Alright, whose baby still doesn't know how to get in and out of sitting? I'm going to guess my best friends trudy, ruby, kdrake (or kdranze - now I forget) ...sorry if I forgot a few others.
Madison makes no attempt to get into sitting from her belly. From sitting she will sometimes reach for things and almost get onto her belly but one leg will get in the way. Other times she just falls head first. Sometimes gracefully, sometimes not so much.
I need some support, mommas! Tell me she'll get the hang of these things some day. She's almost 9 months.
She's seems quite pissed off that she can't get where she wants but really doesn't seem to make much effort.

You know I'm with you.
Our PT recommends putting toys out of her reach when she's sitting so that she will accidentally fall and then end up on her belly. We try it all the time but she's gotten so good at reaching far things and then sitting back up, haha. We've also been told to put her in a side sitting position where her legs are to the side (hard to explain) which she despises.

Rosalie doesn't quite get there, yet. She sticks both legs straight out in the splits, but her fat rolls get in the way of getting down so she doesn't "push it".

I knew you would be with me.
Madison is also very good at getting a toy and then back up. If she can't reach the toy because it's too far, she either gives up or topples over. So the falling over is good? I try make sure her enviroment is 'safe' so that when she topples, she won't hurt herself.
At Mom's group the other day, all 3 of the babies younger than Madison were crawling. I swear they are starting to look at me with pity in their eyes.

We have hardwoods. I bought a rug from Ikea that we pick up and take down, but it's really thin. And, she finds a way to somehow get to the edge and THEN fall over and slam her noggin on the hardwoods.

Alexis can't get from into the sitting position on her own yet. She rolls to her side and tries to push up or puts her arms up and tries to sit straight up. She doesn't topple over when she is sitting though she can get onto her belly then she rolls wherever she pleases. Once in a while she will through herself backwards on purpose.
Hey lady! You were thinking me! Mila has randomly gotten from laying to sitting 2 times that ive seen but that's it. Normally she just screams for me to sit her up! You are not alone

Yea, according to my PT, the falling over is good because eventually one day they will put their hands out to catch themselves and will end up in the crawling position or on their bellies. I have one of those foam tile mats and it's pretty good- when she hits her head it's never that hard and she doesn't even get very upset.
To encourage sitting from laying down I can't help you because we're still working on getting V to roll over to her belly which I think is the first step.

Sophia is perpetually in this club as well. No on both accounts. She has fallen twice trying to reach a toy....progress?? Still not on all fours, no crawling....sigh. I'm starting to look at myself with pity! She is 9 months today.
He can fall onto his belly, but he doesn't like it so he just reaches as faaaaar as he can, and then sits back up. But he will go onto his belly occasionally. And he can only sit up from being on his back if he's laying on a pillow. And thats only like, 5% of the time he can actually do it.
Um, yeah, definitely not getting herself into sitting position yet! She can go from sitting to belly by ungracefully throwing herself over and face planting. It makes me cringe to watch but she seems to be okay with it. Hopefully she'll figure out some of these next steps soon!

Oh my gosh, the whining is ridiculous! I actually have a pretty funny whining video I took a few weeks ago. Is it wrong to laugh at their whining from time to time?

I'm in your boat, always I think! A doesn't crawl, it took her forever and ever to roll, and she definitely cannot go from laying to sitting. She's never even tried. Sitting to belly sounds like Ruby's V...fall into face plant. She's 9 months and one week. Don't worry, Madison is A OK!! She'll always win the most huggable girl contest hands down, so take that Mommy group!

I will whine back and imitate her and then I realize that might encourage her to continue (and it's not a great thing for a Mom to do) so I'm going to try and stop that.
She now has this throaty, high pitched scream that she is trying to perfect if I am, God forbid, in the kitchen (she can see me) getting a drink.

I'll add you to my list!
Thank you, everyone, for making me feel a little better.
Colin doesn't even try to go from belly to sitting. He's as happy as a clam normally and if not he'll fuss and I sit him up (I mean, if he was TRYING I'd let him try, but he hasn't, so... whatever). He does go from sitting to belly HOWEVER this is not only recent but I'm not even sure if it's on purpose or from him kind of falling over and catching himself.
I know this doesn't go for everyone, but I know you and I have some chunkier babies and from talking to C's pedi who has reassured me time and time again, chunkier babies tend to be late bloomers. I remind myself of this daily because I've been reminded that my nephew was "walking already" and COLIN IS NOT EVEN CRAWLING at 9.5 months (okay, he can kind of crawl--but it's pathetic. He can crawl backwards, he can army crawl and scoot forward, and he bounces and TRIES SO HARD to crawl but hasn't even come close.)
Add me to your list too. I always seem to miss these posts, but we're right there with you. C finally rolled Christmas week- no joke. She's doing really well with sitting to belly, but then she's stuck and MAD. No worries, mama- they're just taking their time!
