I had really good sex with a guy from Lebanon once, ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE, lol.
I had a very nice experience with a Brazilian man. Lordy, Lord was he hot and had a very sexy accent.
I don't see the big deal about Sue Sue's h ordering for especially when she said she grew up seeing this, so to her, it's totally normal. and since no one gets hurt, what's the harm?

I think using the term Oriental is not acceptable in any case with the one possible exception being rugs. It has historically been used by Westerners as a way to "other" people from the Middle East and other parts of Asia.
But to some extent, like the differentiation between sex and gender, this is very much an academic thing.

My Chinese MIL refers to herself as Oriental, as well as her friends and pretty much everything associated with her culture. We've tried explaining it to her. She says she's too old to change her ways.
Now I want egg rolls and ramekins of soy sauce to dip them in.
I still wonder why Oriental is acceptable when referring to rugs.
I do too. I should have asked in the seminar I did in grad school where all we did was discuss Orientalism. I paid thousands of dollars for that class and I still have no clue about the rugs

So, we needed 300 some-odd posts to address whether or not Sue is a racist or a doddering old lady, whether it is acceptable to have a ramekin, and whether TOTS' valid points get lost in her snatchery. Wow, I'm missing so much during the day...
I think what bugs many of you the most about Sue is that she is usually right. You don't want her answers to be right.
I assume when I'm scratching my head over someone's divorce over here that there has to be tons more than "i'm just not happy" that they don't feel like posting here.
But a Jew rug wouldn't be okay. And my Hispanic friends probably wouldn't like my wetback rug, even if it's just an object.
Um, Jew isn't a racial slur. Oriental isn't necessarily either, it is mostly just over-general, outdated, colonialist, and generally the wrong word to use 99.9% of the time. Your examples don't make sense.
This isn't really an opinion, but here goes anyway. I think SueSue does give some good advice. She is clearly a strong, confident woman. But I am wondering how she is going to react in a few years when her sons bring home girls exactly like that whose ideas might clash with hers. Like maybe they want to plop the Heinz bottle right on the table or something.
Scotty, I took Black Psychology in college, my professor was African. She said she is not "African-American" and that the majority of this group are not American so she used the term Black instead ::shrug::
If TOTS came over to my house, cleaned my bathrooms, gave me an amazing mani-pedi, and then made me a pitcher of sangria while Joseph Gordon-Levit rocked my body at her behest, I might like her a little better, but I'd still think she was a rotten bitchface because she goes after kids to get at people. Also, she's a coward for the handful of times she's DD'd after negative comments.
Never have I ever deleted. You have me confused with someone else. Not once.
Ok, Veggie is ridiculous, but all the wide-eyed questioning of how someone could possibly be so racist/ill-informed/ignorant/whatever is a bit precious. We know these things happen.

This is the first time I have ever heard someone say that Jew is up there with wetback.
Yeah, the racists I've encountered are remarkably better informed regarding levels of offensiveness.
Or, rather, terms that are not at all offensive. LOL.
