do they walk around showing their faces and shit. Dayum. I would go in hiding if I was responsible for raising that ahole.
